Let's face it, no one else had a motive. The purchase of the wig is extremely suspicious. He couldn't live within his means, and saw an easy solution. One that required a horrendous act of violence. One that he was clearly willing to commit.

@@carolannemckenzie3849 Thank you! I thought I was losing my mind seeing all these people thinking he was innocent (not even questioning his guilt, but innocent) as there's no proof. It was his MO to lure people out of their homes under false pretenses, that's what happened to the mom (and he did this to her before, and admitted it), and the maid said it sounded like Carl. If there was proof he bought a wig and disguise prior to the murder, what else do people need, what was the disguise for? Agree, guilty!

Dauntless ASMR, Hi I agree. Carl Hau was guilty, especially buying the fake wig, beard and coat. That was very suspicious. Plus the maid heard a voice that sounded like Carl Hau on the phone shortly before the murder. Like was also mentioned Carl was fond of luring people in like a spider to his deceitful web. Carl was just NOT trustworthy.

If he was having an affair with the sister, he could have purchased the disguise for her sister thinking that (of the two of them) he would be less likely identified or tracked. The possibilities are endless in cases like these. I don’t think the grandson is going to get the definitive answers he seeks.

If it wasn’t Carl who shot Lina’s mother, then his purchase of a wig, a fake beard and a coat was incredibly odd (why and what did he need those items for?)….so truly odd it’s quite hard to believe it’s a mere coincidence and he was innocent of the crime.

Well if your daughter said she loved a man so much that she would kill herself if she couldn’t be with him and then she got shot in what seemed to be some sort of suicide attempt or pact endorsing the relationship might seem like the best option. Given Lena’s later suicide it may indeed have been the best option. Also Lena was fairly old be unmarried at that time and by running off with Carl created a scandal that would have made it next to impossible for her to be married to a “better match”. Keep in mind this was at a time when you couldn’t just send someone to a therapist. Allowing Carl and Lena to wed keeps your daughter happy (and alive) and somewhat protects the family name. Or you continue to disallow the relationship and your daughter eventually either kills herself or winds up an unwed mother which was almost a fate worse than death. It seems Lena had an absolutely unhealthy love for Carl and some mental instability as well and lived in a time and place where there was no real help available to her. As Simon Whistler likes to say “the past is the worst.”

@@TGuard00014 excellent observation. There's so much in this story, and I love the way BC brings out these layers. Lina might have had bipolar, she was given to extremes of emotion. Poor girl. I did wonder how the relationship would end when she started marriage with some emotional blackmail. Not the best choice, if I'm honest.😁

@susanivy3619

Problem is, do you know how unreliable witness testimony is? There were many witnesses but only one claimed to see him at the railway, very easy to be mistaken. Plus, I don't get why people don't take his MO into consideration, the fact he admitted to luring people out of their homes under false pretenses (the mom, for one). Then she gets a call luring her out of the home once again, and the maid said it sounded like him? IMO all they have to prove is he bought the disguise prior to the murder, if so, case closed.

I might feel badly for him taking his own life if he didn't *blatantly* ignore the court by writing about his crime and then completely disappearing. They should have just left him in jail then, or not commuted his sentence at all if he's going to be this dishonest about it. An innocent person would jump at the chance to start a new life and begin anew, but all he did was technically commit more crimes.

What? He literally admitted luring people out of their homes under false pretenses in the past (the mom was one of them). Now the mom gets lured out once again, and the maid said it sounded like Carl? There's more proof he did it than the daughter. Maybe he wanted her dead so his wife could inherit her fortune. Witness testimony is the worst testimony as people are often mistaken in what they see. very unreliable..and only one random person says they saw him at the railway, all the other witnesses seem to point to him, for the most part.

@@susanivy3619 Exactly he admitted to such behavior in the past, but he didn't kill before. So the daughter used that to her advantage. That's just my opinion, because the way things played out after his conviction

@@susanivy3619 Also the maid and people saying it looked and sounded like him that's all considered circumstantial evidence, i firmly believe he was framed. Like the dude that was recruited to play him like why would he come forward if he got his cut paid for his role in the whole thing to say other wise. People cold blooded. Like people can plot and communicate back in those days with letters and just destroy the paper trail. Feel like it would be much easier to plot back then and get away with it. Now a days people be texting, emails and phone records they can be got a hold of to expose certain things, so yeah that's just my opinion

@@sharonpratt9824 Hi Guess we will never fully know but I think Carl Hua and Olga were secretly romancing and this was their plan to get her mother out of the way and take all her money. But just my opinion is all...

Maybe Carl and Olga were in on it together. I think they were cheating, so it's possible that they killed her mother for her inheritance. Another great video

A strange and fascinating case indeed! It sounds as though Carl Hau was guilty. If he wasn't, who else would have committed the crime, and for what reason? But so much, especially the motive and the real relationship between Carl and Olga, remains a mystery.

Except he wrote a book about his experience then killed himself. I think he wanted his side to get out before he died. He knew writing the book would land him back in jail but it was important to him to do so and he left no legacy other than that. He didn’t profit from it. Sad, sad case. I think it was one of the old lady’s children.

Cheers for this odd case as well as the link! I suppose the items he purchased could have been worn by someone else. Very interesting that Olga wasn’t targeted as well but then again her presence wasn’t requested. I feel terrible for his wife though. What a tormented soul. Off to the website now!
