Special episode Talking about the New Tau leaks and why I think leaks are bad and cause lots of negativity in the community. I will aim to put a positive spin on things and showcase why we should be excited for our new codex.

I actually saw that you caught some of that negative Vibe when you popped into the Kroot Discord, and I just wanted you to know that the vast majority of us are really happy with the Codex and agree with you that they are going to be fun and potentially very powerful.

Yeah but I'm used to it and honestly it doesn't bother me because forever 100 negative comments makes the positive ones stand out more 👊🏻. We are going to have some super powerful and fun combinations

While the new wording on the Kauyon rule means you can't split fire and benefit from Sustained Hits 2 anymore, it seems to allow the Observer to gain Sustained Hits 2 in addition to the Guided unit now. FTGG: "Then select one enemy unit that is visible to both your units to be their Spotted unit." Pathfinder Target Uploaded ability: "Once per turn, when using the Greater Good ability, you can select this unit to be an Observer unit for a second time. When doing so, you can change which enemy unit is this unit’s Spotted unit." Kauyon: "From the third battle round onwards, ranged weapons equipped by T'au Empire models from your army have the [Sustained Hits 1] ability, or the [Sustained Hits 2] ability instead while targeting their unit's Spotted unit." Spotted units are shared by both the Observing and Guided unit which we see in the Pathfinder rule, "their" would mean the Observer gets the benefit too.

That was my interpretation as well. Your guided unit do not get to split fire with Sustained Hits 2 anymore, but instead you get an entire extra unit that benefits from it against your chosen target. That makes your supportive units much better overall. It makes the "Coordinate to Engage" stratagem much better.

So lets say i make my stealth suits spot a target for another stealth team, do both get the benefit? And is this trough a stratagem?

@@michelecastellotti9172 The Kauyon detachment rule in the codex says that you get sustained hits 2 against "their spotted unit". The Spotted unit(enemy) is in relation to the Observer and Guided unit combo, so both should get the benefit now. The old Kauyon rule gave Sustained hits 2 to the Guided Unit(meaning it also worked if splitting fire). That is no longer the case.

I think this is 100% intentional as it truly means the 2 units are working in pairs to eliminate 1 threat.

Even if we only get these 4 detachments, they are 4 really cool and well defined ones, each with their own interesting tricks. Kauyon has so much redeployment now, and its Observers during Kauyon can get Sustained hits 2 against the Spotted target. Mont'ka enhancement "Strike Swiftly" allowing you to give 2 units a 6" scout move can lead to all kinds of weird and funny situations. Retaliation Cadre can take a 6 model Stealth Battlesuit unit and suicide them into a heavy melee threat, then when 5-6 of them are killed in the fight phase, blow them up with the "Fail-safe Detonator" for potentially 6d3 mortal wounds. The Kroot Hunting Pack can do all kinds of weird and wonderful things with their Kroot units, and will probably take a lot of opponents by surprise when you mix and match the right units. You did not mention them here(I think), but I also really like the new Strike Teams. Giving -1 to hit to an enemy infantry model until the start of your next turn is a very nice supportive ability. It makes the enemy shooting and melee from infantry units a fair bit less threatening.

The sun forge could probably go up to 180 and still be good, but the fireknife suit does not need a points increase, if anything it needs to go down 10-15 points for me to consider taking them.

So So Glad I joined your channel and discord. I was vibing this mind set when I saw some of the Leeks 🤪 . literally said , these changes would give us new things to play with, and I fell in love with the Kroot Aesthetic as soon as I saw them! mind you I have not played since 2nd edition so all the models look SO amazing now! and after this video if i can work it into my budget I am so on board the Puretide Program. Love love your mind set man!

Same here. My first reaction seeing these was "Wow, this looks like a great codex, thank goodness, I was worried that it was going to be mediocre like Dark Angels". Then I went to the internet and everyone was crying about the weirdest things and I was left like the Pikachu meme "???"

It's not a great codex though. Units in it were ignored like riptides and they removed all buy 3 special characters.

