I actually liked Luke's character in TLJ it connected with me in a big way in 2014 I lost my girlfriend in a car accident and I remember the weeks and months and even for a year after her death I was bitter and grouchy and just secluded myself away from alot of my family and my friend's but I eventually realized I was wrong and I got back out after about a year of staying to myself so when I saw the way Luke's character was portrayed in TLJ it hit me in a big way

This is my exact reasoning, too. Around the time TLJ came out, I'd been in therapy and was finally getting better and getting out of that negative mindset and habits I had for years. It was inspiring to me, not just as a massive fan of the series and Luke, but as another depressed person who was recovering. Seeing one of my favorite character, the character held up as the paragon of the Jedi by fans, being just like me and overcoming was fantastic.

I can understand him being depressed, and can understand what you went through, but the way they did it was not it at all. Even depressed people don’t turn into unlikable people like Luke somehow does in this movie. Depressed people may say a lot of wrong things but not to the point of becoming a wimp.

It's interesting that Anakin is such a human character while Darth Vader was practically a non-person. Your friend is right. 😊I guess many people detested Anakin because they wanted to see a younger Vader, not a brilliant, affectionate boy and then an ardent young man who makes some bad choices out of despair.

The last thing Luke wanted was to confront and kill his nephew. The fact that Luke hide from Ben in order to avoid confrontation is proof that Luke never intended to kill Ben in the first place. He just had a moment of weakness when he had a dark vision of what could happen, but he control HIMSELF eventually.

I wanted so badly for the original trilogy characters to be honored and bring forth further victories around the galaxy. When Han died it hurt, then it was every bit more heartbreaking to see Luke die. I felt hatred for what they did, thinking they tarnished a character I loved, and from that point I had no hope for anything relating to Disney's version of Star Wars. Your video on Kylo Ren and now watching this, it has shifted my perspective to see things in regards to the treatment of the characters in a less harsh outlook. I love this journey of the video to discuss the reasons of Luke becoming the way it ended. I've watched a few videos on KZfaq both for and against the Sequel Trilogy - this is the first to fundamentally alter my viewpoints. Much appreciated! Keep up the great content! 😁 May the force be with you, always.

I think the awful feeling fans feel for the legacy characters are understandable. But I don't think people should hate too much about it. I think the creators could have done better, but there were things about the sequels that were fun. As a writer I have also heard it said that when it comes to fiction viewers have a tendency to be more forgiving upon the re-watch versus the first time seeing something.
@Spider-Kayla
@Spider-Kayla 14 күн бұрын
@@deborahminter6231 When I first watch the sequels I was someone who read a lot of the once expanded universe now "Legends" books full of writings and work they felt like they were the next thing in Star Wars. At first I was confused and annoyed as heck about George handing off Star Wars to Disney, he worked hard to bring his vision to life and at the time I didn't understand the reasons why he'd let it go. The sequel movies as I said didn't at first help when Han died and other event that would make it harder to judge on the good things of the sequel movies. But, now I like most of Mandalorian, I'm fond of the Rebels show, love Andor for a more grounded take on Star Wars, I gave the Kenobi show a chance as I like Ewan most as Obi-Wan and it was good seeing Hayden again after many years - even better when I got to Ahsoka - I was just as thrilled to see Anakin again as I was when Luke rescued Grogu. If new fans are excited for future titles they should if that's what calls to them, I see the stuff being made less like destruction of old as I once did and more now - as hope, which is right on theme with Star Wars as a whole.

@Spider-Khal I actually think the spin-offs have been quite a thrill and true to the heart of the Star Wars universe. The introduction they gave Luke in the series was priceless... and it's awesome that they brought back Christian Haden. I just think Disney dropped the ball with the sequels, it was a cash grab to advertise the films as "sequels" only to push out the legacy family. They could have just advertised the films as spin off star Wars films...so the writers would not have felt the need to write in the legacy heroes without understanding what made them special in the first place.

