I was a manager at GameStop when Marvel came out, and I had some sorry sap buy the Marvel vs Capcom Collector's Edition. Same dude comes in a few hours later, looking really glum, and asks what our return policy was. I told him how it worked, but then looked him dead in the eye and said, "Dude, if you wanna bring that piece of sh*t back, I'll totally honor it." He always came to my store for a few years after that, haha.

I was expecting the infinity stones to be those really cheap, jaggedy acrylic gems you can buy to put in fishtanks or flowerpots. Somehow, the reality is actually slightly worse.

Yakuza 6 had a pretty interesting collector's edition. Along with being fairly cheap for a collector's edition (under $100 US), it more or less fit that idea of the extras being stuff that could fit in the game world. Because what you got was, basically a set of drinking ware. It came with two coasters with the logo of the Tojo Clan, a pair of whiskey stones (with carrying bag!) engraved with logos for the Heat Action mechanic, and a set of two highball glasses etched with a very complex design featuring the dragon from Kiryu's tattoos. And an artbook that's partly the typical kinda boring character renders and a smattering of concept art, but then has a section with a lot of really nice fan art that was submitted to Sega. It's one of the few collector's editions I've gotten because, along with the reasonable price, the items are things that are actually useful. I have the coasters on the coffee table in my room, I have one of the glasses on display but use the other, and I don't like having ice in my drinks, so the whiskey stones are useful even when I'm not drinking alcohol. Plus it's unique compared to the typical statues and such these things usually come with.

I would actually expect more from Poundland if they made the Infinity Stones.

My suggestion for the candle is that it smells of the corprolite strata from an archaeological dig.

Some fun facts about Marvel vs Capcom Infinite that lead up to just *how absolutely terrible* the collection edition's false advertising for easter eggs truly is: 1) The lack of X-Men characters, which have 100% representation in every 'Vs.' game involving Marvel IPs, are missing. The response from the PR guy, Peter 'Combofiend' Rosas (who is known for playing She-Hulk in MvC3 because he loves the character despite how weak she is), claims that no one will miss those characters because they were only played for their functions. Which resulted in some pretty hilarious memes, a complete mod for MvC3 which replaces every character with the same gray mannequin, and Combofiend leaving the company. Calling it a "PR Disaster" is generous. 2) The roster is made almost entirely of returning MvC3 characters, while leaving out many fan favorites (besides the X-men). That, paired with the relative attractiveness of the Marvel characters to Capcom's crack heads, and how all of the Marvel characters are either based off their movie depictions, or are characters who are going to have movies released (such as Captain Marvel at the time), created a very strong atmosphere of 'this is not a game for fans, but for advertising Disney movies', despite how much Capcom said otherwise. But also, Capcom officially stated we don't care about Magneto because we only want him for triangle jumps. 3) This is the second game in a row where they fucked up Chun Li's face, resulting in massive fan backlash. That, paired with this being the *third* dud in a row after how great SF4 was both competitively and just to play, really pissed off quite a few people. SFV survives on its competitive scene, and SF x Tekken was sort of "Dead on arrival" for having *pay to win* features and *day one, on disc, DLC* 4) The first official tournament for Infinite was so unbelievably bad that it basically killed any remaining good will for the game. It had a gimmick where you could use an out of game Stone power to give you an advantage in game. One of the powers is "Negate". The players didn't anonymously use their stones, they did it into a fucking microphone, so if the first player uses a negate, the second could just go "Naw, not using any of mine" and save them for later.

The developers of Marvel Versus Capcom: Infinite were pressed to promote the Marvel cinematic universe to the extent that they had to cut many iconic characters from the series' past. Imagine a Marvel Versus Capcom game without a single X-men character! Without Doctor Doom! And yet, for all the Disney money behind the project, it failed even as a cross-promotion: the game reviewed okay, but it sold poorly, was passed over by the fighting game community writ large (a few still play it), was passed over for EVO the year it came out, and only saw one DLC update that they probably only bothered with because it was already 80% done on release. In a way, the Easter egg Infinity stones are perfect. The MCU was a massive anchor tied around the game's neck from start to finish, and now a shitty piece of MCU tat is the only thing the game is remembered for.

That Chun Li statue reminded me of a friend of mine who cosplayed as her. But instead of using normal fabric for the outfit, she made it out of either PVC or some kind of sheet latex. It looked very oily and shiny, and *VERY* anime... like that statue!

Capcom made a real statement with the collector's edition of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. And that statement is, "Happy Easter!" I'm surprised they didn't throw some plastic grass and naff Palmer's chocolates into the box to complete the feel of springtime disappointment.

The paintjob is...acceptable, but yeah, it SHOULD have been better considering the price tag. Also, I just can't get over Mega Man X's bendy right leg. Is his armour supposed to be made of futuristic, elastic material or something? LOL With how much they're charging for these figures, I'd rather get the amiibos...not that I can get most of them in the first place, though, seeing how they're mostly out of stock.

When you opened the box, I've had my entire life flash before my eyes. I was genuinely expecting at least some sort of faceted effect on the minerals but when those plastic-looking eggs hit my retinas, I actually thought I was going to die.
