The monochrome of the snow, huge cloud banks and double exhaust in the stillness of winter sunshine was stunning!

The fact that Galatea was even making headway up shap WITH LOAD 11 without a banker is credit to the crew on her footplate that day. Asking Jubilee to tackle shap with load 11 with a banker would be hard. Without one it's amazing she was still storming up it.

Don't forget boys its 90 mph line speed max up the old girl... Mind you flying up there in the Pendo's is easy peasy but with nearly 8000 hp on tap well I rest my case...

An amazing film - thanks for editing and sharing this compilation. Rather than the nuts and bolts close up of many films, you have kept a distance and under different lighting and weather conditions have really shown the power and "life" of the steam locomotive in the context of its natural surroundings. Fantastic! and a BIG thank you!

As romantic as steam is, for sheer efficiency and passenger speed you can see why on routes like this diesel and electric were needed and had to be if you were going to revive the railways.

Those were the days. I pass by this stadium most days - of course, it's been closed since 1997 and been a housing estate since 2010. A ghastly fate for such a great venue. Superb footage here - I presume it's some kind of cine-film? Clips like this are invaluable in preserving heritage and history. Long Eaton was such a great track. 175 takes the chequered flag - that would have been Glyn Pursey from Bromham, Bedfordshire. 2nd - No.68? was Allan Wilson from newton Aycliffe 3rd - No.395 was Mike Shirley from Coventry.
