I like to use the NKJV with the NASB95. I favor the TR slightly because I can’t imagine the church for many years preaching added text. I think God does preserve his word. I do still think the modern translation scholarship is pretty good. I buy Concordia commentary on books of the Bible. They translate original to English and it does seem to match closest with modern translations like LSB or NASB 95 or LEB.

Always enjoy your videos. As I have stated before, I dont lean to one family of manuscripts or text types over the other. I do have a little more issue with the TR as it has more from the Latin inserted into it. But when I look to translations, I love the NLT and the NKJV. When I read the NLT verses 44 and 46 are footnoted so you can still read them and of course the NKJV has the verses in the text. I also do look at what the World English Bible (WEB) reads because it is a Robinson Pierpont Byzantine Priority Text. I also read the 1599 Geneva Bible, daily verses from the ESV, CSB and NASB 95.

Thanks for this, guys! There’s this one text where I’ve really not understood how the rendering came about. In 2 Peter 1:1, most Greek text bases, and English versions call Jesus “our God and Savior.” The KJV instead has “God and our Savior,” and even Scrivener’s TR has an additional “our” in his Greek text. No idea what happened there.

Very interesting Dwayne. I must point out that going by the methods of the Critical and Majority theorists we still don't have God's Word since we havn't really looked at all of the manuscript evidence out there. We note that the Critical theories (which include yours, could change with any further discoveries made here). Yet, the one method that doesn't need all the evidence looked at is the faith based, biblical based method of the TR position. We assert that we have God's Word and the People of God have indeed always had it. Add to this, all the manuscripts that have been destroyed or buried etc. It only multiplies the problem.

I saw yesterday that the INTF announced they'd added 10 new manuscripts from the Mount Athos monasteries on the Liste. They also said they'd reached about 5700 catalogued manuscripts from 43 countries. The Mt Athos monasteries make up about 18% of their total, so if I'm doing my maths right, they account for roughly 1000 of their total catalogued texts. I'd love to know exactly how many GNTs and LXXs are there - they list about 15,000 manuscripts between the 21 monasteries, but by their own records most seem to be non-Biblical texts.

If it's true God preserves His words for salvation, through the ages. Then the critical text supporters is arrogant in saying the Bible came down flawed and lacking. Just because they found a couple of obscure Manuscripts. See, we modernists is right and we must not trust the Bible, trust modernists. We now must rewrite the Bible, that goes two thousand years and now we correctly rewritten it better. Correcting those two thousand years of errors and flaws?

Again reading the Scriptures, it is in all Bibles in verse 48. I am again not really concerned that in the Critical Text its not mentioned 3 times. I know hell is where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. I believe that, so I don't need to have the same phrase mentioned 3 times in 5 verses to be convinced. It does not make the TR nor the Byzantine Priority any better because they have it three times. The Critical Text has it one time in the text and twice in the footnote so you can read it three times if you like.

@@rodneyjackson6181 Why some have problems with Reasoned eclecticism. I John 5:7 is found in a majority of the Latin, but not the Greek so out it goes. Even the verses about the the angel coming down into the Pool of Siloam where Jesus ministered to the crippled man, are in the text. They are noted in the footnote to be disputed. 1 John 5:7 is in the footnote to read. It is true it is not in any Greek manuscripts. I can still read all these verses in my Bibles. That is precisely why I do not worry and am not concerned . The Byzantine nor Majority Text contain 1 John 5:7 either precisely because there are no Greek manuscripts that contain it. If people want to worry or argue about less than .3 percent of all verses in the New Testament, have at it. Does the NKJV teach false doctrine about salvation? I say a qualified no, but the NKJV along with other modern translations do not teach the full truths of salvation. Are we saved or are we being saved? Dr Wade hit the nail on the head with his 30,000 ft view. IMHO the real question is how or who is keeping us saved. At conversion we are spiritually circumcised which is the cutting apart our soul and our body. The Holy Spirit daily washes our soul with the blood so the sins of the flesh do not stain the soul. Our salvation is maintained by the Lord, not our continual works. An often overlooked scripture (Eph 2:6) tells us our spirit has already returned to God replaced by the indwelling Holy Spirit who does the work of keeping us saved. At the beginning I mentioned leaving off the full truths. Gal 2:16 in the KJV along with other scriptures tells us we are justified by the Faith of Christ, not our own faith in Christ. This is a doctrine found in the KJV which is lost in the modern versions. Think on the implications........The Faith of Christ never wavers, never faults or fails, it's Rock solid while our own personal faith is weak. Yes we are saved and yes we are in a continual work of being saved; but the Lord does the work, not us. Rom 3:30 tells us the one God justifies us "through" faith and Eph 2:8 tells us we are saved through a faith that is gifted to us. We are gifted the Faith of Christ which gives us the knowledge God will also raise us from the dead. Believers in how He died, was buried and resurrected are resting in the Faith of Christ.

So in short these views have the same problem except pre wrath believes Christians will be killed during the great tribulation but so does pre tribulation rapture. Pre tribulation is a partial rapture because people who are left behind are converted and they will also experience a resurrection and rapture.
@timshanks6729
@timshanks6729 7 күн бұрын
There is a huge problem with both views. 1st Thess 4 is the second coming and it's perfectly clear. Matthew 24:29/31 is exactly the same thing. For the Lord Jesus is coming in flaming fire taking vengeance and those who don't obey the gospel. God's wrath is coming on the resurrection day and we are are still alive will be changed at the last trumpet and we will be caught up to meet Jesus in the sky. The seven bowls are poured out on those who have the mark of the beast and Christians will be here until Jesus returns to establish His kingdom on earth.

The lectionary isn't really my specialty, but I have practical reasons to learn about it. I don't think we have a good timeline for it. I've asked people who interact with the lectionary and study it. I always get vague answers, and by the nature of the document, we probably wouldn't have a record for "It is now set in stone for all time." The method of dating, to a man, has been "It doesn't include Revelation in any NT readings. It was made prior to Revelation being included in the canon in the Greek churches." This is a bit fuzzy, and nobody has primary sources for it. I think there's one line of MSS (Von Soden's Kr, IIRC) that does include Revelation in lectionary instructions written in the margins, but he dates it in the second millennium. This would indicate some substantial reform took place at least for some areas if his dating holds (and dating is always a very big "if"). There were also divergent services between monasteries and the world until they started getting standardized (which I believe was in the seventh century; I'll have to check Kucharik later). This probably also affected the lectionary, because it affected everything else. The lectionary history ishard to sort out, and it's hard to get good sources. There were also some liturgical reforms into the twentieth century (e.g. one of my favorite services went into disuse then was revived in the early 20th century). So, the "fifth century" date for setting it is a fuzzy date for the overall structure, at least as far as I can interact with it.

I do debate back and forth if it's worth having yet ANOTHER english New Testament on the market.