I have one observation to add. The scene in which Luke ignities his lightsaber and and has the dark vision of the future is very meta. The genius of this scene is that it mirrors the response of haters to the Last Jedi. Haters - claiming that Luke is destroyed - jumped to protect what they loved - Star Wars - and in doing so used all the hate of the universe against Rian Johnson, the cast, disney and so on. In other words, they were tempted by righteous anger to do exactly the same thing that turns a person to the dark side. So, in a similar situation they failed the test and they would have killed Ben to protect what they believed was good. For all they talk about loving the Jedi they failed to learn the simple lesson of all Star Wars: being a hateful prick is a path to misery. This is why I like TLJ - it is chock-full of such meta-analyses and reflections on the nature of Star Wars and its fandom.

I think the fans have a point in being disappointed about Luke. But it's not all Rian Johnson's fault, the Force Awakens created Kylo...the only son to Han and Lea(which made him significant) and doomed him to the darkside so Rian Johnson tried to come up for a plausible explanation for that. His mistake was killing Luke Skywalker but...The Force Awakens did set the trend to kill off legacy characters.

I loved your analysis on Anakin and Luke’s contrasting self-fulfilling prophesies. Nice editing too. An anthology film would be awesome (almost mandatory) to fill in this story. It’s assumed Luke just ran off right after his temple fell. But so much could have happened before he went into exile. This anthology film could also include other “unfinished” stories like Rey’s patents.

I never knew how to put it into so many words but I always liked luke in TLJ because he acted kinda like a normal person would. Even without all the background story telling from Greek mythology that you went into. If you spent years ridding the galaxy of evil and all of a sudden you have a vision your nephew would make that evil return, who the f wouldn’t think for a split second to stop him. That’s the old “what would you do if you met hitler as a child”. Him not killing Ben is what shows he’s a good person. Just like he almost struck his father down but upon seeing his robotic hand stopped. The two things I would change is show another point in Ben and Luke’s past that made Ben so angry at him. Yeah a split second of him having his lightsaber armed I feel could be understood over the years as you see you became the very thing he saw. However I feel like there should have been a much deeper wound that couldn’t be healed (like obi wan injuring anakin and leaving him for dead but maybe take a psychological and or emotional path with it) The second would be luke. I always hated luke growing up because I always thought him beating the best villains in the galaxy was pure Hollywood “the good guys have to win at all cost”. I still believe that especially after seeing the prequels and how powerful the emperor truly was. However, no matter what he never backed down from a fight no matter the odds. So I thought he should have really been there to fight Kylo ren in person and then kylo beating him one on one would solidify him as a true threat and villain.

I was told by someone that Anakin turning to the dark side wouldn’t be out of character if only the PT existed, because “we see the progression and journey to get to that point. We are shown that Anakin has attachments he feels strongly about and his vulnerability to the dark side and we fully understand why he’d feel compelled to make the choices he did.”

I’m sorry, but when does he see a force vision, in the scene he looked into the head of Ben and saw far more darkness than he expected and fearing for the destruction of everything he build ignited his blade. He never saw the future. Also, neither Anakin in episode 2 or Luke in episode 5 caused his visions to happen. In episode two Anakin’s lack of action up to that point is what caused the vision to come true, if the Jedi let him leave than his mother would have never been in that bad condition. And episode five by the time he got there what happened already happened? He just got in a fight with with Vader and got royally destroyed.

The problem with how TLJ handled Luke's depression is that we have to fill in the gaps. With a character as beloved as Luke, it's gotta be show me. Not tell me. It would have gone a long way to show what Luke saw. To me, it's almost as bad as "Somehow Palpatine has returned" in Rise. I'm sure just like with the prequels, TV and movies will fill in the missing pieces and make it better. Clone Wars went a long way to make me buy Anakin's story in ROTS.

Yes, the sequels (like the prequels) have a good story, though it is unfortunately very poorly executed at times. I hope that some of the gaps will be filled in later. He lost me personally somewhere between committing small-scale genocide on a village and killing younglings. Definitely understandably human, but on a scale of Greek tragedies, where his heroic feats were truly astounding, and where his fall was ultimate. And obviously, this was intended. Luke's fall and failures are much more relatable, he did a mistake that lead to a lot of suffering, and he understandably blamed himself and fell into a deep depression. People react like this, he reacted like a human, not like the protagonist of a Greek tragedy. Both character arcs are interesting and have a place, but one is certainly much more a reflection of normal life.

