You said it perfectly. You need to be able to research in the tech industry. Find the information! This doesn't mean you can't ask a question. But bruh, did you at least google it?

I think it's a sign of the times. Most people want instant gratification in all things and any claim to get anything fast, is enough to get people to put up money. I transitioned in 9 months and researched everything. Most information is free today but many want it layed out for them and packaged even if it means debt.

Thank you for this!! Do your research!! I did my research in the field before entering. ….and yes! That’s just it..RESEARCH! It’s like 90% of the career. I’ve now been in it for 2 years, still don’t make 6 figures, but I’m comfortable.

I will add to this. Learn your basics while you are looking for a job in Tech, it took me a year to land my role ANDDDDD YOU REALLY NEED TO BE SELF-MOTIVATED!!!! while at my role I'm studying on my own to gain valuable skills. Nothing will be handed to you in Tech

People need to look out for overpaying for these courses like Network Engineer Academy (who is a bit pricey but still good if you can afford it): "My name is Jorge and I will teach how to become a 6 figure Engineer in the IT Field!" lol

Try looking at CDW Associate Consulting Engineer program, It's an apprenticeship program. I truly enjoyed it and I'm still with the company 5 years later. They hired me after I earned my CCNA; that is how I got my start and quickly moved up the ranks using their learning resources and on-the-job training.

@notesbynisha281 Жыл бұрын
@@Stoneface_ it is an apprenticeship. The program helps you to gain that experience by working alongside a Technical Lead and following their curriculum to learn new skills and earn additional certifications. While having experience isn't what they look for, they do prefer to consider candidates who have at least one technical certification. They just finished hiring for their next cohort, so I would check back early next year. They hire a few times per year for this program.

Everyone wants to make IT money, but no one wants to do IT work. People do not understand that if you want to be successful in IT you need to be willing to sacrifice a lot of your personal life to further your skills. It's not hard to get a job that pays $70k, it's hard to build the skills necessary to not only get that job but stay relevant and not fall behind.

This is so rampant on #techtwitter its insane. I've had people hit me up and ask how to fast track it then I tell them about on call rotations, SEV calls, RMAs, dealing with vendors and the actual pay then they stick with what they're already doing lol. Or I do interviews and thinking about giving someone a shot wit h little experience and they see the above once they start and leave.

I've been in the field for a long time, alot of these social media barkers are FULL OF CRAP. I started off as cable puller, with responsibility of literally multimillion dollar systems which grew from a small "first of if's kind company" to an international brand. And no, I wasn't paid 6 figures! Laughable...It is factual if you are a developer to demand such a salary BUT it varies GREATLY by region and role! I know phds making WAY under $100k, geniuses... @@certifiedcurls Funny story, attended my first and only Microsoft Bootcamp a few years ago paid for by my previous employer. Very expensive, when the instructor went around the room asking for experience when it got to me I was like literally double their experience including the instructor who read out of a book! Needless to say, IT"S NOT WORTH IT! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in that (BOOT CAMP) can be picked up online for FREE at your OWN PACE. My success built on: formal education (multiple college degrees) experience (lots of breaking and fixing) and certifications. And by the way, I was either the ONLY minority or one of a handful in my career path. The higher you ascend the less diversity you see because of a lack of mentorship and being shutout.

Bottom line about IT. Either you put in the work to learn, usually by yourself, or attend a university that's reputable. It's possible. I took a HS course in Cisco back in 1999. I studied a bit more on my own and In 2000, I took the CCNA and passed it. The rest is history. Just put your head down and hit the books. A degree in the subject matter also puts you ahead of the game. But it all revolves around you putting in the work.

Facts. My husband got an earful of me, but thankfully I been in Tech field for years before switching in to accounting. When our internet go out.. I be like nope go troubleshoot this. You should be able to find out what the problem in just a few moments is Mr. Certified. These crash courses are nice but it's like testing out ap classes... You gotta know what tf you talking about when you get that interview.. It's sad that they prey on poor ignorant folks /immigrants (not the super educated ones). I was working in internet security with soon much knowledge, but soon as I tried to go in to IT.. It was hard knocks. Not everything has a simple solution. It does involve testing, documentation, and Google! Even on the job I had to go research forums and bugs on equipment. I mean 6 figures was not really easily reached for me, not just with certs alone... Plus . team members will sniff out bullshit coworkers in an instant. We even got rid of a manager because she didn't know wtf we was talking about. Do your research or You'll be sorry 😅
