COUNT 8: Hiding a Corpse
A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

I can’t believe he got away with his lies and deception for so long without being caught, he is so easy to read which makes me believe his parents had most likely known for awhile what was going on but was trying to give him a chance to straighten up and make things right.

It appears the alleged was actually trying to frame his(ex)girlfriends mother and fiancé for the murder of his parents. He mentions how Dulce dislikes his parents during his interview. Dumps his fathers torso on their property, along with the murder weapon, and the tools for dismemberment. Prayers and healing for the families affected by this disgusting human being. Rest In Peace Burt and Krista.

If I knew NOTHING about this case, watching his "interview" would immediately make me suspicious. Details people… it’s in the DETAILS!! People who are typically guilty of something paint tooooo much of a picture. What *exactly* his dad did even though he wasn’t there to actually see it (calls & emails), the temp of the grill for cooking hamburgers, color of tools his dad packed, where his comp was at while using it, adding in he brushed his teeth, the moment he saw the note - all without being prompted. Even when giving a detailed version of your day… no one goes into this type of detail unless they're trying to "prove" they didn’t do something. Goes for murders & even cheating spouses. 🤷‍♀️🤓

This is EXACTLY what I said @Lolly! Chandler was giving TOO MANY DETAILS! No one cares what the temp of the grill was when his dad was allegedly "cooking"! 🤦🏾‍♀️ Smh No one cares about Chandler cooking "shrimpless" Shrimp Scampi (isn't that just pasta then??? 🙄🙄🙄)! Smh. I bet these detectives were HOT bc at the time of the interrogation, his dad's torso had already been found, and Chandler is the one spotted by Jill DeStefano as he's coming in & out of a wooded area.🤔 Ur parents are "missing" & u're hanging out in the woods, only to later be discovered that this SAME WOODED AREA contains ur missing dad's DECOMPOSED, DECAPITATED, DISMEMBERED torso!! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to suspect that "something" DEFINITELY smells fishy here. 🤔 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Right! I picked up on several comments regarding this. "TV not allowed upstairs" "He doesnt talk when he eats" It's not always subtle, but he kind of throws it in there as an after thought. This is something killers do to their victims all the time. They try to demonize the victim. Whereas, most humans will feel some type of way speaking ill of the dead - especially soon after they're gone. (I know Bart isn't known to be dead at this time, but Chandler knows.)

First of all, it was not an interrogation at this point he was not under arrest he could have walked out at any time. What you want to focus on is the gf interview. she shows signs of guilt from the start. She completely freaked out on the stand talking about the ride in the police car and interview and after the attorney said she threw up and cried when she got to the police station, and she admitted that..just shows more terror in being exposed to being involved in some of it. An innocent person would be eager to go to the police station and answer any and all questions in the hope to help. Not freak out and throw up. That doesn't add up. And they never told her about anything at that point, only kindly asking questions. But we weren't there and may never know. It's very suspicious that they aren't releasing her police interview. Try thinking before you post, better than showing your ignorance.

@Stephen Eurosailor This girl had been lied to the entire time she was with the defendant. Her behavior is not at all suspect when you consider the amount of pain and stress she felt as she realized everything that she thought wasn't as it seemed. I can't imagine how sick she felt as she came to this realization. Perhaps you should think before you post as well.

@@kam0406 Agreed. She loved his parents, and they treated her like a member of the family. The idea that he butchered them, and that she was alone with him at the house with their bodies in the basement would haunt anyone. She's going to be messed up for a long time. Anyway, there is zero evidence she had anything to do with the killings. Literally nothing points to her but misogyny and fantasy of some of the commenters here. Considering how much evidence the police ended up having, including the 24-hour video surveillance (and her cooperation), it makes it very unlikely she could have been a knowing accomplice without the police being aware of it. And if they were, it would be in the public record.

@@kam0406 I agree with you wholeheartedly. I never saw anything in Cat that made me think she was guilty. What I saw was a young woman who had just had her world turned upside down and she was filled with grief and horror. She had to be remembering all the times she had been alone with this monster and now she learns how he has butchered his own parents and she is also probably thinking of the recent night she spent with Chandler while the bodies of his dismembered parents were under the same roof. If that wouldn't cause someone to throw up I don't know what would. She also felt a lot of grief because, unlike Chandler who certainly seemed to hold his father at least, in contempt and never missed an opportunity to try to make Bart look bad, Cat actually liked the Haldersons and all of her comments about them were positive. And Cat's not the one who has been feeding Bart and Krista nothing but lies for the past year. I don't know where anyone would get the idea that Cat had ANYTHING to do with these horrible acts.

I first saw the interview on the Crime Circus channel (if you guys are into true crime, he's got some really great, interesting interrogations and interviews on there) and I found it a bit boring because I didn't know much about the back story. It's way more interesting now having watched the trial up to this point so far. I cannot imagine how this guy will get out of a guilty charge for 1st degree intentional homicide and get life in prison. Does Wisconsin have the death penalty? I mean chopping up your loving, supportive parents...that's up there with things that could get you the death penalty, no? I'm impressed with how composed and kind Detective Shunk was able to be here, knowing that not only are the parents both dead, but they've only found a torso at this point. He's sitting across from an absolute psychopath and he's just like "Oh, cool..." "What'd you have for dinner that night?" "Cool, nice!" Amazing composure... The only thing he's right about is that The Green Egg makes food taste pretty gross, except for traditionally smoky stuff.