From my perspective, as much as I like Rian for his thematics, I don't think he actually thought about the Skywalker family's history in that much depth, factoring in the visions they seem to have which is inherent in their DNA. I truly do doubt Rian actually considered any of this as his reasoning for why Luke went into exile. Because you're a genius for thinking about it this way, and this is not made clear whatsoever in The Last Jedi, without any nuance hinting at so. From what we are told or implicitly hinted at, Luke simply ran away because of his guilt following his miscalculation of Kylo and the fall of the New Jedi Order, not because he believed by doing nothing, he could counter his visions. Surely Luke knows that the visions are inevitabilities, not actual "what ifs"? Also, if Luke did act in this way, then why did he still refuse to do anything, when he realised his absence did nothing to stop the New Republic being destroyed through multiple planets being wiped out of the galaxy by the First Order's genocide, or Kylo killing Han? He must have realised that his visions still played out regardless of his inaction; and in this case, he still refused to act. It seems like Luke truly did just cower, rather than actually doing nothing to counter his visions.

Luke would have never given up even if it was his mistake. I am not against a creator making a bold decision, like Luke pulling his lightsaber on Ben but there has to be a recovery plan for a plot point like that. Luke would have searched for Ben, and helped Lea and never given up. I also believe he would have figured out that Ben didn't destroy the temple that night. Just saying! I also think it was a wasted opportunity....imagine: 1. Luke confessing to Han the mistake he made(admittedly this would have had to be the plan from the Force Awakens...unless Han lived or it was a flashback.) 2. What if Luke would have actually shifted Ben from the Darkside in the Last Jedi...there could also have been a revelation moment in which Ben realizes it was Snoke or Palpatine all along who tricked Luke into drawing his lightsaber. 3. It was disappointing that Luke dies after the memory reveal and the established connection between Luke, Rey, and Ben. After this lightsaber reveal there should have been a moment in The Rise of Skywalker in which Ben and Luke were forced to fight together to save Rey, followed with a sort of reconciliation where Luke holds off the First order and Ben nods goodbye before escaping to save Rey.

Something I just realized about Anakin like 5 seconds ago, but he brought balance to the force more than once. When he joined Palpatine and helped execute order 66, the Jedi went from hundreds of members to just two (obviously just in the context of the movies because of how many Jedi actually survive this in canon). Two Jedi and two Sith, perfectly balanced.

I don't need Luke to chase after Ben just after his turn. It didn't work out for Obi-wan (or more directly, chared Annie) so why would it for Luke and Ben? Thing is, Luke is still a symbol of hope, he just had a bit of a rough patch to get through,...'cause like all if us,...he's not perfect. ,...but sequel haters don't like it when you use logic based on actual events in these movies to explain them. I’ve found that Luke can be so hard to talk about now. People over worship him so much that any flaws are seen as blasphemy to the character. The Last Jedi made him human while the Mandalorian and Legends make him….. well a legend. But I often find that any character in Star Wars is always overshadowed by Luke when it comes to fan devotion. The most recent example is the Disney gallery episode covering the Mandalorian Season 2 finale. Dave Filoni made a point of saying that Ahsoka and Luke have very different fighting styles, but of course, what happens? The Luke fanboys get super triggered for having that thought that a character might be better skill than him in some capacity. This is why I’m excited for Star Wars moving away from the Skywalker saga.

Phenomenal and enlightening analysis Mr. Gold Man. I never thought about it this way before! However, my only issue is, do you think this is canon reasoning for why Luke made his decision to run away? I mean, do you really think Rian Johnson thought it through that much? And on top of that, do you think this is actually what Luke chose to do based off his visions, when there are multiple contradictions to his motives when taking this decision? Regardless, I love your explanation, even if it has a few plot holes and flaws, because it at least has a level of consistency in the Skywalker genetic code and character history, and makes me feel a little more satisfied with Luke's portrayal in The Last Jedi. I just sadly don't think Rian thought it through on this deeper level; as we see with his tweets and tweets he liked, he chose to do what he did with Luke because of the whole "never meet your heroes" storyline he wanted to portray, not to maintain consistency with the Skywalker family. Fantastic video man, I hope you understand my counterarguments!

