Turin to Paris was another beast of a day - about 800km through some amazing scenery and COLD temperatures. I lost the feeling in my fingers for about 300km of the trip, the feeling did return after a while though which was lovely. I did spend quite a bit of time dreaming about heated grips and wood burning stoves, neither of which I had with me. It was an incredible ride though.
I spent an unbelievable amount of money on tolls, my fault for staying on the motorways... I got to Paris, avoiding the rain by a matter of minutes.

Having a bike with no wind and weather protection and only 150km per tank filling is not ideal for touring... But you did it! Having a Company and Family at home, and doing such a long journey is not the best idea... But you did it! Doing such a long trip in winter is a crazy idea... But you did it! Goes to show how humans can do anything if they want to..., and succeed. You just have to get out of your comfy zone, leave those Computers, TV screens and Sofas and go! You'll be a better man for it..., am I right? Very admirable and a good lesson to us all. Well done and good luck for the next part, i'm guessing the final fling?

I spoke to a biker years ago who had an old bike and had travelled a bit with it. He told me to just choose the bike I love to ride because any bike will get you around the globe without too much trouble. Of course there are "better" bikes for touring, designed for the job, but doing it on a Thunderbird became a thing for me. Apart from the 150km refuelling thing, nothing else bothered me too much. The bike was completely faultless and delivered every day. I'd happily just back on it and do the whole thing again. These Triumph's are absolute tanks! You're right, it's just a matter of getting on with the things you are passionate about. It might all go wrong, but the experience makes it worth it.

Thermal inner gloves and a couple pairs of ladies short stockings makes a hell of a difference. Never know you may even take a fancy to wearing the stockings 😂

Me and the wife did that same road 2 years ago on our 1994 BMW K1100LT on the way from Yorkshire to Genoa to catch the ferry over to Tunisia when we moved to live there. The views were outstanding with the snow capped Alps all around. Temperatures varied when in and out of mountain shadows from absolute freezing to fairly warm when in the sun. Will be doing the same trip next year, but in the summer on way to visit friends in France

Riding in the cold without hand guards or heated grips is properly dire. I’ve got terrible circulation in my hands and I was reaching for the engine on your Thunderbird! I was going to mention that you don’t pay for entering France, you pay to use the tunnel. You’re always free to use the pass ^^.
@thebristolthunderbird

Haha, I was joking a bit about paying to enter France, I guessed it was for the tunnel. I'll be using the pass next time. It was so warm in the tunnel though, perfect for when I was freezing! I've got myself some heated gloves now, they are awesome.

I can highly recommend a heated jacket and gloves (better than grips) by Gerbing or Keis. They are a game changer you wouldn’t have been cold at all with them.

Thanks for the comment. Yea, I'm thinking of putting some content together around the whole mens mental health thing, not that I know loads about it, but we are all in the same boat in many ways and just talking about it is often a good start. Part of getting the mental health thing right is getting the work/life balance thing right.

Great footage, Matt and authentic, yes. I wanted to ask about your helmet. I like the look of it. Looks like a Simpson but no marking. What is it called and what is wind noise like? THANKS Art
@thebristolthunderbird
@thebristolthunderbird 7 ай бұрын
Hi mate. The helmet is a Frank Thomas. Not the most expensive, but was a nice fit. I wanted a white helmet for more visibility. In all honesty its not the best helmet I've had, the fit seemed to get worse as the ride went on. I always wear earplugs so the wind noise wasn't too bad. Still don't feel like I've found the perfect helmet!
@artsloan1490
@artsloan1490 7 ай бұрын
Thank you again. I stick with white for visibility too. I was in a group of bikes in convoy years ago and noticed that the white helmets were most noticeable (as a safety aspect). I was wearing a black one and that changed after that! It is hard to get a perfect lid and went for a £250 Arai based on reputation, really. Best wishes for riding bikes! Art

Those motorway taxes really sucks.. very annoying. Could buy a box i guess just to be able to speed through them, but anyway. The excuse for having those tax is to pay for the road, but damn, they must have been expensive after all these years.. feels more like tax scams at this point.. :)

You can of course avoid the tolls and use the Route Nationals (N roads green signage) but if you need to get a long way fast, you have to pay.

I'd prefer to ride the slower route to be honest, but with so many miles to cover I had little choice. Bit pricey though!

I've subscribed and enjoying you videos. You over paid on the Autoroute at Villefranche -Limas as you paid for a Classe 1 vehicle which is a car! You should have paid for a Classe 5 which is for motorcycles and would have been much less that the €39.20 you paid. If you arrive at an unmanned Toll in France on a motorbike and it shows Classe 1 then press the communication button and say Pour un moto classe cinq. Pas une voiture. Not great French but it will get the problem across. The person in the central control can change the amount charged which will show on the screen and then you can pay. Readings can be messed up if the following vehicle comes into the pay area to close to the rear of your bike. The problem can be more prevalent when riding in a group of bikes as your following buddy will more than likely be hugging your back wheel 😁
