We're the Woodworths, Woody, Megan, Wade, & a baby on the way! Our family is building an off grid homestead in the Ozark mountains. Our journey started by remodeling the existing hunting cabin, which was really a glorified shed.
Next up: clearing land for off grid cabin # 2, a 20x30 cabin with exterior insulation, 2 beds, 1 bath, and enough space for us to kickstart our homestead as our little family grows.
Our 2nd baby is due in October of 2024, and we hope to have the cabin dried in before it comes.
We lamented for months about buying this excavator, but feel that it's the best way to make big progress here on our mountainous, heavily overgrown, and unmanaged hunting property.

Its good to see neighbors helping neighbors. I have to admit. The chainsaw fiasco was amusing. I lived in south mississippi when katrina hit. After the devastation we suffered, as much as i love the look of big trees in the yard, i have made sure to not have any large enough to reach my house.

Yes! It was a pretty bad storm. A bunch of folks around us had things crushed from falling trees or were stuck in their houses because of downed lines. I finally made it into Rogers today and the amount of damage around walnut was pretty unbelievable

You may have already addressed this but, is the plan to sell the barndominium to finance the homestead project or are you keeping both?

@@Charles-xq6mr the plan is to sell our “temp house” that we lived in before the barndominium as soon as possible. It’s a 3/2 doublewide that we rented out last September. We own it outright & lived in it for more than 2 years (no capital gains), so we will pocket the profit from that & reinvest it here. We have a lot of work left to do on the barndominium, and would like to hold on to it until we’re ready to move here permanently, so likely another year or so. We desperately need to downsize and that feels like a monumental task on its own. Our shop is enormous and we want to build a place here for all that to go straight into before we sell. Lots of moving parts, but we’re patient and will eventually get it done!

@@Charles-xq6mr thank you! We are certainly trying to make things happen, it all takes a little longer when you’ve got little ones. I’m just glad we have a few years to get it all nailed down before we have to start intentionally homeschooling the kids. Gives me a little more freedom!

Gotta prioritize though. It’s hard to “prep” like we do in NC when we have no space, little infrastructure, and so many moving parts to improve the first two line items that there’s not much time. One of these days that will change, but that’s what we’re working towards

Us too! It was a scary night, that’s for sure. We stayed at my moms because we were all exhausted from Wade’s birthday party and woke up to the sound of the storm and transformers blowing a couple houses up.

Yes! I grew up in central Texas and was a little one when the F5 hit Jarrell. My cousins lived there, and my parents had only moved out of Jarrell when my mom was about to have me. We are haunted by the idea that a tornado can spring up and destroy everything. We were blessed not to have serious issues this time, but we’ll be clearing the trees around the cabin just in case!

Look into hydro electric power especially if you are going to a make a series of dams. There is a very old and efficient design that creates a funnel/whirlpool type flow that boosts the rate of flow so more power generated.

Woody needs training, or a mentor, to learn how to safely use a chainsaw. There are ways to ensure your machine doesn't get jammed. Also, people have been killed when fallen stumps suddenly right themselves. His answer to all difficult tasks seems to be brute strength, not smart thinking. Good luck.

Megan’s parents place in town. They took our son to a hotel and hour or so away when we got the notice there were more tornadoes expected for a 2nd night and they didn’t have power. Woody and I stayed and kept the fridges running.

Scarey stuff!, the tornados went just north and south of grove ok andcwent on to hit gravette and Rogers Ar,, i lived in rogers for well over 30 yrs and never got hit, moved away about 09 and miss Ar terribly, hope u guys/family didnt have any loss's , btw, love the videos 👍✌️❤️ recognize beaver town bridge,, ive got a pic of it all under water except the top of the poles and the top cable, funny when u hit the area with the rock walls on either side i was like on youll go thru a lil s curve then a sharp right, then a sharp left with a drive that shoots off that curve and there it was, man watchin ur channel makes me miss home, u guys wanna seexa cool place find lake lucern in eureka, turn off 62 in eureka onto 23 south and about a block you'll see a sign for the turn on ur left, worth takin a look, i would rent a town house there for the blues fest, its a spring fed lake down in the bottom of a hollar and is probably 15 degrees cooler there than up in town, a very awesome place 👍✌️❤️

We were extremely fortunate! A few houses up from my mom a tree took out a power line & landed on top of someone’s car, totaled it, barely missed the house. And a few more houses up a transformer blew and wrecked the poles on either side of it. Had to replace the pole, transformer and lines. Out in the hollow everyone got lucky. Most folks are off grid so there’s not much in the way of power lines to worry about. Yall doing ok?

You should have EVERYTHING you need at the Camp for OFF GRID,Bro bring back to moms modern home so they have coffee dinner breakfast lights w your generator etc.. that's what off gridding is all about. At least I'm praying you have all these items.. Be real careful talking about Damming Any water.. not to sure they like that out there in Biden/obummer land.

we did exactly that & brought our extra generator back to moms to make sure everything there was taken care of. hoping to install our solar kit (if it comes in next week) before the middle of July so we can run the cabin without needing the generator at all.