Strongly disagree beacuse of one thing - despite the fact that I love TLJ Luke and the fact that you are basiclly right there is one flaw in it. Character development. The fall of Anakin Skywalker was at the same time sudden and not sudden. Yes he paniced but at the same time it was not the first time he did dark or controversial things. Luke on the other hand had only one scene of darkness in entire saga! (the scene where he attacked Vader with rage and fear about Leia) So his reaction was unlike Anakin's one unnaturall. Imagine that you have your beloved familly member is nice etc and never does any problem (because we need to assume that because we are not shown otherwhise) and take his sword just like that! Luke Skywalker wouldn't do that. He would try to save him at the first place! He might not succed but at least he would try...

I think one of the reasons why people are still having a hard time coming to terms with Luke's arc in The Last Jedi because they couldn't handle and I am not saying this in a mean, cynical way but they could not handle him being a different person between making what he believed was a huge mistake and a misunderstanding and being in his well...twilight years. I don't think the dude was in his 70's in The Last Jedi but he wasn't 40 either and he was absolutely not this almighty, ungodly powerful God from Mount Olympus the dude was a man. Yes he's a Jedi and yes he still trained to be a Jedi knight but when all is said and done he is still a man. I'm not making this comment in support just to feel better or hope to change people's minds. It's been almost four years and I know that as this video is being made somewhere out there there is still deep detest for The Last Jedi and let's not pretend that it's any other reason except Luke Skywalker's arc and him being gone is almost like a symbol of the past leaving before our eyes. And they can't handle that , there is some hurt underneath the anger and rant videos and clickbait. There is hurt and I get it I just don't think any of it justifies enough of the ugliness that still runs rampant since this movie came out. But nevertheless he was still a man not Jesus Christ.

I am fine in whatever way you take a character as that is what makes storytelling interesting. The problem with TLJ Luke is there is no character development that got us to the vastly different person we last saw in 1983. Whether you want to blame TFA for using him as a cliffhanger or TLJ for not utilizing more flashbacks to show how he got to this place we see him when he first flips the lightsaber. Take out the whole Canto Bight subplot and add 5-6 flashback scenes: -Han/Leia dropping off Ben so we get the reunion of the Big 3 -Luke/Ben conversations on what led Luke to think this kid was Vader Part 2 -Luke contemplating what he will do with Ben. I think if the fans saw old Hopeful Luke in early flashbacks before that fateful night with Ben, then grumpy Luke isn’t as jarring because there is some evolution of his drastic change.

This Video is brilliant! Love it 100000/10 But... If Anakin and Luke had this Visions, what about Ben? Did he have Visions too? Did he is literely the reason the Visions become true?! Luke did nothing to stop it, but what if Ben just did the opposite? Instead of doing nothing he decided to accept it and bring even more pain and suffering to the galaxy. People around him saw him as a Monster. He tried so hard to Show the people that he isn't a Monster, but by every little mistake he did the people start to believe even stronger he is one. And then he just gave up and become a Monster. For him, it was like accepting the Truth.

Luke Skywalker is my favorite character in Star Wars and I definitely prefer how legends does his story post episode 6 over canon. I’ll never be happy with how they end his story. I think if he hadn’t died at the end of episode 8 and we got to see him more in episode 9, no longer depressed, I would have been more okay with episode 8’s depiction of him. However, I like the connection you’re making between him and Anakin. I think my only criticism is that I would hope by 30 ABY, Luke would be more mature and wouldn’t be as impulsive as he was on Dagobah. However, I can say if in the rest of Star Wars canon, they flesh Luke’s descent out in a way like you have here, I’ll be more apt to accept them…especially if Luke and Kylo have another meeting during those 6 years. So thanks for changing my perspective a bit!

I LOVE THIS. So many good points! I also want to look at this on a meta level: That Luke that so many were upset wasn’t in TLJ is the Luke that Luke believed he was; then out of fear, he broke character. Not being the Luke everyone thought he should be, the Luke he believed he was at the time, the Legend as he says, likely caused him to hate himself just as much as half the audience hated him for breaking character in that moment. “Luke Skywalker would never do that”-so how do you think he would feel that he did do that?

