I don't think that Marguerite knew what she was getting herself into when she decided to marry the wealthy Egyptian. She probably expected to be fawned over, pampered, having everyone around her to be at her beck and call, and she soon found out that this was not the case. Both were temperamental, but it seems that the disagreements between the pair were related to cultural differences, and Marguerite wasn't one to be putting up with it so wanted out of the marriage. That stuff about not knowing what she was doing when the gun went off was a bunch of baloney. Marguerite was a sophisticated and worldy woman so of course she knew exactly what she was doing when that gun went off. I wonder if it was a misconception about her husband having homosexual feelings for another male or if that was actually real. Considering the time period, the circumstances, her sex, her beauty, and the fact that Marguerite had procured the best legal defense money could buy, it was understandable and only natural that she would receive an acquittal whether it be cold-blooded murder or not. The only other thing that caught my notice was the Prince of Wales. It is a good thing for the British monarchy and the common people that he abdicated because this man seemed to have more of an interest and fondness for keeping company with tarnished women than he had for leading the country, according to his track record.

On May 1st 1919 Prince Albert (who later became King George VI) attended a gathering of "Working class leaders" in Hoxton, North London, accompanied by only a single companion. Here he met my grandmother. He arranged a liaison with her in Paris. My mother was born nine months later . Before my mother's birth my grandmother took up with a man who accepted paternity of my mother. His name is on my mother's birth certificate. After this man left her for another woman in 1930 my grandmother began telling people that my mother was "a princess", having been fathered by a "member of Royalty" She once told my mother that her father was "The Duke of York. She persisted in this to the end of her life. However, my research found that the man on my mother's birth certificate WAS her father. He had children by the woman he took up with after he left my grandmother ... and DNA tests showed that I am related to them.

Hello everyone a beautiful Monday to you all. Briefcase I so enjoyed this amazing piece of history I was so amazed. Lots of women suffer in silence when it comes to domestic violence between partners. The sigma that is placed on unmarried women having kids out out of wedlock during those era's have a lot of negative impact on women. Her means of servial was crucial, and in doing so, resort to prostitution. Marrying into the Egyptian culture wasn't what she expected, which in terms took a toll on her and killing her husband probably was the only way that she thought of at the time to escape his abuse. Such a tragic case, nevertheless justice was served as the jurors saw fit. Bless you all. Anxiously awaiting next Monday upload ❤❤❤❤

I honestly believe that Marguerite Fahmy committed premeditated murder. Because of her previous relationship with the Prince of Wales and the fact she had kept the ‘embarrassing letters he wrote, she knew England was the best place to kill her husband and get away with it. As she expected, she was able to escape punishment. The unscrupulous Marshall Hall was a good barrister but the result was a foregone conclusion. The trial had ugly racial overtones. After the trial Madame Fahmy tried to gain control of her husband’s assets, which may have been a motive for murder, but the Egyptian courts were able to prevent this.

As always a really interesting story. This one was really engaging. Prince Edward was known as a playboy and part of the Bright Young Things crowd of London during the 20s. Though due to his Royal duties and position he was not as involved as others and was kind of on the edge. Either way he was quite popular in this group. It is sad that a woman during this time who wanted to improve her standing in life and become more financially well off and was willing to work very hard, like Marguerite, found doors closed to her. The only way to move up was either through a fortunate marriage, in which a woman was not always finding happiness ever after. They may find the man to be, like in Marguerite's case, abusive. Or she could turn to prostitution and hope to find better as a courtesan. But, she would have to be beautiful and charming as in Marguerite's case. If she was average moving up even in this trade was iffy.

I very much like listening to your voice and I like the content. Your style very much differentiates you from others doing similar work Regards Denise San Francisco California

I also have never geen. My favourite from the doors is usually the hinges, but occasionally, the handle. 😊

Her picture shows her misery, sad eyes. I have to say, she was a beautiful woman!! Damn shame back in those days, poor women were maids or prostitutes. And, judged so harshly if they had a child. That's why systems were put in place to help those women. I always had respect for Prince Edward. He didn't play their game. I wonder what happened to Marguerites daughter. Did she have a good life. I'm glad she was accquited. For whatever reason. Lol. Everyone stay safe. ✌️ BC, cool one. I thoroughly enjoyed it. 👍

I am not sure what happened to Marguerites daughter but she must have had a son as Marguerite had a grandson

“He didn’t play their game”!? Rich man hires expensive French sex worker while a soldier on foreign soil. Not sure why you think that is praiseworthy.

@@katebowers8107I think the original commenter meant he didn't play by the Royal Family's rules & chose to rebel in many ways (not just with Marguerite).

I believe that Wallace aumpson being an American Divorcee was just the expedient excuse to force a king with horrifying sympathies for fascism from ruling the empire. If anything it was the kings sympathies for the nazis and Wallace's as well that made them both extremely undesirable. It certainly didn't help that her background was so sordid, but it wasn't the worst thing about those two.
