Hi everyone, my name is Vasil and nature just had its was with my behind. I'm in the process of restoring a 1974 Columbia 45, which comes with many challenges. The boat is on a mooring ball in San Diego, leaving it exposed to the elements. In this episode I get humbled by mother nature because I was not prepared.

Oh bro, people don't make it all the time in Key West 😬... Yeah you want as close to bomber as possible with your dinghy motor set up! And ALWAYS be wearing a life jacket!

Also-you've removed almost all interior from your boat, made it lighter, that's the reason it rolls even harder Btw you really need to thing about swapping your rigging to dyneema, and maybe find adequate priced used carbon mast , because lighter rig-less heeling in all conditions. Sometimes even speed boost (that depends on Hull shape)

Carbon mast is probably an overkill, but dyneema-you definitely need to check it out

Thank you for bringing this to my attention!! Seriously! I did some research on this type of rigging, so much better and more practical than steel! Great timing on your part as well, I’ll need to replace the rigging in several months. Thank you, thank you, thank you very very much for the tip! I would have used stainless wire 😬 if not for your suggestion.

Will check out carbon mast as well, mine needs to be pulled regardless. Bilge water corroded my mast collar at the keel attachment. Any idea on how much they run?

@@ambiguousglobetrotter i don't know about costs, but if you are going to go carbon-you will need to find a way or a guy to check resin for degradation, as i see it- you will have more luck with paint covers carbon masts, than bare carbon, because direct sunlight would slowly be eating a way it's durability

Vasil is a shorter version of Vasiliy, or it's a separate name?

You are correct, Vasily would be the full name.
