I M/21 have an older brother (Adam_27) and he's a wheelchair bound due to a motorcycle accident that caused him SCI. He was living with his ex-fiancee but my parents took him after she said she couldn't do it anymore. I come to take care of him everyday. Started learning to be Adam's carer since mom & dad were becoming overwhelmed. I still go out/study/while being there for Adam.
It's been almost 3y. Last week my parents got a wedding invitation from Adam's exfiancee's parents (her family and my family are close. Known them for 15y) my parents told Adam they wanted him to come with them to celebrate/support the family. Nomatter what happens the 2 families will be close. Adam said no. Dad lashed out saying he needed to stop being selfish and potentially ruining a 15y friendship between 2 families by being bitter. I got involved after dad said Adam had no choice but to go. I asked him to respect Adam's opinion but dad called me an enabler and that they get to 'veto' his opinion since they do so much for him.
Story 1:
AITA For taking my older brother to a restaurant instead of taking him to the wedding?
Story 2:
AITA for insisting its my sisters own fault she got dropped from her university classes, and telling my family I refuse to feel sorry for her?
Story 3:
AITA for telling my sister the real reason I would not lend her clothes
Story 4:
WIBTA if I don't do a stupid errand for my sister?

The parents would undoubtedly twist the truth and make OP sound like a kidnapper, and so the police would likely respond. But once OP and his brother tell them what's happened, the police will probably drop the charges and warn the parents about lying to them.

Parents who value the "Picture perfect family" and public appearances over a son's rights. Adam doesn't want to go and if anyone declines an invitation to an event then they don't have to go. Doesn't matter if he's disabled or a triathlete. No means no.

@@steveyoung6083 Yeah, go to the wedding and make a huge scene cursing and screaming and just objecting altogether. Show them what a mistake it was to even invite him to something like that and how she'd left him. Show the groom's family what kind of person they were marrying, and maybe they will get lucky and call it off to spite her. Then then parents would look real good.

The parents in the first story are major drags. I hope their "15-year relationship" is worth losing their two kids. Adam isn't some pet dog to be kept...he's a human being with rights. If they can't handle that, then they shouldn't be his caregivers. I wouldn't trust a pet rock to these people.

No means no still. Don't borrow my clothes. That's the only thing OP needs to say. NTA and E's weight is the issue but not because she's fat but because they are different body types. It happens for siblings regardless of gender. Not all brothers after a certain age can exchange clothes due to puberty and other factors. Same thing in sisters. She's playing the victim. Story 1: If OP's brother hadn't ended up in a wheelchair, would the parents try and make him go to the wedding? If the answer is yes, your parents are TA, but less than what we're all thinking about them now. I know, not exactly comforting but neither are your parents.

I disagree with "less," because it's one thing to tell your kid they're going, and another to physically force them to go in a way they literally cannot do anything about. At least if the guy weren't in a wheelchair, he would have the option of walking down the street or simply refusing to get in the car, but this screams abuse and the utter ignoring of consent.

Sounds like your sister is sleeping all day because she's staying up all night possibly planning those parties that are putting the entire family at risk during a pandemic. I'm wondering who's paying for her schooling, the parents? Student loans? Either way, they just threw a whole semester's worth of money down the toilet because you don't get a refund and she will have to retake those classes for the degree she's trying to get.

With the first story you need to get your brother out of your parents house because quite frankly I get the feeling that your parents are the type that believe in Social and cultural and economical status. The fact that his fiance left him after his injury speaks volumes about her character and the character of her family and your parents as well. It may be time for you and your brother to go no contact with your parents and to be honest his ex fiance's and her family will Karma very soon

He’s still a PERSON with the right to his thoughts and emotions, and how DARE his parents try to trap him in their way of thinking when he’s already physically trapped in a wheelchair and requiring their care?!? My god...my heart goes out to this guy. He is a Person - NOT a job to be managed. Just because he’s in a wheelchair doesn’t mean me doesn’t deserve autonomy and independence (at least for his thoughts!) and I HOPE his parents can get their heads out of their asses long enough to start treating him with the respect they’d give an adult stranger on the street that they’re denying their own son...

