The way you told it... I have to wonder if Elizabeth was being sexually assaulted by her uncle. Naturally, I would NEVER use speculation as fact, so that doesn't excuse murdering. But I think I can see how she went "wild" and her uncle was using the will to keep her in line... His own worst enemy. I am so glad I live in an era where women can make their own living easily.

Great story! Why didn’t she tell the court that her Uncle was abusing her from a young age, threatening her not that gave her the right to do what she did, but it may of saved her life! Thanks for sharing.👍

Trying to accuse an innocent man of murder, but justice was finally served for her and her gardner lover. Great investigating, presentation, and historical information, too.

Excellent story. I find that the culprits - Elizabeth and Swan - were not too bright. Of course they were not real criminals but, average people out to protect an inheritance (and maybe Elizabeth's honor) as well as two people being free to be in love. But, their plan and way they went about it was really easy to spot by the police - even in the era where crime dectection was not advanced at all. In the end it was a very sad tale

Hello Brief Case 💼☺️ I was pleasantly surprised that there were two connected cases so I did go watch Mary's story again because it had been awhile. It seems that the young women were very tightly reigned in by their families, to the point of frustration and even rebellion (or worse). Families always trying to find the best suitors based on their titles/position, etc. Unfortunately these girls were misused by male relatives, and then because they were not very wise, they didn't have good discernment when it came to the company they chose to keep. I can say the same happens today. if the parents don't like him, the gal will see him even more. Even when they've been warned by others that the man is no good, before a woman learns who she is and has confidence, she will give her attention to any man who looks her way. If he whispers sweet nothings and makes promises...the young woman is totally enamored. She has lost all ability to reason and will believe anything the man tells her. Sadly for these two women that is basically what happened. They both found themselves with a bunch of scoundrels who were only after their money as they were sole heirs. Thank you for another interesting story and for sharing the connection to the other. How fascinating that they shared time in the same prison together. And I guess the love was lost when these two could not even look one another in the eyes as they were hung side by side. No last words of affection...🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ And yes I'd love to see/hear a presentation from yourself regarding your process. Have a great week!

I wonder what the uncle was doing with the niece and what dishonorable way was he treating her? The narrator mentioned abuse. I wonder if it was something of a sexual manner . that can traumatize any woman to want to do whatever needs done to be free of a man like that...

As soon as you said they came up with a plan, I was like, ope! This isn't going to end well for either of them. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I really don't understand how people can justify murder! I saw another comment about the uncle possibly being abusive, and I wonder if there's something to that. Doesn't justify murder, but I definitely think something was going on there. I’m just surprised a butcher was that wealthy. I didn’t realize that a butcher was capable of becoming wealthy and having status.

I find it so fascinating how thorough your research is. Right down to the date and day of the week, in the 1700's!!! Some of these cases were better documented than some of the crimes of today.Ive said previously I'm always transported right into the story and era. I'm always impressed.
