Negative Visualization: A Counterintuitive Technique for Mental Health // Today, I'll be sharing with you a super simple (yet effective) technique for 1) building your psychological immune system, 2) getting out of the emotional rat race, and 3) wanting the life you currently have. I love the term "psychological immune system". The only way to combat fears is to face them. I find I often visualize the worst possible situation in order to feel better about taking a risk. The worst-case scenario is often not as bad as you think.

You made me remember. Long time ago I went through one of those Dale Carnegie seminars, and he explains in one of his books that in order to stop worrying you have to visualize your worst case scenario of the current situation, embrace it and work it up from there.

So few North Americans appreciate the risks to ourselves everyday. I've lived and worked in 36 problem plagued countries and deeply understand the fragility of "life as we know it." Negative Visualization is a very effective technique and one that can build resilience which is sorely lacking in this culture. For 30 plus years I've used a related technique of "Creative Pessimism" which is imagining the worst, preparing to adapt, then expressing gratitude for reality when the negative doesn't happen, or, for being prepared when it does. Being prepared does not mean that we live our lives in fear and sorrow, rather we take reasonable steps to mitigate the harm. and then continue to live.

You didn't interpret the law of attraction fairly. A universal law of attraction is absolutely existing and the underlying mechanism of everything, but it's best explained by philosopher's like Vadim Zeland (Reality Transfurfing) and not New Agers (the clichéd "positive thinkers") whom you've basically paraphrased in your definition. Vadim explains it more in terms of balancing forces, and that takes away with judgmental terms like "negative" or "positive" and explains why those forces in a binary universe are 100% root and symptom of absolutely everything. Keep up your great honest work. I could listen to you for hours.
@JulianneKeu
@JulianneKeu 3 жыл бұрын
That's a valid critique, thank you. I'm not familiar with Vadim Zeland but I'll be looking him up after this. I like the concept of "balancing forces" > positive vs negative. It offers room for movement and nuance.
@BorisBerlin

@@JulianneKeu Vadim's books are actually difficult to get in English, but there's a good audiobook reading of "Reality Transurfing Vol 1" on KZfaq. This volume is the one that deeply affected me, making me understand the underlying "matrix" of the universe much more and thus learning to harness it more and more consciously in areas where I wasn't. I hope it also resonates with you.

Totally agree with your thoughts on negative visualization, in cultivating a sense of gratitude. I’ve also found, somewhat paradoxically, that there’s usually a reason to be thankful for the negative events which transpire, as they illuminate (even force us down) otherwise imperceptible life-paths that eventually lead somewhere beautiful and positively life changing.

Thanks for another video and this topic. I'll remember to put this into practice when faced with thoughts a fear and uncertainty. ...any uncertainty is admitting that an outcome is not yet written. The fear of the worst could be a good gradient to pull us towards something more desirable. See you at your next one! :)

For me it’s mostly a matter of fear, fear and negativity is easily outweighed in the mind and body by the held absence of air in the breath. If u think u don’t like negative ull b glad for anything when u finally breathe in. This practice will also help our thought process to simplify which is a more connected empathic state.

0:45 Wisdom bomb. "Positive vibez(s) is the result of mental health." Sometimes a person is unable to visualize a scenario whether positive or negative because they are stuck in a infinite loop mindset. On the one side a person could believe that everyone is out to get them or nothing is going right in their life, while on the other hand a different person could have never been exposed to resistance so they have an inert unsuspecting whimsical behavior towards others. The challenge is finding the balance between the two, while having experience in both. At times, the latter is beneficial in a productive loving relationship, while the foremost might be useful to consider while walking alone down a dark alley late at night before you talk to a stranger that says he has free puppies and candy in the back of his van with the spray painted videos and missing license plate. As I strongly agree that both negative and positive visualization are key to the stability of ones mental state, I would caution the inexperienced meditation practitioner to journey down the rabbit hole of visualization (positive or negative) without a thoughtful and trusted guide. Such expeditions could unknowingly attach fragments of the infinite loop mindset onto the pilgrim and leave lasting damage. Having dissected this thought, there could be beneficial additives used to decrease the time required for the technique to establish the desired emotional growth.

A little feedback about the law of attraction - what I've noticed, or possibly just choose to notice, is not that positivity is rewarded with positive outcomes, but rather chances to be a positive influence, and in a split second you have a chance to become something better... or return to your mean. Okay, resuming video.

Another tip I learned in therapy... VALUES can be reconstructed as continuous "-ing" words (as in verbs). Like "spending time with family" "exploring" "learning new things" ... NOT "getting that promotion" (not continuous). Does that make sense? I wish I could've clarified better in the video

I suppose I use a similar kind of method while dealing with the anger and other emotions that got rejected while I was growing.. Just not in any scheluded kind-of-way.. 😜 But I'd still reckon that once you're 100% aware of every thought and feeling thorough the day, the law of attraction would be pretty obvious 🤔
