Yea, because when the Royal Navy saw them Bismarck was in front of Prinz Eugen. But they did not know that Bismarck lost it's main radar when "he" tried to fire on the 2 HMS cruisers, Suffolk and Norfolk, disableing his own main radar. Because of this Prinz Eugen was ordered to take the lead.

@@avatar9292 To be fair, the Hipper class does look like a scaled down Bismarck. I have a book written by the second gunnery officer of the Prinz Eugen, very interesting.

This happened fairly often. The HMS Sheffield was confused for the Bismarck as well and became the target of an attack run by friendly Swordfish bombers. It turns out that identifying a blip from kilometres away is difficult.

(But yes, in real life, the French put a LOT of work into balancing (physically, not for fairness :p) their Battleships after building multiple quad gunned turrets. The British discovered the same probelm with the Price of Wales and her Sisters how mind bogglingly unsteady the turrets were. Despite believing they had thought of it before construction, and designed appropriately. The outboard barrels shifted the turrets quite a lot. They did come up with a quite ingenious locking mechanism. Because large caliber Turrets typically have a kind of in built vertical and horizontal stabiliser. This means you can't really lock the barrels in place, or the movement of the ship will change the trajectory a fraction of a degree (Maybe more or less depending of weather conditions, and ship stability). At a few kilometres range. That's more than enough to cause a shell to sail clean over a ships super structure, or hit and detonate in the water short enough than the targets crew stay dry... This locking mechanism engaged as the trigger was pulled, and locked the horizontal traverse temporarily. That's one of the mechanisms that failed on C Turret during the first engagement with Bismarck. A Turret suffered other mechanical faults too. In relation to the automated recoil and return system (which also had to be built around the horizontal stabiliser). This made stuffing a new set of shells into the guns impossible, because the breach wasn't level with the ram.) A long winded way of saying... Yes, many guns = accuracy problem :p The Germans liked spending less money and steel on shells, and less time missing, and putting as much lead into the enemy as was put down range. The British could afford to throw salvo after salvo into the water (Certainly the Americans too, although they took a hint from the Germans and used Radar guided fire directors) Which is why I get a little bit upset when my pretty Gneisenau sends 6 shells down range... And 2 end up in the same navigational charts as the target is sailing in... Or most German cruisers between tiers 4 and 9...

The issue really comes down to the game is put out by russians as everyone knows, and this just a way to get back at the germans for 27 million dead russians . i don't play dds but the bb line is just as bad. they cant hit the ocean without the help of gravity.

@@wei270 LOL, before Furutaka got her Double-gun turret buff update, she was a pain in the ass to play, her dispersion was shit, her forward firepower was abysimal and forcing you to go half-broadside all the time (and get critted in the process). She was basically just Tenryu on steroid. Believe me, the first time I play her with Double-gun update, she is a different ship entirely. Much easier to play. Too bad since I already grinded pass her at that time and Cleve (and Mogami 155, I unlocked her by the time the update went live) had been nerfed

Yeah, I'll second that, the current state of balance is horrible for German ships. They aren't durable at all, they constantly eat full AP pens unless it's fired into the angled belt armour, and the massive superstructure attracts HE spam from all over the map. Just dcp'd the two fires that got set on you? Well, here's three more, have fun losing the rest of your HP, enjoy your trip back to port, thanks for playing. Their torpedo protection isn't great either. The guns are rubbish as well, can't hit anything half the time, AP tends to overpen and the HE is lacklustre. You'd think the double barrel turret setup would have some sort of accuracy bonus over the triple/quad barrel variants, but nope, no dice. I love the German cruisers and BB's, but goddamn they can be painful to play.

Yeah, but Prinz Eugen has thicker turtleback, that can not be overmatched, unlike Hipper, and has that Repair Party. She is pretty special in terms of Tier 8 cruisers. Shit DPM maybe, but at least she can survive relativly well, to thorw shit on the enemy back. :P

As far as the game goes, only good thing about Germans as of now is their looks which gives nothing for gameplay and balance.

Depends on how much you hate the new russian battleships and their tier IX/X 60mm central deck armour. German 203mm HE with IFHE gets enough HE penetration to actually deal damage to that section of the Soyuz/Kreml and the german CAs are the only "normal" caliber CAs that can do that (only the big gun cruisers with 305mm or higher caliber guns can penetrate the same 60mm deck armour and only if they use IFHE ... Siegfriend will be the sole exception with being able to HE pen that deck without IFHE). Not even the IFHE HIV (everyone's favourite Moskva/Stalingrad counter) can deal damage to that deck section on the russian tier IX and X BBs. So yeah, if you really, REALLY want to pen those russian hightier BBs, IFHE on the hightier german CAs is actually a viable choice if you're willing to spend those 4 captain points.

It's the only viable build for this ship. - Incoming Fire Alert instead of Priority Target because almost every BB will shoot this ship once spotted. - Adrenaline Rush instead of Expert Marksman because the guns turn swiftly by default. - Superintendent for extra fighter & defAA/hydro. - Concealment because without it, Conqueror can outspot this ship.

Honestly I would take it further. Don't agree with IFA though. In order: PT, AR, SI, CE, MAA, EL, DE/VIG, PM I might consider taking the +2 flak module for a committed AA build, otherwise I'd try to salvage the terrible accuracy with aiming mod. I'd drop concealment mod for 2nd rudder mod. There's no point in going for full stealth if I usually can't do anything with it, and if I needed the extra -1km detection to break off from an opponent that would kill me then I was probably too close in the first place. Hipper will usually be operating from the second line or non-stealthily flanking, trying to put out as much damage as she can while preserving as much health as she can for the second half of the match. She's the closest thing to a brawling cruiser at T8, only bested by her sister (due to better overall durability via heals). She can do enormous damage to battleships and other cruisers with her torpedoes and AP in 1v1 duels, and she can easily charge through smoke screens with hydro. It's just that living that long without being a net negative on the team is difficult.

@@flashtirade IFA is to avoid getting slam dunked by the sniping BBs because Hipper is equally squishy against plunging AP. Especially in the meta where camping is the most sensible way to survive the broken mechanics. I'd agree to use the 2nd rudder mod though because full concealment does not matter for a ship that opens fire at open water throughout the battles.

Well, at least they now prepare you properly for FdG, which is just as shitty as when Tirpitz and Bismarck were actually good.

FDG is after the buffs a enjoyable expierience. Hydro+ good amour+ 20 sec reaload and good secondaries makes it pretty game dictating. I had a 62 wr with that mix.

I can tell you, as a CV player, whoever tells you to dodge is a terrible CV player or not a CV player at all. Your dodging only serves to mitigate damage. The real only hope against CV is to sail within 5 km of the allied ships, especially as a DD.