1st story: NTA. Even if he wasn't disable, who in his or her right mind says "hey dude, come to your ex wedding". Like, wtf?. I get the parents are close to her parents, but I highly doubt her parents will turn into enemies because one of the, ADULT PERSON WHO IS THE EXAND BEING ABUSED, said "Nah, I don't want to go". I wouldn't be surprised if both OP and the brother cut contact with these trash parents. 2nd story: NTA. I know someone who is as lazy as OP's sister. I had to call his a-s off to get to the final exam (which is online), because the idiot was sleeping. I cut contact with that person, I don't need useless leeches on me, I stress by myself enough. The parents sure show their favoritism, that's for sure. I know online class isn't fun, but literally being so lazy that you can t go into a zoom class is a new league. 3rd story: NTA. OP, how dare you not to let yourself being rob and your property damaged, you have to be the bigger person, as big as your sister, lmao. No, OP, you aren't the a-hole. She STOLE your clothes, let alone damaged. She asked for it. 4th story: NTA. NOPE, NOPE, NOPE. This ain't your issue, tell her to call her attorney. That Karen of a sister is not your responsibility

I think OP in Story 1 may need to report his parents to APS. The Redditor at 3:38 is right, if they’re taking such great care of Adam then why does OP have to come over daily to care for him? And “vetoing” his decision to not want to go to the wedding is straight up abuse. They tried to use Adam’s disability against him to force him into compliance. Even if OP cannot afford to take care of Adam now, Adam should not be subjected to such horrible people.

With the second-story you may want to move and with your fiance and go to therapy for your mental health. Also be prepared to go no contact with your parents and your sister for the foreseeable future. Your mom and sister aren't talking to you because you're not in the enabling business. And your dad is not trying to get into The Hornet's Nest because he knows you're in the right but he also knows this is a tough time for them all. Story 1: NTA. I just love (Note my sarcasm) how the whole family was more concerned about a relationship with another family, over Adam's well-being! Like what the fuck is wrong with OP's family?!? They cared more about their image than their own child! Like probably the ONLY reason why they know that family, is because of Adam's relationship! OP when you do move out, take Adam with you! Also, I would just LOVE OP's father calling the police, on OP when they do get Adam to move in with them. Like I would want to see how that one goes down for him. "Yes, sir. My child is trying to kidnap my adult child!" "Wait, sir. You mean to tell us, that they're both adults?" "Yes, sir. They're adults. But they can't take Adam! He HAS to live here with us!" "Sir, Adam is an adult. He can move out. And he doesn't HAVE to listen to you." I would DIE to see that. Also, this is a life lesson. Family isn't always blood. Sometimes it's just really close friends. Take my dad and my uncle... Adam as an example. He isn't related to us by blood, by he's been friends with dad since they were... I think babies, I know they knew each other as kids. Story 2: NTA. You see I kinda feel this one. You see, my parents are the same way with my little sister Anna. My dad once told me and my older sibling that if we dropped out of school, we would either find a job or he'll kick us out (I don't remember which one he told us) he then told us that if we got pregnant, he'll kick us out. But then Anna wanted to drop out when she was in the 7th grade because it became hard for her and her teacher was trying to fail her on purpose. He told her "Oh, sweety that's okay, you can go do that." It really seemed to piss my older sibling off. Then she gave us a HUGE scare. She was late on her period and we didn't know if she was pregnant. Guess what... my dad didn't even warn her that if she was pregnant, she'll get kicked out. All he did was reassure her that everything was okay and that she'll be able to still live at home. My older sibling got pissed off with this too. Anna wasn't pregnant. Hell one time my mother had to go into Anna's room and clean it herself. This bitch had four boxes of pizza, one had a fork in it. She had months-old food in there, hell you couldn't even see her floor! That's how messy it was! I went into my parent's room (She was in there talking to my dad) and straight-up told her she should really clean her room. My father looked at me and just told me in an angry voice "You should really mind your own fucken business!" I bit my tongue and walked off to help my mother clean Anna's room. Then a couple of weeks or months later, she came into my room for something. Now my room wasn't really a mess, I did have some trash, but at least you could still see my floor! I also didn't have old food in there! She came in for something and got want she wanted, and I heard her tell my parents "Sierra, should really clean her room." and guess what... my dad AGREED with her. No, she doesn't get yelled at for not minding her own business! That's how it was with him. He would yell at me to clean my room, but he LET her room be a pig pin! Hell, it was the same way when it came to studying with that man! He would yell at me when I got something wrong, but no, he used a soft and sweet voice with her! It was the reason why I liked it when my mother was helping me, she was more softer with me. My dad didn't like that though and would yell at her for being too soft on me. It got so bad that I FEARED getting anything wrong on anything. Like one time I made an honest mistake that my dad didn't mind at all, but I still felt FEAR that he would yell at me, hell I even mentally and emotionally PREPARED myself for it! But this type of parenting NEVER plays well with kids. Because with how your mother is putting the blame on the school, your sister is never going to learn that she NEEDS to show her work. Like what if she needs a job? She needs to actually show up for work! Not to mention, OP's sister already had two people telling her that it wasn't her fault and that she's going to be fine. Why was so important for your mother that you also had to do that? Like she really pushed you to lie like that? Also, like the last comment. The sister might have something, so talking to her or therapy might help. Sorry, I'm not good with stuff like this. I under what depression is, I'm just not good at dealing with other people's emotions. It's why I tell Anna that she really shouldn't come to me when she wants to vent and looking for advice. Again sorry if I offended anyone.

