I LOVE this captain and his announcements. Hope he had a good career after Monarch folded with one of the other airlines. “It wasn’t too bad on the way in for those of you who don’t like this sort of thing”.

It’s called TOGA…fairly common in windy conditions especially if it’s a crosswind landing

Why do these airline companies always stick passengers who are filming near the wings, it happened to me too, I flew with Flybe to France from Southend and thought about filming the whole flight, but there and back home we were right next to the wing, shame. Thanks for sharing

What makes you qualified to be all critical of the pilot? Wind can change at the last second and a go around was the right option. Pilots can't control the weather and aren't going to press on with a dangerous landing and put everyone at risk, as they shouldn't. What if a pilot didn't go around not to piss off armchair critics like you and then they crashed and everyone died? That's why you take no chances and go around if anything even could be wrong with the approach

My first flight some 50 years ago was from Southend to Amsterdam or Rotterdam on a Channel Airways Viscount, before Covid flew to Amsterdam twice with Easyjet and to Krakow with Flybe, with Easyjet starting summer services from SEN in April it would be brilliant if SEN could attract more airlines and new routes unfortunately unless they can it has a very bleak future, which is a great shame as its a brilliant regional airport.

Welcome to Float City! - Excellent decision by the pilots, no misjudgment here.

I was on a plane that did a go around once, due to the runway being too snowy to satisfy the pilot. Aside from the obvious WTF moment, it was nice to hear that takeoff power engine roar two times at a price of one.

There are a few reasons why the climb-out would have seemed particularly impressive that day. Firstly, the stonking headwind. Wind speed generally increases with altitude, as the friction with the earth’s surface diminishes. Climbing into an increasing headwind will result in a greater angle of climb. Secondly, the runway at Luton is on the shorter side and you departed from the intersection at taxiway alpha. This would have required a higher engine rating and depending on the crosswind component, might have precluded the use of reduced thrust. Lastly, the runway at Luton is on a hill; terrain falls away quite rapidly at the westerly end of the runway.
