rewatching this video for the second time and i just want to say that the way you speak up about injustices in the industry is extremely admirable! normally people would want to hide the more shameful parts of their job but i appreciate how open and candid you are

i'm planning to travel to a studio to ask questions abt piercing and become a regular client. the piercer said there will be a job opening for an apprentice soon and i'm hoping to give it a try. the issue is i start uni in october and i'm worried that becoming an apprentice would clash with my uni lectures. also i'd have to commute for slightly over 4 hours to reach the studio. but this studio has a really good setup, offers a variety of piercings like dahlias and angel fangs. it appeals to me so much but idk if i can manage my time efficiently

Tbh I dropped out of college to take an apprenticeship opportunity when it came up for me. I knew piercing was what I wanted to do and I knew the classes I would take in school were not going to get me closer to that goal. It’s different for everyone, and obviously you have to do what’s right for you. But if it’s a great and skilled studio with good jewelry whose going to pay you and teach you right…..that’s pretty worth it to me.

hi lynn! i am an apprentice piercer at my local shop and my shop charges half off for piercings by me, but i do not get any of that money besides tips. how should i go about talking to my boss about this?

I have some videos in my apprentice playlist that go over the law and requirements to be paid! You should be getting paid for your time- those videos may give you a better foundation to approach your bosses.

You have been so helpful, I have binged like 3 of your videos back to back. I have always known I wanted to be a tattoo artist or piercer but... I'm not that great with art honestly lmao, so piercing it is. I am pretty thorough with my research when it comes to things like this and all of your advice has been super helpful and instilled my want to be in this industry. Thanks Lynn

Would you not recommend for someone to become a piercer who has physical health issues like POTS? I would really love to be a piercer, but this video has me thinking that I might not be able to.

I mean i myself am a disabled piercer and I have many colleagues who are as well. It’s definitely harder for us, and I have to put in a lot of extra work to manage my health issues so they don’t effect my work. I think if you are able to do that, piercing is probably for you! But if you can’t, or your health could put yourself or your clients at risk, then a different career like working front/back of house or working for a jewelry company may be a safer way to still be in the industry.

Are there any apps to find apprenticeships? I’ve call almost all of my local piercing shops and it seems no one is taking apprenticeships.

Not really. For what it’s worth it took me four years to land my apprenticeship. It’s not an easy process- and it takes a lot of dedication, commitment to the process, and setting yourself apart. I compare it to trying to play pro sports- it’s about that level of competition to land an apprenticeship.

Honestly I’m a PROBLEM. I bring in like 46 photos that aren’t quite right, a vague description that includes a lot of gesturing, and then I show them how i style my hair for work vs at home and then I pray. Bless the stylists who work with me cause I know it ain’t easy. Currently I’d consider this a version of a mullet, with more of a shag for the bangs?

I juts watched another piercers video and he was talking about apprentices and they normally have to pay the piercer to work for them and get the knowledge they will teach you.

That is not legal in most states in America. There’s a reason apprentices have different laws then colleges.