@@thegoldman25 I do look back now and see the very flawed execution though. The whole thing could’ve been handled better and I think it might’ve gotten a better reception. That said it was also set up to fail Luke for those folks by TFA thanks to Abrams making him a mystery box that basically wasn’t in the movie. JJ decided Luke wouldn’t be there to save Han, or help Ben, or anything like that-Rian Johnson was given the task of explaining why, and the Luke that those people wanted to see simply would’ve been in TFA so there’s no reason Johnson could’ve given that they’d find satisfying. I don’t agree that the sequels told a good story that was poorly executed like the prequels, because there was no story. TFA was mostly setup with an indulgence in nostalgia but with lots of potential, TLJ was an art piece that flew in the face of mystery boxes in favor of exploring facets of character, and TROS was corporate mandated nostalgia fest and retcons that tried to please everyone and pleased no one. Every approach they took worked poorly with the other ones, resulting in failure, despite some really good ideas and moments being scattered throughout

I think it fits perfectly to Luke's character. The arc wouldn't work if it wasn't a character that is seen by the galaxy (and the fans) as the embodiment of hope and optimism itself. Neither would've the character's failure be as impactful. Seeing that even a legend like Luke can fail and have things to learn, is the true Luke Skywalker to me. He has always been my favorite because he's a person, he's relatable. A legend with no flaws isn't relatable. His failure is also very similar to Anakin's which is explained perfectly in the video. It also shows that even children can grow up and make the same mistakes as their parents'. I just love how many parallells there are between Anakin and Luke in The Last Jedi. Like the scene where Rey "beats" Luke when she gets hold of a lightsaber, and there's a shot of Luke lying down, exactly like Vader was in Return of the Jedi when Luke beat him.

What was done to Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi was nothing short of a character assassination by a petulant hipster (i.e. Rian Johnson). The problem with your whole analysis is if Luke already redeemed Vader despite everything he did To say he would panic to kill kylo in his sleep before he did anything is character assassination because Luke didn’t want to killing his father after he did every one of his evil acts Rather then do everything he could to prevent the next Vader in the form of Ben solo he rather murder his nephew in his sleep And because of that very action that caused Ben to become kylo Which again would have never happened because Luke has no reason to want to kill Ben since he is still innocent of any of the bad things he could do Essentially it be harder turning Vader back to the light then keeping kylo away from the dark And sure Vader may have thrested leia but the issue is Luke never sought to kill Vader even after that And that’s where this whole argument of your falls apart Because if Luke would do anything to save the ones he loves that would include the son of his twin sister and his best friend Ps also anakin never broke character, he was still constant with every action he took leading up to the dark, where it actually made sense for why anakin wanted to save padme after being a slave with his mother most of his childhood, being separated from his Mother; then told to let her go, then he tries to save her only for her to die in his arms and in response he killed the very people who kidnapped her down to the last person, he always shown he kill anyone in his way or harms the people he cares about and is selfish in wanting to save everyone he cares about(no how you do it is the problem) , so when he has a wife and unborn children and he gets visions they are going to die he immediately gets memories with his mother and how he do anything to save her, now that translated to his wife and children, so like father or husband would do they try to save them but because of who anakin is and what he has even through did build up to his turn to the darkside because the Jedi wouldn’t help him nor did he see a way to save her and palatine offered a solution if he joined him and that’s exactly what he did to learn how to save her, Luke however it another matter entirely he also wants to save the people he cares about but he thinks about everyone not just himself, unlike anakin luke sees the good in everyone even his enemies and that was brought to light about that after knowing Vader was his father, because Luke didn’t believe in anyone can truly be pure evil not even his father or the emperor, but it’s their choice to remain evil, By extension kylo hasn’t gone down the dark path yet the signs where there but Luke could have done everything to change bens path and wouldn’t consider murdering kylo because despite what kylo might do luke wouldn’t believe kylo would be beyond redemption like vader, hence wouldn’t even consider killing kylo So if Luke did everything to change bens path instead of even think about igniting his lightsaber a second away from Killing him is ludicrous, It would be a far better arc if Luke did do everything right and Ben still turned and his flaw was being to optimistic blaming himself for something he thought he could have stoped if he reached out better, and that’s why he is the way he is. If he did try to save him and that didn’t work even thinking about killing him wouldn’t work either because Luke wouldn’t even consider killing Ben if he was unsuccessful just as he wouldn’t kill Vader if he was unsuccessful in turning him Which by all definitions Vader himself chose to come back because Luke couldn’t make that choice for Vader but it’s because Luke had faith is why he believes anyone can be redeemed(hence if kylo still tuned when luke had that mindset it break him because he did everything right yet it still happened)

