One of the 3 signature signs of a psychopath; bed wetting, fire starting, and animal abuse. The 3 sign theory is no longer considered to be legitimate, but abusing animals as a child is still acknowledged as a key symptom.

Agree!! The first sign of someone with mental issues that may become a killer is animal abuse or killing them. It usually stems from a traumatic experience in their childhood. Most serial killers are misogynistic, narcissistic and have no empathy. Very sad case!!

Sad about the poor victim's few remains not finding rest until 2015. Reminds me of Colin Clive, the actor who played Dr. Frankenstein in the 1930s films, who died in 1937 and yet his widow and family did not bother to attend his service, and his cremated remains sat unclaimed in the basement of a funeral parlor until 1978, when an employee found them and scattered them at sea.

I know about that animal-abuse anecdote, but it is so hard to say! For so many years, farmers castrated livestock before anesthesia was discovered. But that was necessary. We all by products tested on animals. Are those lab workers torturers? No, it's their job. But then, I have heard of fishermen who purposely kill turtles, who eat their bait. (Woe betide a turtle killer!) Tons of boys in the South gig frogs (many people eat frog legs, but probably most of those boys are doing it for fun.) They don't all grow up to be serial killers. So I would guess ''animal torture'' should be defined in the case of psychoanalysis of criminal development as ''torture of cats and dogs," which have always been considered beloved family members, in a class of their own.

I ESPECIALLY appreciate it when a presenter takes care with pronunciations. Praying KZfaq changes it’s mind. It’s obvious you spend significant time on research. Their vague, undocumented communications are maddening. You don’t know what you are accused of so you can respond and don’t know what you’re supposed to correct. The public has nothing to base their own decisions on.

We (humanity) always follow stereotypical paths. Some ridiculous and some not. But there is one that truly deserve that logical response once it has come to light. I speak of. When young children show signs of unspeakable cruelty to animals. It is definitely a "red flag" that needs to be addressed immediately.

This channel has rapidly zoomed straight up to the top of my "ultimate shelter in place binge-watch favorites" list! Thank you so much, Mr. Case, for helping to keep me sane! I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but I've discovered that during this truly unprecedented time of immense uncertainty, pervasive fear and very real danger to the people I love the most...there's something inexplicably-yet-definitively soothing and comforting about watching true-crime stories from the distant past and/or which have been conclusively solved. Maybe it's the combination of certainty and the lack of any personal control of the outcome, plus the quality of slight unreality that invariably accompanies stories from the past? Or the sense it gives me that, although the wheels of justice all too often grind exceedingly and excruciatingly slowly...justice of one sort or another does seem to be the eventual result, at least in many cases? Regardless of the reason or reasons, this channel has been a great (if admittedly rather counterintuitive) salve for my anxiety of late. Thank you so much! Sending wishes from across the pond that you're able to stay safe, sane and healthy yourself!

Wow, a story from my own country! You did well with the tricky pronunciations, good for you. I bet my grandmother would have known all about this case as she was an avid newspaper follower of such things. It's new to me however and I'll share it with friends+ family. As usual, a great job😊❤

Thanks Mia, I know a New Zealander who lives here in the UK so he sent me Voice Tags but some names were so difficult for me I left them out, but I just had to try and say Koiwi Tangata as the name sounds so great :)

I wonder what might have triggered William to kill Elsie? And poor Samuel Lakey...Not having a proper burial next to Cristobel after he was found...But at least he helped teach those studying forensic science.

The amazing thing is that the Lakeys stood their ground over a fairly trivial issue although they expected to be murdered for doing so. They were just absolutely determined not to be his friend and to refuse to do him any favors unless required by law.
