This shows you a option on a big block chevy when you have no provision on your water pump for the bypass hose , such as when using a electric water pump . Has always worked for me.

You are 100% @ 1:35 about the Thermostat " Burp Hole / Fail Safe Hole ". A lot of People buying cheap Thermostat and they DO NOT have that " Hole " in there. We keep getting Water around the Water Pump and that lead me to discovery after 6+ Months of head scratching :((((. My Dad was going to buy a new Water Pump... But to my surprised after Months of researching on my own, that a 1/8" of an inch Hole will save sooooooo many Water Pumps out there. I also made a Video on that to warn People through my experience.

Can you do this with a stock waterpump? Belt driven? Run the hose to radiator?

I took my heater core out. Can I run the one heater hose from the top of the intake to the top port on the radiator like you say and also have the 90 degree bypass or both not necessary? I’m running a 4 core aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans. I mean I’d rather just have the small 90 bypass and drill the two holes in the thermostat rather than having that long hose from the top of the intake to the radiator....thoughts?

Hello, My 454 7.4 Vortec has a bypass similar to yours. It looks to me that it doesn't do much of anything except rotate water bypassing the thermostat. I have an electric fan sensor in the other port and was wondering if I could remove the bypass with no ill effects to the motor. I'm pretty sure someone bypassed it this way due to the motor running hot but I have since fixed that. My motor doesn't look anything like yours, It's a beauty. Thanks, Joe

that bypass hose from the intake back into water pump sole purpose is to recirculate coolant so the engine warms up quicker nothing more . a lot of guys plug it .

@@backyardbuilttrucks1 I did plug it and the air conditioner has never worked better in south Florida. I guess it likes the warmer engine. The thermostat is actually accurate and my electric fan relay comes on exactly at 210 and shuts of exactly at 195. I've been looking at this problem for literally years, Everything was off, everything. It was throwing codes too. I have all three fans wired into a relay to come on when the A/C comes on. I think the bypass was actually cooling the motor with the electric fans running because it would throw a fuel code. Sorry cant remember which one. I think what was happening was the computer was reading a cool motor and flooding the motor with fuel thus throwing the code. With the bypass removed this is not happening!! Thanks very much!!!! I'm glad i stumbled across your page. Joe PS, sorry if that doesn't make any sense but that's whats going on.

How does that help the motor why would you short circuit the coolants path through the radiator.

Mark Magalis All it does is re-circulate hot coolant back to engine to warm it up quicker in cold weather . I take off water pump and put to cold side of radiator .

Okay so you are bypassing the t-stat. why don't you just remove the T-stat or drill a couple of hole in it 1/4" or so. If coolant from the motor is going to radiator then back the engine will take forever to warm up. even if you drill A small say 1/8 hole in the t-stat the engine will run cool. I have a BBC 427 with a 1/8" hole drilled in to my T-stat takes 20 min. to reach 180. So again why not just remove the T/stat?
