Turkey to Bristol: Day 1

After a few last minute changes I made it down to Turkey to ride the Thunderbird home. First I had to do a couple of repairs and get Thundy ship shape for the return journey. After a little help from my fighter jet mechanic neighbour things were looking good. Riding a bike through europe in November is going to present it's challenges. Day 1 gave me all the excitement I needed to get through the ride - maybe that was slightly premature...

So glad the problem with the bike wasn't serious. It makes you feel very vulnerable when you have bike trouble abroad. I need to learn what you did, pull over when the going gets heavy. Much better than ploughing on. Enjoy the rest of the trip. Great vids

I only saw your channel today and as a Thunderbird 900 owner for the last ten years i was interested, then literally saw you drive within a few miles of my house in Turkey, I thought what that looks familiar. great videos by the way.

That's very cool. Where are you in Turkey? Not sure I'll be riding it all the way there again, but it was the best experience ever. Seriously got the moto-touring bug now. The Thunderbirds are simply tanks, no issues (apart from a small one in the next episode, mother nature's fault!). I absolutely love these bikes.

Im in Davutlar just south of Kusadasi i know that customs office my Thunderbird is a 2002 its my second one, Turkey is a lovely place people are often surprised how quick it has developed especially along the aegean coast. @@thebristolthunderbird

That will be an epic trip mate. Be sure to do some filming, even if it's just on your phone. I have been looking back through footage and watched things that I had genuinely forgotten! There's so much going on all the time on a trip like this, you'll struggle to remember it all. Keep me posted mate, might meet you on the road somewhere!

Safe journey home..., well, I suppose it was a safe one, otherwise i'd not be wathching this now! A bikers dream..., to still have temps in the 20s in Nov. Been wondering what the route will be, I reckon: up the east coast of Italy, at San Marino, across to Bologna, then Turin, over the French border towards Lyon, up towards Paris, carrying on to Dieppe, catch the Ferry to Newhaven and from here on in, with your UK cap for LHDriving safely mounted, so as not to be thrown at the 1st roundabout...., it's a strait road home to Bristol. Yes, all seems easy on papier but, was there not a lot of very bad weather in Nov. to be navigated!! Keep up the good filming and entertaining editing, this is gonna be a good ride home to follow. Thanks.

Day 1 was a lovely soft introduction to quite a challenging ride. Totally loved it though. Bike was safe and sound thankfully.

Your last comment on that strip on no-mans-land, was similar to the one on your journey down. That got me thinking... Illegal immigrants from the eastern countries come through Turkey wanting to reach EU, and Greece is the first of the EU countries. Hence the military enforcements. That's my theory anyway, wot d'ya reckon?

Yea, pretty sure there's extra security on the borders due to illegal migrants etc, but also the Turks and the Greeks really don't have a good relationship with each other. Their whole history is riddled with some quite distressing events - non of them resolved or forgotten!