@@michelecastellotti9172 Like being pressed about only having 4 detachments instead of 5 or 6 or 10, when in reality out of those 5, 6 or 10, one or two are the only ones being used. At least in the Tau codex I see all 4 of them being used, depending on the person's playstyle. Kauyon is probably the worst for most people but experts can melt you with it, Kroot is for people who like Kroot, and the other two are generally very good. I always found the options for options sake both bad design and weird in the sense of how many people have such an emotional attachment to them. Most detachments are distinctions without differences. They are doing basically the same thing with two different names. The four detachments of Tau are the four ways in which Tau want to play: Alpha strike, late game, battle suits focus, and Kroot. I think that a detachment focused on vehicles would have been a mistake, because WH40k is not a game design around it (that is also why I dislike the general design of Knights and I think that having them as separate factions is a mistake, but whatever). Beyond that, I do not see anything else that could have been meaningfully added.

@@derekbutts2660Not sure what you mean by "ignored" since Riptides are still very good (the points, as mentioned multiple times, are most likely wrong as these books ahve been printing 6 months ago), and I do not give a damn about all those special characters, honestly. Never used them, never cared for them. I am sorry if you had any special attachment to any of them, but that is not my case.

@JackDespero riptides are good because they are 165 points. They arnt good because the unit is powerful. Riptides have been good at 250 before. They are good now because they are a cheap Stat line buffed by rerolls from stuff not because the unit is good. That is bad design straight up. Making things as cheap as possible till finally they are good is not a good balancing tool.

People collect armies wrong because GeeDub teaches them to collect armies wrong. GeeDub wants to sell you overpriced models, and kindly want you to fuck off out of their stores, until you want to buy more over priced models. The game and lore is all secondary, ancillary shit they can turn a profit on. You should never have more than three of any given kit. Yes, even battleline/troops, because that can change. Blood Angels back in 5th edition could take assault marines as troops, and if you took them without the jump pack they got a discount on their transport. Crisis suits were “battleline/troops” with the Enclave supplement in 7th (that was *my* personal fucky wucky) And Dark Angels have often been punked over that (the Wing players) but they don’t learn too good.

There really isn't more detachments you can add that isn't covered by the others. I would love a gue'vesa one though.

No there is only 4 detachments, the leaked points only showed 4 with a proper complete border around those 4 so no more left out I feel all our detachments are 100% useful though and will just need building around. Im sure our points cost will be very similar to current index now except for the new units and maybe stealthsuits cost more seeing as they got buffed

My problem with the leaks is the lack of changes to units that needed it not just points changed. Riptides needed a face lift not to be 165 points they are really gonna let a new book come out and let them stay as is? They aren't bad they just aren't playing the way the unit should. There are multiple units like that the army is extremely stripped down from the 9th book just on units level it feels. Farsight losing his combat ability for something that no longer works is real bad too.

Again, this book could have been printed 6 months ago. A lot of what is inside could have changed already, and we would have to see on actual release what everything actually ends up being. At best, this is a preview of the intended rules and playstyles.

Agreed. Not adding the forge world riptides and changing them so they are not complete shit would have been a good move. Made the XV9 a new unit instead of a dead unit sucks as well. Being negative is fair when things are shit FYI instead of defending something because you “love the faction” part of enjoying something you love is not watching it get dumped on

@@derekbutts2660 The point is, you are getting upset about changes we are not really sure are 100% implemented yet. 165 pts for a Riptide in is current iteration is great. If it gets changed to 245 pts(as some say), then it has to have changed its special rules, because the 165 pts is a fairly recent thing. If the 245 pts stay, it would indicate a siginificant rule/load out change(similar to how Crisis Suits have changed).

Its not the leaks that are bad, its the misbehaving, ignorant children who dont understand the game who are whincing and crying that are bad. Its just the childish members of the community, who sadly do exist. Anybody with a functioning brain and baseline game knowledge would know to wait til we have all the information available to try and determine how strong the army is. Only kids do all the reactionary crying, as kids do. I dont care if that dude is 38 and 6 foot 2, he's a child if hes behaving this way. People just dont want to do the simple leg work to come to simple conclusions, they just want everything hand delivered and explained to them quickly and simply so they can adopt someone elses opinion as their own. Its sad and explains the political volatility of intellectually lazy people living under a democracy. People should aim to be better than themselves at all times. Its how we grow as a person. That being said, I'm glad for the leaks, sort of, because now I have to go through the pain of cutting off my Coldstar's extra CIB's now instead of later. It also stopped me from gluing up any Crisis Suits without magnetizing the weapons first. Magnets are a T'au commanders best friend!
