How to make your own tofu skins, aka bean curd skins, at home. We use non-GMO soybeans produced locally. From this, the soy milk, which is then cooked to yield the skins. Tofu skins are a very nutritious and versatile ingredient for many great Asian recipes. What better to make this yourself at home...natural, no preservatives, and can store at room temperature for several months!

Thank you for this! I need them for a recipe & couldn’t find any that were not made in China! I wonder if I could stick them in the dehydrator to cut drying time?

Thanks for the video, I'm wondering why you remove the soybean hullls wouldn't they just end up with the rest of the pulp?

Do they peel off easily when you get them from the drying rack or some pieces get stucked? I remember experimenting w dried rice wrappers and followed a KZfaq tutorial the dried pieces won't come off that easy we ended up scraping them crumbling the whole thing.

Hello and thanks for your question. Yes, if they dry completely on the sticks, they will not come away easily. I generally take them off the sticks after only 5 or 10 minutes, while they are still moist, and then I lay them out on a rack. I also turn them on the rack, so that they do not become stuck to it. Good luck! It is definitely worth the effort.

Nothing else is needed to form the skins just the strained bean milk and a steamer is that correct?
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248 2 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for your question. Yes, basically that is all. The milk needs to be heated thoroughly and to boiling; stir frequently. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!

How long does a skin take to form when you start the steaming?

Just about three to five minutes if your want it to become thicker you can let longer than that. Thank you for asking!

You must cook until boiling but be careful don't let it boil over your pot, and of course if leftover from making Yuba you make a tofu...Thank you for your interests in my recipes

Blender the beans? Or just blend the beans?
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248 Жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for your comment. In order to make soy milk, you must place the beans (after soaked and dehulled) in a blender with water to get the milk. We blend the beans once, then again the pulp from that first blending. Good luck!

Can these be rehydrated to use for wraps?
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248 Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for your comment. Yes, you can, but they need to be the right size, and also a bit thicker, in order to use as a wrap. You can rehydrate them just by placing them in a towel wetted with warm water...just place between, and keep moist until use.

If you blender with the hull you can get a little milk and the milk that you got has a bad smell like sour

A very tedious and meticulous process, the end product look so fragile and when dried, I wonder how you’re gonna use them to make a wrapper.
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248
@nokskitchenVeganrecipe5248 22 күн бұрын
Yes, it is not so easy. But when it's to be used as a wrap you can't fold it. Rather you have to dry it as big as possible. Then when you want to use it, you will moisten it in hot water just for a few seconds. Thanks and good luck!
