4 game-changing changes for HP Omen Nvidia 30 series cards.
0:00 Card teardown and summary of problems

These mods took my HP OEM from 92mh/s @ 108C mem junction to 101.5mh at 96C mem junction and massively reduced noise. Post any other mods you've done to these HP cards in the comments! Hope this helps.

Greta video!! I used the #1 solution alone and decreased the Memory temperature from 106 to 84 °C in the same conditions, no thermal pad needed for me. I Will probably replace the fans. Thank you!!

Just as a note for someone else that might try it, the 3070 has a reference pcb design but the memory voltage conversion is populated differently and there's a choke that sticks up and blocks installing an EK waterblock. I'm an animal so I jumpered the choke off the board and made the block fit, it might be bypassable but I didn't want to take the time to find out.

Exact same machine. Went from 78Mh/s @110 C to 90Mh/s @98 C. Thanks bro. I just did the thermal paste, did not want to separate the board as it was sticking. Also applied pads to the inside of the backplate that touched VRAM and replaced the fans. Total time- 45 mins.

@@lok777 Im thinking to buy a desktop for me. I hv two option in my mind Asus rog g35 and Hp omen 30l. Both RTX 3080. Asus seems has good motherboard and GPU probably wont be as loud as HP. I need little quiet setup. But asus 800$ more expensive. I hv ambient temp 20 c. Thinking a lot. Bro, Which one u would suggest for me?

@@alexfren8791 I do not have any experience with the ROG so I can not say which is better, but I really like the omen. It is well built, and performance is good. I have taken it apart and everything is standard and replaceable, for a premade it is really nice, I like it a lot.

This was super helpful. Thank you. You are critically undervalued on KZfaq. Can you answer one more question I have? Is there no way to pop a 4k60 PRO capture card? I read there was an extra PCIe slot in the HP forums but can't for the life of me find another slot other than the GPU slot? Do I need to set up an old PC with the capture card (as a streaming PC) to use an internal capture card with the 30L?

No, the included board only has 1 pcie 4x16 slot - the one the GPU is in. I actually am using this PC as a HTPC now, and wanted digital audio output, so I went and bought another z490 motherboard. You would have to do the same if you wanted to add in a pcie capture card. The case only supports mATX - but all the connectors are standard so you shouldn't have a hard time swapping it out. Assistance needed, kind sir. I've done everything but pulling GPU shroud and using new fans. Great results but still need a little more on temp reduction.... Question: did you use any kind of rubber strips (etc) between the new fans and the GPU cooling array?(vibration noise, etc) The fans I intend on using have their own rubber corners, but looking for ideas for the rest of the contact area. Many thanks in advance!

I used the motherboard connector because I just blast them at like 80% all the time (it's very quiet for me). You can use the PCB to plug them in but you'll need a converter - I don't think the regular fan headers will fit on to the PCB connector. You can see the fan header on the PCB at 2:26. It's one of the 4-pin connectors at the far left of the card, just to the top and bottom of the die (vertically).

Hey! Thanks for the video. I have bought the same model with 3080 as well and just today I noticed that the temps were going high. Another user in this comment box also suggested "Frosty Thermal Pads 12.8W/mk", which is a lot cheaper than what I posted. I will be trying those next time I do a re-pad.

Hiya! So I've done all the mods listed above and I think I used a decent amount of paste and did a good job of adding thermal pads as well as strapping two Noctua A12x25s but my GPU core (3080 Ti) is still hitting 94 degrees C (Mem at 104 C and Hotspot at 102.7 C with idle at 40 C Core | 44 C Mem | 44.5 C Hotspot) in furmark and then throttles the GPU usage down to 75%. I know this is necro'ing your video, just wanted to see if there was a difference between the mining application and Furmark. I'm still in the return period so I'm considering returning it if it still throttles this much even with all the above modifications. The only plausible thought is that even with the deshroud, there's no airflow for the cards since the front fan barely pulls in any air. Again, sorry for the necro, and thanks in advance if you have any ideas/input!

That's too hot. If you're still in return period and are sure all steps are done correctly I would return it, especially since it's a pretty terrible option with 30 series availability these days.

