4:13 I would assume this had to do with the last part of Doctor Reinhardt's goal. In, through, and BEYOND. The probe ship was a better craft to make it through the black hole, but it's small, can't hold many supplies and likely had limited range. With the Cygnus he had a base with near limitless endurance from which to explore the worlds on the other side. With the probe ship, well unless there's a habitable world pretty close by where the ship emerges it is very likely doomed at the end of the movie.

6:56 Maybe if there’s a remote spacecraft that’s equipped with the debris shield several kilometers ahead of the ISV deployed while the main ship is in its acceleration/deceleration phase the whole journey be covered.

The design of this ship is PERFECT. But I have one note. Why not to turn the antimatter engines nozzles back away from the crew modules? The plasma and radiation will be directed behind the ship, far away from the crew modules. Even though they have some radiation shielding, they would not save the people inside because of the MASSIVE amount of radiation caused by the engines. Also the crew would be literally cooked inside of them due to extreme heat of plasma plumes

Almost sounds like The Neverending Story sound track running in the background. Will have to consider doing a video soundtrack using The Neverending Story music or the Das Boot sound track.

So, you would go through a Black Hole or a Wormhole with a small probe probe ship and no idea if you can return the same way? On the off-chance that there is a habitable planet in range where you can find food? Unless the Cygnus takes critical damaged, she can be repaired and is self-sufficient. If she is damaged beyond repair, then you should still be able to repair the probe ship and look for a place to settle down. Even then there is a chance that you could return to the Cygnus with mined materials and do repairs. But if you get stuck with the probe ship your options are very limited.

Maybe the intakes at the front are used for gas coolection. They could lead directly into the interior and obviously be sealable.

I'm pretty sure the scramjets are the same engines as the turbojets, as hybrid engines like that are a thing, something like how the engines on the Darkstar from Top Gun: Maverick worked, and Turboramjet engines like the J-58 engines of the SR-71 operated on a similar principle, above a certain speed you just open a diverter to bypass the compressor and you effectively have a scramjet

I will forever be sad that we never got a Cylon Campaign for Deadlock. Giving us players the chance to make proper use of ships like the Arachne would've been great. I mean, sure, there's Skirmish and Multiplayer but... it's just not the same... Also, that opening was fantastic, well done!

Ladies and Gentlemen and all those beyond and inbetween, the BEST Colonial ship in the First Cylon War. I don't care what anyone says, the Adamant is functionally the best. Early game, mid, late, doesn't matter, 2 or 3 of these badboys can function in almost any circumstance. Fitting, then, that it contains the name of the best military officer in Colonial history. Can't spell Adamant without Adama.

The fact that they were able to step outside the Cygnus seems to suggest that she not only could generate a field of anti gravity and artificial gravity, but also a pressurized bubble, which gives you a little more insight to just how advanced she was, or could be another one of the technologies Reinhardt invented. Likely the former, as Reinhardt clearly has no regard for the well being of the former crew should maintenance be needed outside, but of course, they'd be difficult to replace too.

Actually, we do see the particle beams in action during the attack on the underside of the Ko-Dan vessel. You use the clip of it at 1:00 or thereabouts. In fact, pause at 1:02 and you see the weapons fire and many fans get mixed up thinking they are the lasers when the angle of shot suggests otherwise

Brilliant movie rendering. But if anyone thinks to use the ship as a template in say an engineering materials undergraduate course, you will become equated with many issues. E.g a rotating habitat needs to also have low rotation to minimise serious vestibular 4:21 problems. This means 200m radius at least and less than 2rpm. Etc etc. A great exercise for students.

The big holes in the movie's realism and that the physics aren't as accurate as in Interstellar is clear. It's not a bad movie at all, and pretty much the most underrated movie I know. It's music is iconic, almost all the sacrifices / deaths are well written and make the viewer understand how important that mission is. The Icarus' design is genius and mostly realistic(the composition of the heatshield is seemingly out of a unknown material, since no metal or material can withstand the sun's heat at such a close range), with great details such as the wings on the second heat shield burning away. The writers made the protagonists obsessed by the sun and it's beauty. They made the humanity look small and vulnerable, pointing out the human misstakes which the crew makes as the movie continues. The human mind and it's irrational choices are our greatest blessing but still our greatest curse. A con is that many important scenes have a lot going on in the background. You will have to watch the movie 2-3 times to fully understand it. Sadly the movie loses it's edge if you watch it a second time. I rate the movie with a 8.5 out of 10

I know that the heat shields were made out of a golden reflective material. It doesn’t absorb the heat, but reflects it instead.

A VTOL SSTO is something we all really need, not reusable rockets. If Aeronautic companies want to really do something about cheap Earth to Low Earth Orbit transportation they be developing SkyHooks and smaller shuttles like that Virgin Spaceship instead of reusable rockets.
