Today's Tool Review Tuesday video features the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Quik-Lok Grass Line Trimmer with attachment capability, model 2825-20ST. This is a new item for 2019 and is a great tool for maintaining your lawn and landscaping, especially if you purchase the additional attachments. The price can be seen by clicking on The Home Depot link just below.
Overall, I'm very happy with the specs and performance of this trimmer and find that it cuts well, with plenty of power. The balance is spot-on, especially with the larger 9Ah battery. The trimmer head has some great features that you will see mentioned in this video. In the short time that I had to test this trimmer out, it seemed to not scalp the lawn as easy as some other trimmer heads I've used.

Hello I switched from a stihl gas powered trimmer that went to shit after 1 year of use to a battery powered trimmer by Milwaukee and holy moly what a difference it made. I'm super happy with my trimmer.

I do commercial work and these things Are getting better all the time. It will eventually get to the point where you won't even need the gas unless you are on a large overgrown job. We installed An inverter in our trailer that always keeps a battery fresh.

I bought the latest model of this today, 6/14/20, works better than the pro gas trimmer I replaced.mine came with .080 line but instruction say you can use.090 as well. Love it. Nice review thanks

Can someone help?, I bought a Milwaukee strimmer and I am trying to figure out what this part is in my hand, it looks like a plastic deep impact socket (smooth inside, closed at one end), a hanger at the top and a lock-unlock window in the middle, its bugging the hell out of me not knowing what it is, and nothing in the instructions!

@@engjds It has been a yr but sure you figured it out by now . It is to hang the whipper snipper by a hook once you unhook it from the strimmer. Place over end of pole and twist to lock it on .

I recently bought one. I have a main home with one acre and tons of trimming and a lake cabin that needs the tall stuff kept down for fire mitigation. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THE MILWAUKEE, it’s the real deal. The Stihl FS110 is going on Craig’s list, no more being beat up, fighting with the string head, etc. and no I’m not in any way associated with Milwaukee tools.

Seen a video of a lawn care guy he did at 5 yards on one battery. I have a quarter acre yard and I only use 1 bar. Or you can put in a 12.0 battery and go for a long time.

Everyone talks of buying extra batteries for lawn care companies. I use all of my Milwaukee tools professionally and used to run with the commercial lawn care outfits. Before I'd buy a new battery at the kind of prices that they command I would have an inexpensive 400 watt power inverter in the cab of the truck. With Milwaukee's rapid charger the 9 amp battery will charge in about 1.5 hours from fully discharged to fully charged. Leave the battery on the charger between jobs and you will have plenty of battery for the larger residential jobs. 1 hour of run time for most residential lawn jobs is a LOT of trimming!

Im currently using the blower for my company. I clean 7 gardens a day and i use two 12Amp batteries. I just ordered this tool and for the work i do which is basi maintenance, i might use all the life out of my other 12 Amp.

I own one of these and it is amazing. But it eats batteries, 1hr of run time is a farce. I am hard on it no doubt, but i recommend having multiple batteries.

Got myself one of these and it's great, but how do you find the bump feed? Seems to take a fair bit to get it to let some out & even then it's not much. I get how winding on new line works as well, but it's not easy either - seems to click, click, click as I'm winding it on. Any thoughts?

Mine came with an 8 battery and I was a bit annoyed I didn't get the 9 but oh well. I'm still happy with it, for what I need this is overkill lol. No more bullshit mixing gas, oil and winterizing.

ultimately had to order it from my local H Depot (none in stock) but got the combo with the pole saw. the basic trimmer is very powerful. my area to trim is rather small, but with the 9.0 battery provided i still show a full 4 bars of charge even after 20 mins use, so in my case i've got power in reserve. more than pleased.

It's a great trimmer. It's nice not having to worry about mixed fuel or starting warm up time. Just pull the trigger and it's at full speed pretty quick.

I currently have the Echo battery powered trimmer ,the first model with the split shaft .I was able to use the blade and hedge trimmer attachments .It was great until the motor died.I went to get a new one but the new model is not a split shaft. I could get a gas power head but don't want to mess with gas anymore '' noise and exhaust fumes''. I will be taking a good look at the Milwaukee trimmer.Echo is not keeping up with there battery line up and falling behind.

Check out the RYOBI (BTW parent company TTI owns Milwaukee & Homelite) brushless 40V universal attachment capable powerhead @ Home Depot. I was going to buy this Milwaukee brushless powerhead until I found out it DOES NOT accept universal Homelite, Ryobi etc. type attachments I already own.

Maybe the 2 speed setting is more for using the power head on other attachments or other attachments on the power head.