What if we remove the whole front panel of omen 30L and put a table fans these or if we remove the glass panel and put that fan there would not it solve all the problems? Mainly it is bad case right?

The case is bad, yes. However, that's not the focus of the video, nor is it a realistic solution in most situations.

@jdlancaster13 have you tried water cooling it? I bought one a year ago, along with a new mobo and case and transplanted everything. Been happy with it so far... repasted the 3080. Thinking about water cooling the GPU now. Upgraded CPU cooler to NH-D15 so I'm good there... just need a better solution for GPU.

Honestly I wouldn’t just because of how hard it is to get a water cooled rig set up. The deshroud mod makes the temps perfectly good if you’re ok with a bit of noise under load. It is a reference pcb though if you choose to watercool.

I just got my Omen 30L with 3080 built late December. It looks like HP is doing all these mods in their new build. I see thermal pads on the backplate against the memory and thermal paste on the heat pipes.

@@jdlancaster1357 I was thinking HP got some tips from your video lol I did do your 120mm fan mod. I only use it to play games. I tried to mine a little bit, but it's LHR and locks all the time.

@@MidnughtMerauders I didn't take it apart. If you shine some light between the backplate and PCB, you should see the thermal pads. Also, you can see some thermal paste when you look location where this video tells you to apply -- if you don't, you may want to take it apart and check.

Late reply: I just checked my model, it was also "fixed" from factory, but damn what a poor job they did. I removed the paste and applied new (thicker line) and it still gave me -10C on average. This was only the first mod. I am going to do the other mods as well as soon I have the thermal pads. @jdlancaster1357

You don't really explain what you do with the fans on the GPU. Do you remove the old ones, and put the new ones on with your string?

You can see pretty clearly in the deshroud mod pic. I removed the stock shroud and simply tied 2 120mm fans to the fin array - running them at full speed blowing up towards the backplate.

The stock shroud includes the fans - they're all part of the same array.

Any reference PCB waterblock (vector I believe) will fit. There are videos of others fitting this block on the HP card.

Are you sure did the thermal paste on the black heatsink correctly? Also what's your airflow like?

@@simplyy5657 Yeah I would really put a lot of paste on the black heatsink. As I showed in the vid, it only makes contact with the cooling array, so there's no danger of damaging the card.

Also something definitely makes contact though because After I did the thermal pad replacement and paste the backplate gets really hot not sure if that’s a good sign maybe something is transferring heat

Yep this PC is amazing for gaming. I may recommend upgrading the CPU cooler though - a 120mm AIO isn't that great for 10700k, which can run hot.

ngl they now changed my gpu and it happened again i will go back to the store and check if it needs to be fixed again or if i can have my money back cause it overheats on gta5 and thats a joke for a 3080 but german law is kinda shit i need to get it to the store and let them repair it 2x i already got 1x repair and after 2 i think i can get my money back

None of HP OEM RTX cards are LHR. I recently received my Omen 30L with the RTX 3070 and it mines out of the box at 64 mh/s @ 130w with really low temps and quiet fan speed

Thanks for the Review. Glad I didnt buy this Omen. Too much work. I run my mining rigs around 100c even if I have to get lower hash rate. Still running well.

Thanks for checking out my vids! It was a lot of work but now I'm running at 101mh @ 96C! Totally worth IMO. I think in the future I will waterblock this one and put it in a ITX build

Managed to get the 3080 to 55C GPU, 74C VRAM, 78C hotspot @ 22C ambient temp. 98mh. Literally need to do every upgrade, pad front and back, paste, heatsink to back plate and fan upgrade. Once done it's a nice small short card to have in an ATX case.

@@jdlancaster1357 My rant was exclusively aimed towards the computer, nothing personal. I'd like to go sure no one feels offended, but since I'm building systems myself, I can't get over how badly designed so many pre-built PCs are. The case alone has zero airflow and is in no way prepared and ready for high-end parts that dissipate alot of heat. I have no clue about and no interest in mining, but especially in this regard, thermals are an even bigger issue, so trouble is guaranteed, if not comfortly modded to some extent.
