Poor Bessie. Her life cut short in early adulthood just because she loved the wrong person, a sleazy, lying young man. She even suffered indignity after her death what with being exhumed twice and having her head cut off. This was a very sad story, told with respect and empathy. Thank you.

My daughter rowed in a crew in high school near Cincinnati. I just looked up the Bessie Little bridge, and it is right next to a park where my daughter rowed in regattas. Knowing I spent time watching her row on the river where Bessie met her death makes me sad.

I knew as soon as her body was found that the reason was it was that she was with child. It seems so sad that so many women met their demise in those days for been so. It's also sad that men took advantage of them knowing their pregnancy would bring shame to them and their family but seemingly uncaring and disposing of them as if they were rubbish and it was all just 'fun' to them. Rip Bessie 🙏

I've tried to explain that when these young men do their very utmost best to woo and con a young girl into giving up her body, that he could be forever changing or destroying her life. It's terrible that young girls are so targeted and then discarded. And then of course blamed for being stupid enough to fall for it.

Frantz had the opportunity and motive. It's obvious to me that he murdered her. I'm befuddled though how the medical examiner missed the second bullet wound after the first one was found. One would think they would've looked the body over more carefully at the 1st exhumation.

The body was in a horrible state. These days, X-ray and CT scan would have been used to investigate but it was different back then. There may have even been more bullet wounds that were missed. I couldn’t imagine how awful it would be to perform an autopsy on such a putrid, decaying, bloated corpse like that. Horrible.

This is such a sad story. To think that back then (which in the grand scheme of things, isn't really even that long ago), to be with child and unmarried was such an issue that this poor lady was so desperate to marry to avoid shame for herself and her family that it ultimately led to her death. Poor Bessie, may she rest in peace. Thank you for your great work as always, BC

@@lindaarrington9397 thankfully by the mid 1970's people my age didn't think it unusual at all, in 1978 i was in a school with 3 or 4 pregnant girls, they continues on in school and even graduated with the help of their families. So the stigma had changed by then in Ohio, anyway where Miss Little was from; that's where I grew up Dayton , Ohio. They weren't ostracized from the other students, if anything everyone was just worried about them and perhaps felt sorry for them. I am sure it differs from subcultures , for example in the amish community or Jehovah's witness maybe? But by and large in the wider community its not looked down upon. Of course its not desired either, because it makes going to college etc a bit harder,

I find it interesting how some things haven't changed. The story of love, sex, and betrayal could be played out today. It might be more acceptable in society for an unmarried woman to be pregnant, but it doesn't necessarily hurt any less. The tragedy of a pregnancy resulting in deaths of them all.

I'm wondering if I heard that correctly? So they severed her head in order to put her head on display? I think that should be corpse mutilation to be honest. I mean, if her head was already severed I could understand that, however, it sounds to me like they severed her head in order to display it. Why do that and desecrate the corpse further? I don't understand or never will understand law enforcement of the 19th century....

Okay, no one has ever been able to shoot themselves twice in the head as a means of suicide. Bessie was very remarkable if she could have pulled that off. I'd love to hear the arguments on how Bessie could have shot herself twice.

Nope, it has been done. Double shoots are not even that uncommon. Google it.

@@chickenlover657 Really? People must have had either great determination or great dexterity to shoot themselves in the head twice. I'll goggle it. Thanks for telling me. I really do appreciate the knowledge.
@chickenlover657
@chickenlover657 Жыл бұрын
@@LtRee96se It's been done mostly with old guns, which sometimes double discharge. Plus you can actually double click in a matter of a tenth of a second. In modern times it's mostly due to a first miss, like you don't know how to handle a gun, so you just wound yourself. And if you're determined enough - you shoot again. Btw, I learned this in forensics class, so yeah, certified true.

Highly unlikely she would have had the reach or dexterity to pop herself behind her ear twice, never mind the ability after the first bullet! Come on now! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😔😒

GOOD morning BC! 💼 I was up early and off to the doctor this morning, but I got here right after. Thank goodness for the policeman Mr. Thomas cuz he didn't give up! I'm sure he knew exactly how men behaved back then, and went right into action sorting it out once he had a lead. It is too bad she had to be exhumed twice, autopsy wasn't done properly the first time to determine two bullets, not one, were in her skull. And what about that pregnancy? They didn't seem to determine if she were or not! Poor woman...sadly it was the only chance a woman had back then was to try to "snag a good catch". It is only too bad the menfolk were such cads...carrying on with multiple ladies. I hope he didn't do this to anyone else and never was caught...he did pay the price in the end. Thankfully he didn't get away with it, which in other cases is so very maddening. His family tho...🤦🏻‍♀️ Thank you again for another intriguing case, week after week without fail. Your time and talents are much appreciated!

The uterus decays early because of all the bacteria in the vagina and nearby rectum. An embryo would decay quickly or a fetus would likely be expelled through the vagina because of gas buildup. When this happens inside a coffin, we call it “coffin birth”. In a River, the fetus would float away.

Good morning BC. It always surprises me when the cases are here in the US. But it is such a large country. I do dislike the fact that easily unidentifiable bodies are so dismissed and coroners don’t do their jobs.

I follow a lot of the cold cases where Does are being identified by DNA. It is shocking how many times, even up to the 1980's, where the authorities assumed the Does were drug users, prostitutes, runaways, or homeless - people that were considered 'throw away' and not worth spending resources on. I don't mean that all cops and coriners felt this way. Many dedicated years searching to give the Does back their name. But there are a disturbing number of cases where the Doe was only a relatively short distance from home, and nobody even tried to discover their identity.