Story 1 NTA: sounds like Adam and his ex had an arranged marriage type deal and once he was disabled, the "family friends" didn't want him anymore. But, to try and force the poor guy to go to his ex's wedding (probably so people would think that his ex had his blessing) to "save face" is just cruel. I don't know where OP lives, but many countries have programs to help the disabled to find jobs, living spaces, etc. So OP could look into those to help Adam be more independent from their parents.

No. Honor your brother's wishes. His parents are sweet and possibly senile. His mother is part of "The sisterhood" of forgiving all women for everything under chivalry. No Brother's ex wants to make a public spectacle of your brother so that her conscience is clean. No. Take him to his favorite restaurant.

I’m confused…call the police for what? Adam is old enough to get married and live with a fiancée, so he’s an adult? What do you think the cops are going to do? Arrest two grown men for having a meal at a restaurant? They’ll likely arrest you for wasting their time.

Last Story : The jailed sister should never have wore expensive shoes the day she was jailed. No doubt. At the same time, she's not in jail because of a habit of doing good choices... She's in jail, so she's paying for her mistakes. She doesn't have to be punished further. Keeping her stuff safe, wasn't so much to ask from OP just to give her a peace of mind. Instead OP choices to create some resentment and dig a bigger gap between her and her sister... for me, OP is the AH

With the last story I get the feeling that we need to know more about what type of crime it was because I don't get the feeling that it was a violent crime but it was someone of a crime of Economics that may have landed her in prison for I guess less than 2 or 3 years she'll probably get paroles within a year. And I think your parents are disappointed because she wanted more money than what she was making. My advice don't take any of her calls for at least 6 months and tell your parents to do the same. And she got both you and your parents cannot welcome back her into your home because I promise you she's going to have some unresolved issues that were happening in there and before that probably are going to be way out of your control. Self preservation is a lot easier than to let someone destroy you from the outside

OP replied it was financial crime. Still, and maybe I've been watching too many spy movies, you'd never know what the sister is hiding in those shoes. The last thing the sister needs is to be tied down to any crime because she was trying to do her sister a favour.

during lockdown I used to enter classes and sleep and only wake up for attendance while some professors used to take attendance from the list of students in the lecture while others by calling names and them typing use or answering with the microphone either at the start middle to at the end of the lecture while some other professors took the lecture attendance based on the first hour and second hour separately and either at the start of the first and second hours or end of each

Story 2 sounds a hell of a lot like my most recent ex. After we met, she told me she was a heavy partier and slept around so her grades tanked. But at the time she was on the “up-and-up” with her academics… That was true, until it wasn’t. When the pandemic hit, we were forced into online school. My grades flexed a little but I survived; meanwhile I thought she was doing okay until she just out of nowhere said she’s taking a LOA (leave of absence) cuz her grades tanked. She evidently just ignored her assignments, slept all damn day; never gave a shit until the last minute until it was too late. That wasn’t the final straw tho, but I remember her being so callous about it and I was just so awestruck by everything coming out of her mouth

Wow the entitlement of op parents. So a friend'ship of 15yrs is more important than your disabled son's well being? Also the nerve of his ex inviting him to her wedding. I had a surprised pikachu face moment , hearing that. Not going to wedding was a bad idea. I would have gone to the wedding. Wait for there vows call out my brother's ex, her family, and my parents. Then posted everything on social media, go nuclear on them. That's what op should have done. Toxic people deserve a toxic return. That simple.

With the third-story quite frankly I think your sister just wants to try on the clothes because she is having some major insecurity issues about her way to see if your clothes are fitting you. I would suggest to your father that you get her into counseling and you as well because this is going to be one of those situations that she will never let go easily and it's only going to get worse. You would not in the wrong but clearly in her mind that was below the belt

story 4. there is no such thing as contraband. its weird system but getting things your "not supposed to have" and searches and other things of the like are part of a very strange system the is completely impossible to explain to someone who haven't been in prison. and the prison fully acknowledges it and uses it. unofficially and off the books of course the whole become a better person in prison is a nice fairy tail the media likes to people on the outside, but in reality its just multiple packs of wolves in there and you just fight so survive and make your stay ever so slightly less shitty until your time its up.

Story 4: You're being super judgemental to your sister. As far as prison goes, basically everything is contrabant. Having a phone is basically harmless and most prisoners have to bend rules in some way to make their lives bearable. Prisons are dictatorial hellholes and they abuse everyone, shitty people and people who make mistakes alike. As far as the favor, she wanted to help keep her identity outside of prison in some way. The shoes were representative of that. She didn't want that side of her locked inside as well as her, so she wanted you to secure them and then let her wear them again when she is once again free. You are just caught up in the menial idiocies and are judgemental and lack compassion for her. I mean, seriously, judging her for having a phone? The fuck!