@@thegoldman25 that is a hollow reason why because Vader already did terrible things and kylo did not By comparison it be a lot harder to redeem someone who already turned then someone who is conflicted and hasn’t done anything yet The facts is luke even thinking to kill Ben in his sleep is character assassination, given that reason Rey shouldn’t have to tell him he was still conflict, the fact she had to only furthers the point luke didn’t try, like he did with Vader Which again this is his family the son of his best friend and twin sister and it’s like he didn’t even try Regardless of what you say it’s out of character for luke to be like this If you want to see this done right look at darth Caedus basically Jacen solo in the EU who is basically kylo in the sequels, luke even after he saw him turned tried to save him after everything, up to a point where Jason killed Mara jade Luke’s wife and the mother of Ben skywalker did luke outright not even want to fight his nephew because he knew If he did he wouldn’t hold back and when they did fight luke was going to kill him if it weren’t for his son stoping him In that story luke did actually try to change his nephew’s path even after he did horrible things but when he crossed the line by killing Mara did luke consider killing him on the spot that is the only time luke wanting to kill his family makes sense because he did try to save him but he didn’t want redemption and said family(nephew killed his family(wife)so ya luke had all the reason in character to kill Jason By comparison kylo has done nothing wrong yet and is still conflicted, luke wanting to kill him makes not sense even if he feared he turn evil because he is optimistic, if luke did trust kylo and he still turned that would make Luke’s character make sense and if he wanted to kill kylo after he did evil acts that would make sense But ultimately its because luke was character assassinated and even thinking about killing Ben is what turned Ben to the darkside in the first place

@@blazestarwars2919 first of all nothing you said indicates he broke character Anakin cut off maces hand to prevent him from killing palatine, palpatine still killed mace he just assisted, The whole point of anakin’s turn is because palatine said his master learned a power to save people from death a power in of itself could create life, and palatine said he learned everything from him including that ability, something that powerful is exactly what anakin wanted to learn and hence why he even considered turning it that wasn’t on the table anakin’s would have no reason to join or Allie himself with palatine Second we are never told palatine doesn’t know how to save padem we’re are told the opposite, so unless you can show saying palatine didn’t know shit then that would ruin the whole point to the fall, even if it was a trick if anakin knew this before mustifar then he literally has no reason even be helping the emperor he know he is being manipulated and thus realize who is the threat Which is palatine because he is the only one who knew of padme thus know he is the reason she dies Also he killed younglings because to his perspective his wife dies at child birth, not even sure if his children would survive, in fact he is under the impression they died with her, so killing children to save his children is no different if a serial killer had your children and unless you kill others yours will die, Also the Jedi are actually evil to a degree because of their dogmatic view points kidnapping children making them soilders without actually consent, abadonding family love and attachment in exchange for loyal under a flawed code, would destroy anyone who uses the darkside not even thinking one can be redeemed from it, served a political figures rather then people who safeguard others as they dare not make a move towards the huts, remove slavery or any form of injustice(they didn’t even save anakin’s mother after knowing she was a slave in need of help regardless, or any slaves unless it with galactic policy(in other words they only act when it can go their way like in the clone wars slave arc yet they don’t try to get rid of slavery all together), so much so they even accepted a clone army which is essentially a slave army without question or concern of why they were made and who made them and whether or not they shouldn’t have considered the alternatives, and deal in absolutes themselves, To put it simply the Jedi of old are not saints let alone good people or even servants to the will of the force as they proclaim to be, hence why Anakin the chosen one destroyed both the sith and Jedi because for the force to be balanced the 2 extremes must be gone, as in force users should Know the force is both light and dark, to use only one side is against the will of the force, and the point of force users is they are suppose to serve the will of the force meaning both the light and dark not just one side, in cannon and Legends it’s said the dark and light are not synonymous with good or evil rather positive and negative, to much one would lead to destruction., Luke’s new order of Jedi in the EU understood this hence why they were a success as they were true servants of the force and did what was right pragmatically, unlike the Jedi of old who did what’s right by their dogmatic view which wasn’t the correct one Also the clone wars and novels simply explained his character, the problem with the prequels is the execution hence why the novels are better because they give more context but as films they still make sense just really sloppy, With the sequels it’s worse then sloppy

