Less stupid than really cheap-you can get Peter Cushing for under two days on one or two sets, then advertise he's in your movie, which costs a lot less than Peter Cushing being in your entire movie and actually doing stuff.

Great episode as always! BTW: "Spanish John Belushi" is actually Paul Naschy, Spain's answer to Lon Chaney Jr. & Christopher Lee. He starred in a whole series of groovy '70s werewolf movies featuring the character of Waldemar Daninsky (WEREWOLF VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMAN, NIGHT OF THE HOWLING BEAST, etc.).

Believe it or not, Brandon, this film is based on a Jules Verne novel, albeit not a very well known one. Entitled Godfrey Morgan, it tells basically the same story that this film does, with the absence of monsters (I guess they figured adding monsters would work as well as Mysterious Island). Another funny thing: in the novel, Artelett is just as annoying, often being called Tartlet xD

A man's gotta eat. Actually all the horrormovies he was in were "low-brow" , but they paid the bills. Him and Christopher Lee were a team for many years. They were both fans of and acting icons of Gothic Horror. Watch some more movies with them two, they are times you can tell they are really enjoying themselves even in some of the sillest roles.

According to the commentary on the DVD of SHOCK WAVES, Peter Cushing's price was $3000.00 for a couple days work. Believe it or not, there was a time when just having his or Christopher Lee's name in a film brought people into the theater. He earned his $3000.00 for this film

I'm a bit late here - 5 years! - but in case anyone hasn't pointed this out elsewhere in the comments - this film IS based on a Jules Verne novel. It's called 'L'École des Robinsons’ known in English as ‘The Family of Robinsons’ and sometimes as ‘Godfrey Morgan.’ The film is actually pretty faithful to the book but it’s definitely one of Verne’s minor works and not really worth your time. And yes, Professor Artelett is annoying in the book…but not this annoying! Sadly, the ‘wacky comic foreigner’ was a standard Verne trope.
@billhiers4171
@billhiers4171 8 жыл бұрын
Y'know, Ardilect is pretty annoying, but I still find him more sympathetic than Jeff. Uncle Tarkin (from what I can tell) forced him to go with his nephew. Why? He's a dance instructor. He's completely out of his element, untrained and with someone that he hates and who hates him back. I'd say he has a lot to justifiably complain about and be terrified of.

9:40 Something very ironic about the European idea of Africans and other non whites being cannibal. I don't know if other Africans had this idea but apparently people in Congo believed Europeans were cannibals. Mind you it is quite understandable as Force Publique used to bring severed hands to Belgian authorities to prove every bullet they had spend had indeed killed a human. Locals believed Belgians actually ate the hands.

It's really a good thing the shipwrecked bunglers were inept. Guns can be made to shoot blanks, but if the 'survivors' made spears, punji pit traps, and other edged weapons and knew how to use them, there could have been some serious injury or death. Also explosions.. the pressure wave would have killed them and if not, the shrapnel would have.