Chandler seemed to think that this detective was his friend; I find the way he is speaking to the detective, questioning him over and over about the police presence as disrespectful. His parents were "missing" and it seems that he feels threatened by the police presence around his house... that is a classic "Tell me you're guilty, without telling me you're guilty." If he had nothing to do with his parents being "missing"; normally people would go outside and talk to the officers.

You can 100% hear the paranoia and fear in his voice asking “is something going on……that we need to know about?” I guarantee he is all but pooping himself in the moment he noticed cops posting up outside his house. I just don’t understand what made him feel like he could commit this crime and not get caught. I’m sure in his mind he thought he cleaned up the evidence well but boy oh boy was he wrong. Every testimony/new evidence we hear is more damning than the previous and it just keeps coming. This is my 2nd time watching this trial (I know I’m weird). His defense was HORRIBLE. Really thinking about it what even is his defense here? They give no reason, no idea, no clue as to why he did this. They basically just said in opening statements that “He didn’t murder his parents”. I figured at what lengths he went to to fool his parents he would have at least come up with something. It kinda surprises me that he didn’t plead guilty just to keep all his lies from unraveling to everyone he knew. I know some details would have been rumored but going through a trial puts his entire life and all the lies under a gigantic microscope. Every little detail came out revealing what a POS he really was behind the façade he created. Kinda shocking he would let it all out that way.
@ErinJeanette

You're not weird I have watched it several times too!! The opening statement alone is beautiful haha. Anyways... He could have just put as much effort into a real life as a fake one and been fine. You know, whenever I watch trials (even after the fact and knowing the verdict), I try to go in with a truly open mind. No matter what I may have heard or what my inclination is, I try to be open to having the defense convince me of the defendant’s innocence, or seeing holes in the prosecution’s case. I’m having a really hard time doing that in this case. The prosecution hasn’t even put on the most damning evidence, and yet I genuinely cannot see any other explanation than the one put forth. The defense has not objected at times where I feel they should. It’s strange that they ask to approach at nearly every objection. I wonder if they’re hoping to have his conviction overturned on the basis of incompetent defense. As I sit here, I wonder why he didn’t try to plea out. I can’t see how he thought he’d be acquitted. I wonder if he’s hoping the conviction will be overturned and he’ll be in a better position to negotiate for a plea deal so the state doesn’t have to try him again.

I read somewhere else that the minimum sentence for murder in his state is life in prison. So any plea would still be life in prison. So he had nothing to lose if he went to trial and lost but a lot to gain if he could get off on a technicality or something hence the trial.
@TheWifeRottenRomance
@TheWifeRottenRomance 11 ай бұрын
@@nyangweso that’s sort of accurate in that the mandatory minimum at conviction is life without parole. But plea deals give leeway. There have been other pleas that allow for parole after a certain number of years (usually 30). Halderson was 23. Even if they’d offered him 30 per murder, he’d have had a chance of release assuming he lived long enough. Now he has no chance unless he gets his conviction overturned. Given how useless his attorneys actually were, I suspect their intent was to have it overturned on grounds of ineffective counsel, which would give him another chance to try for a plea. If it was the prosecutor unwilling to offer one (possible given the surety of his conviction), they might be inclined to if the other choice is to spend the money on another trial.

It's amazing how difficult it seems to be for these supposedly well-educated professional people to follow simple instructions. Detective Allen was told to "look at all these pictures and DESCRIBE THEM AS A GROUP" and she proceeds to describe each picture individually. She is certainly not the only one who did this because I noticed many witnesses in this trial were given the same instructions and did exactly what she did. I remember taking a test once and Number 1 said, "Read ALL questions before you answer any of them" and then Number 2 said, "Put your name in the right-hand corner". Number 3 said, "Circle the 5 in the Number 15". Number 4 said "Make a small fold to the bottom left-hand corner of this paper". Number 5 said, "Underline the word "Circle in Number 3" and it went on and on like that and you could see people busily folding and underscoring and circling and then they came to the very last question and Number 20 said, "Ignore all of the instructions on Numbers 3 thru 19 and follow the instructions ONLY on Number 1, Number 2 and Number 20." so basically all we were supposed to do was read all the questions and put our name on the paper and that was all. All the other instructions were canceled by the instructions on Number 20. I have no doubt that taking that test made me more aware of how much a lot of people cannot follow the most basic directions.

The cross-examiner sounds like bad text-to-speech at the beginning.

I think Chandler put his father's remains on the property, to try and make it out that the ladies are to take the blame.

Ugh the way he said we did our own thing on Weds night gave dad his space. I did some cleaning and laundry. Yeah I just bet you did cleaning evidence! His words and body language reminds me of Chris Watts during this and at the end of the 2nd part of this interview. Unnecessary detail, hands on his head, mouth hardly moving, looking down or towards the door. Little bug got caught in his web of lies!