I really like this trimmer. Unfortunately, they don't offer a brush blade accessory at this time. I've heard many people say that the U-style hand grips, also know as the bicycle style grips are the safest for running a brush blade.

So I just picked up the flex volt string trimmer, how heavy is that one because I'm 50-50 I kind of want that one but I kind of like the DeWalt but the DeWalt is very heavy

Great question... I was just using the Milwaukee trimmer yesterday and I felt like it's balanced very nice and the weight seemed no different than my other gas trimmers. In fact, I thought it was slightly lighter. I'm using the 9Ah battery. Hope that helps!

How do these do in tall, thick overgrown green/wet weeds? How would it compare to, say a Stihl 94R in tall/overgrown weeds. I'm sure it would eat batteries, but can it cut it without bogging down too much? I can't find any videos on KZfaq showing it cutting thick overgrown weeds.

It's okay, but I'd grab my ECHO SRM 2620T for my first choice. I believe I overheated the battery after extensive hard use on the Milwaukee. This Milwaukee trimmer is great because it's quick and easy to grab and go. No warm-up time, just pull the trigger and you're off.

Ok Sir this or a EKO I am on the fence as to what is the way to go. I am at Home Depot confused more than before LOL I do need a blower and trimmer- I am gun shy cuss I just returned one that COSTCO’S sells my wife purchased for me the run time wasn’t good other wise they were ok - but no customer service to brag about Thank You I value your opinion PS I don’t have any other battery operated toys so it’s a stand alone for me but I will add attachments later

I think both brands will serve you well. I've tried out some Ego tools and like what they have to offer. I've heard great things about them too from other friends. I own the Milwaukee trimmer and accessories and it really does a great job and has good run time. One single battery charge will get a lot of work done.

This has an easy to load head. The Ego is an auto feed that's pretty cool. I have a video showing the Ego in use from April of 2019 at the Home Depot Prospective event.

I've heard good things about the EGO brand and have visited their display and met the owner at a Home Depot event. I'm hoping to test out their products sometime soon. They have a fast feed head that works well and looks easy. The Milwaukee is easy to load as well, compared to the older style where you have to take it all apart.

It's a handy trimmer and I think it works well. My favorite accessory so far is the hedge trimmer.

Have you noticed an excessive amount of line use? I have used the stock speed feed head, and now the echo. I have tried a stock line, some green squared .0080, and my usual stihl round .0095 and I burn through line. I feel like i am bumping out every few feet of work. My commercial Echo with the same line and head I bump feed line at most twice per cut. Something is not right here.

I'll have to test this out some more to see if I notice that. It seemed pretty normal to me with the Milwaukee line. I experimented and discovered you can put an ECHO Speed Feed head on this trimmer. I have an extra one that I've been testing out and I decided it will be best served on my Stihl trimmer.

Have you tried the ECHO Black Diamond line? That seems to feed out well for me and cuts nice. I used to use Husqvarna line, that I was always going through.

Jerome Duffy battery MSRP is about $150 the bare tool is $220 If you get the kit with the promo free attachment you get charger for free so you kind of pay a premium thinking future wise, on the DeWalt side theirs is extremely overpriced for just a 13-16" swath For OPE I would tell people to get just the standard trimmer, it's going to be cheaper anyways and you don't have to hog over one power head This seems to be more for homeowner that needs more versatile needs Lawn Care doesn't always need attachments

Jerome Duffy 9.0 shouldn't be that much, if anything it was the 12.0 Online has better pricing that is current with the market, they might have just used old pricing based on original valuation, meaning when they released many of their batteries usually the older ones decrease in value but still can say that MSRP is still at the same cost

There isn't a brush blade for the string trimmer. You're best bet is the pole chainsaw attachment.

Lots of negative reviews on the overheating issues which has me hesitant. Doesn’t appear they’ve updated this unit to resolve these issues.

I've had it overheat one time after extended use in tall weeds with a 9Ah battery. Other than that, it's a great trimmer. I'm testing out the brushless dedicated trimmer next and will push it and see.

I haven't thought much of the vibration issue yet, but just went out there and noticed what you're talking about. I compared it to another brand battery trimmer which had slightly less vibration. I've used an old gas Husqvarna trimmer for years which had lots of vibration, so I guess I've grown accustomed to that issue.

Does anyone feel this trimmer makes an annoying high pitched whine, especially when you release the throttle and it powers down? I thought I might have a defective unit, but after listening to this review it sounds just like mine. It works fine, it just sounds like something it not connecting right.