What's your response to George's Ex-Wife condemning Kathleen Kennedy for the Sequel Trilogy? Or what about the Charlie Rose Interview with George Lucas? What about what Mark Hamill said about Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi? What about all the Sequel Actors like John Boyega who want nothing to do with Star Wars now despite being excited as shit when they first got the job? Are you aware about Bob Iger's autobiography where he literally admits to lying to George Lucas to get Lucasfilm for Disney by promising via a handshake agreement that he'd use his treatments for the Sequel Trilogy and then casting them aside as soon as he got the rights to Star Wars? Sequel Hate goes beyond the films themselves. People also hate them because of the shady nature in which they were made. I don't know if you'll ever realize that defending a trilogy made by a cooperate entity is not worth it. You are so dismissive when it comes to addressing the nuances on what people think about the Sequels. WHY do you defend the Sequels given all the flat out evil things Disney did to make it? They BANNED George Lucas from speaking negatively about his thoughts about modern Star Wars, thus why he's hardly said anything bad about Disney since the Charlie Rose interview. I can't help but think that you either don't know about these things, or you are overlooking it for some reason.

Stuff like this is why I subscribed to you despite not really liking the Sequel Trilogy. It feels like you give the trilogy life where JJ and Rian didn't. You are a true, not toxic, Star Wars fan. It kinda makes me wish you wrote the Sequel trilogy yourself. 😂

I feel that if Disney explored those six years, I do truly believe Luke tried to bring back Ben Solo but through out his journey he learned the flaws of the Jedi. Disney needs to give Luke the same treatment the clone wars tv show gave Anakin

I agree but Luke not only hid and did nothing but he also felt disconnected from the Force. This leads me to think that Luke has entered a state many saints have had which is called the dark night of the soul. In the dark night of the soul, there is a temporary crisis in which the believer feels abandoned by the divine. It is a kind of spiritual depression in which the believer feels hopeless and faithless. Many saints ceased to feel that way only in the last moments of their lives before joining the creator. That's what happened to Luke. He did what he had to do and then achieved the union with the Force ( which in Star Wars Universe is similar to what we call God on planet Earth.) The problem of a story with mythical characteristics as in the case of Star Wars is not in the story but in the interpretation capacity of those who watch it. Most people read very little overall. Philosophical, mythological, and spiritual readings are very rare readings for most of the population. So, the ability to understand myths, symbols and spiritual teachings is rudimentary not to say non-existent on the part of most people.

6:34 - Reject the supposition any ordinary person would kill Ben, especially with a force ghost Anakin that could teach Luke of his mistakes. 7:30 - It would've done a lot for there to be an extra/extended scene between Luke and Ben in flashbacks were to be seen, perhaps just Luke trying to talk to Ben but everything he says being anticipated by Snoke and used to manipulate Ben further into being against Luke. There's still countless plot and story issues I have with the Last Jedi, but additional context about this would be a great start. The issue's of self-fulfilling prophecies would've been a great way to trap Luke in TLJ, but I think that is never fully considered or properly shown in TLJ like it was with Anakin in the prequels. You also ignore "seeing things before they happen" is a general Jedi trait by Qui-Gon's quote, with Yoda talking about the future being clouded by the dark side elsewhere, and the prophetic reactions is how Jedi trusting in the force enhance their reactions to the point they can deflect blaster bolts and such. You make decent good case, but I'm glad you acknowledge that you're filling in the gaps yourself.

In my opinion, Luke inmediately going into exile without trying to confront Kylo would make sense. At this point Luke is overriden by shame, his actions singlehandely resulted on the future he was so desperate to avoid. From Luke's point of view, continuing to try and stop Kylo is just going to make things worse, the best thing he can do is removing himself from the equation entirely.
