Closest thing I have to boutique is my Novo Serus J. It’s phenomenal and worth every dollar I paid for it.

As far as I am concerned, Boutique refers to the 'size' of the company NOT the quality of the workmanship. What makes a 'Great' guitar is the training and QC steps they put in place. The Stricter the QC, the, more consistent the end product is. Its that 'willingness' to put time into ensuring the instrument is at the required Quality to move on to the 'next' stage of the build - take time on the 'small' things, don't rush and be 'proud' of your work - whether you are part of a big team or individual.

My favorite guitar was built by Terry C McInturff. Terry is a North Carolina based luthier and makes some of the best instruments out there. When I got my McInturff Glory I sold my PRS the next day. Check him out.

Im with Derrick on the jam bands. Worst show opener for me was Moe opening for Gov't Mule. Moe played the same song for what seemed like 13 weeks. It was brutal! LOL

I lean towards boutique builder the mom and pop Guitar builder. There’s something about a story getting connect with the builder the quality of a guitar and knowing your moneys going to something to me, it’s more than a Guitar it’s it’s got a story from it start it’s not picked off a rack and some store, please don’t get me wrong I find some really nice Guitars out there I just like that local builder’s I also feel you get a better guitar for the quality of money

Topic suggestion: can you guys talk about how to turn any 25.5” guitar into a barritone? I’ve heard it can be done but I never heard any specifics about how to achieve it. Does one style guitar body work better than others? What kind of strings, setup, hard tail or not, etc.? And what the difference between converting a 25.5” vs buying an actual baritone? Would they sound different, play different, etc.? Thanks guys!

Fender masterbuilt guitars are partscasters also, built by team fender,, set necks like les pauls are a completely different beast, much more measurements needed, carved tops, neck angle, Gluing in?? fenders are flat and easy. My bolt on strats and teles are awesome and custom painted, i compare them with fender customshop yet dont charge boutique prices £1350.00 any colour, maple or rosewood - lightweight Ash or Alder,, what else do you need?? 🤷

You cool cats probably know this already, but the entire original Private Stock team from PRS works at Knaggs Guitars, with Joe. So between those 4-5 guys, you have well over hundred years of experience building the best guitars in the world, so of course Joe starts out immediately building some of the best guitars in the world. It’s for sure time and talent, but it also has to be wisdom, knowledge and passion-to make your own mark in the MI world, but do so with a level of excellence that only people with that kind of past and pedigree can produce.

I never look for Boutique guitars. If I want a Gibson or a Fender why would I buy a boutique copy? It makes no sense to me. If it was a different guitar body and their own thing then maybe but a lot just seem to be Les Paul, ES-335, Strat or Tele copies. Meh

Is the next level up is trying to match the guitar with the amp. to get your magic tone, instead of chasing that great guitar you still have to play it thru something. The amp is very underrated compared to the guitar itself. Just my very humble opinion. Have a great day, stay safe and remember, Putin sucks.

One that actually delivers your guitar …. I won’t say who but I placed an order with a builder put down a $1000 deposit on a $3800 guitar was told 6 months well a year and a half later still no guitar and he finally he sent my deposit back at least and said he couldn’t get it done … which sucks cause I wasted a year and a half that I could have ordered from some where else and maybe would have my guitar by now….

I am seeing comments that boutique builders should be ignored. I can somewhat agree relative to resale if you are at a certain income bracket; however, once money isn't an issue anymore, you tend to want something a little different and higher quality than what everyone else has from a rack. To ignore boutique builders because they don't have better skill is an ignorant position if you understand math. Some of the best restaurants you will ever walk into are not in any way a chain. These are restaurants where the chef is the owner. Same as boutiques. An example would be Knaggs. Joe was the previous manager of Private Stock at PRS. His guitars are incredible. If Paul Miles Left PRS, he would be in the same boat (able to write his own checks $$$$$). Once you are no longer worried about resale and you want something different than the big 3-4, then you will pay up for superior craftsmanship. Oh, and there is no competition for PRS's reliability..... I have been a PRS owner/player since 1999. I have NEVER purchased one from a store, and I have never owned anything other than a core model or better.

TIVO is still is a thing. It is also vastly superior to any DVR, and is basically a live Blue Ray of sorts, with the ability to tie a mountain of information to anything you watch, down to the actors, where they came from, what they do now... basically, it's evolved itself further than its initial use to a State the other guys should think about, and will, when TIVO fails entirely due to terrible marketing.

Unfortunately dieing seems to be a thing. In music industry. 🥃👍Respect.

Remember the great classic guitars were built by house wives who had no guitar making skills so if you think about it a 400 dollar production guitar with good sounding pickups will be a great ax.

I'm sure that the builders you work with are wonderful. But, there are hundreds if not thousands across the US, and then you have to tip your hat to all those in the UK, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Often, one is favored over another simply because they are the flavor of the month; hype and marketing.

If I was a lot better player , I’d consider a master built. But , the law of diminishing returns is definitely at play here . Master built guitars should be in the hands of Master players . Not because you can afford it . Yes , I know I’m in the minority! ☠️☠️☠️🖖🏼

You only need investigate how far they actually manufacture their guitars, or if they order blanks and parts from common places, they are not truly Boutique to me, like NASH. That's not true boutique, it's half the work done before he make a single change... many are like this in reality.

When you in a Cult it's hard to see that you are in a Cult . Boutique instruments are somewhat of a Cult.

Come on really how hard is it to make an electric guitar body it’s fairly low level wood working skills . Neck it takes more Precision that can be done with enough patients but really guys anybody with a third grade woodworking skill can build An electric guitar. An acoustic guitar is a little different they actually need some skill but it’s still not very hard to pay thousands of dollars for someone to put together a guitar because they build some guitar for some rockstar. I’m not doing it.Ill get the parts and have the same or better quality guitar than some master builder.