Now that you mention it, yes. The sound it makes sounds like it needs some grease. I often wear ear muffs with music or a podcast playing, so I rarely hear the noise.

Why would they make this and not put out a brush blade kit? I was going to invest until I looked into it and seen they didn’t have a brush blade kit for it. So I picked up a 2620 with the optional brush blade kit sorry Milwaukee you missed out on the money!

Used it for the first time today and the 9Ahr did not last anywhere near 1 hr. It was out in less than 20 minutes. I swapped in a new battery and after a few minutes it wouldn't stay on for more than a few seconds. Very disappointing especially after spending all that money.

I've done off and on hedge trimming with the 9Ah battery and it lasted a long time. The grass trimmer must drain the battery faster. I just received a 12Ah battery. I'm going to compare that and test the run time in the trimmer very soon. Stay tuned for the video.

Back to reinvention!!! Overheat issue makes it absolutely raw and unacceptable for regular comfortable use! Not each item, but maybe 3 of 5 with such malfunction.

I've never noticed my trimmer get hot to the touch. I've had one time where the unit stopped after prolonged use. All the other times, this works great for me.

The string head looks too bulky. Might suck trying to finesse your way around the nooks and crannies of rocks, and uneven terrain next to edging. I’d have to try b4 buy.

It seems like a standard size in my opinion. For kicks, I installed an ECHO speed feed head and it worked about the same, so I switched them back.

I'm disappointed Milwaukee didn't make this powerhead accept universal RYOBI & Homelite Expand-It type attachments. IMHO it's going to hurt their sales somewhat. I was going to buy this because I have a couple 18V Milwaukee batteries but I'll prolly be buying the RYOBI Brushless 40V universal attachment capable string trimmer powerhead instead because I already have the pole saw, string trimmer, edger & mini tiller attachments. I'm trying to do my part environmentally by going all electric & it's much quieter early in the morning doing yardwork as to not bother any neighbors. Milwaukee you dropped the ball on this one by not accepting universal Expand-it type attachments. Pretty stupid IMO because Milwaukee's parent company TTI owns RYOBI & HOMELITE!

If I had to guess why they don't offer a universal fit, it's probably because they differentiate themselves as commercial grade instead of diy or homeowner grade.

Milwaukee is on a different wave length with power and battery technology compared to ryobi and homelite.

If there's string in there, just tap the head to the ground 1 or 2 times while it's spinning fast.

Driving to the gas station, mixing fuel, will take 5 minutes. 2 gallons of 40:1 will last me through a full day. $500 in batteries and 25 hrs charge time to last the day? Nah im sticking with 2 stroke 🤣

Maybe if Milwaukee came out with a power pack backpack that lasts the day, it might be able to compete in the scenario you mentioned.

Maybe not for a professional to run 10 hours at a clip. But boy us homeowner type hate the gas n oil. Not to mention pulling it when its cold.

@@MarkThomasBuilder but those battery backpacks are like $1000. I can get 2 2620s with that! No doubt battery has come a long way, but the no hassle of oil and gas makes no sense imo

You can keep your 2 stroke. With the single HD12ah battery I could easily trim at least 8-9 houses with battery to spare. I’ve got 3 of those and the 9ah given with these the tool. While trimming hedges, I even got better life, over 3 hours of hedge trimming and only used 1 bar of the 9ah pack. I’ve owned the best of Stihl, Husqvarna, And even some Echo, I no longer do lawns commercially and ditched the gas tools for battery, happiest I’ve ever been using OPE. I’d love to meet up with guys like you and go a day with my battery trimmer and you can use your gas, I’ll do everything you do, without the noise, hassle, smell, mixing of fuel, refueling, maintenance.

I tell you what. Good power, but not big league yet. I use it for commercial use. Motor gets hot and shuts down. Not productive. Going back to Stihl gas.

I had mine do that once so far, but overall, I'm happy with it. The hedge trimmer is amazing and runs a long time.

HUGE PILE OF CRAP! On my second battery and it only lasts 5-10 minuets! If the battery has 3 bars out of 4 the charger says it is fully charged but is not.

Huh, I'm not having issues like that. I upgraded to the 12Ah high output battery which works very well. I made a video last summer showing how much it can do on a single charge.

@@MarkThomasBuilder have you ever ran the trimmer continuously. I just got one and after 10 to 15 minutes its stops and after waiting a couple of minutes it turns one for a few seconds and that's with a 12.0 but idk if it's defective. The homedepot cashier dropped the box when she was loading it on my cart. When I use my pole saw.... I have a power head dedicated for it it doesn't shut off at all but the trimmer that has its own power head does.
