Let me know if you have some networking skills you think should be learned in 2022. (Timestamps are in the description box BTW) Also, out of curiosity, how do you feel about the potential of learning Kubernetes???

I think all of the things you mentioned are definitely skills to be learned, and Networking is at the core of them all. Nothing works to its full potential unless the network is Up!

As a CTO and long term software developer , I think kubernetes is an excellent skill. It’s been a game changer for me. But if you are in networking, I would recommend studying the Kubernetes Ingress Controller specifically. Learn about the different options available for Ingress such as the Nginx Ingress Controller. This will allow you to define networking rules based on host, url, endpoints, etc. HTTPS no longer has to be build into the application and can be handled by K8s. Same for authentication. You can specify which hosts or routes must be authenticated. You can then reject unauthenticated requests before it reaches your application. Learning the basics of service meshes like Itsio and how it allows for intra container / pod / cluster communication could be helpful as well.

You hit on some very important topics with this one! You are so right in saying networking ain't going no where. What good is a cloud infrastructure with out a highway to move data into and out of the cloud LOL. And as far as automation, you still have to know how to configure a router or switch or whatever NETWORKING device or task your automating. The founder of Sun Microsystems back in the 80's once coined the term "The Network is the computer"...Facts! Soft skills, communication and writing skills and troubleshooting skills are essential as well. Man this is an awesome info video. I appreciate everything you do for us and please keep em' coming! Happy Holidays to you and your family! Peace & Blessings.

I really relate to the programming/automation hold out. I've started learning so many times and it just winds up falling off my radar and not being missed. I'm sitting down to tackle some Python and Ansible at the start of the year and I'm determined to get somewhere with it this time!

Hey what's up! Thanks for another great video!! You have touched on the biggest skills to have to be strong in I.T. today! Not much more to add other than maybe the legacy skills like microsoft and Linux server skills also Active directory. Know your protocols like 802.1x, OSPF and BGP and IS-IS if you're on the datacenter and ISP side. I would say wireless design and implementation and Collaboration for telephony and video. This info session was very informative and please keep em' coming! Happy Holidays and Peace & Blessings.

It always surprises me how much people sleep on programming or scripting languages in general. The amount of value you can bring to the table for any organization is amazing. Even if your organization doesn't do any type of automation, that does not mean there are not things that can be automated, there's always processes that can be automated.

Depends on what you would rather do or what interests you more. Look into what both can offer you in your career and pick which one better suits you. Both are great options but since Devops is newer there's a lot of hype and information about it so thats good
