Real Families

6 жыл бұрын

Nicola and Louise argue, Tanya calls a house meeting, the Turners go on safari, the Cooksleys say goodbye to Lewis’ babyhood by sending his bottle away with the ‘bottle fairy’, and Lee proposes to Louise.
Presenter Claudia Winkleman guides the audience through a week-long journey at TV’s first ever child and parent behaviour refuge.
During their stay at the House of Tiny Tearaways, three families live together, while child psychologist Dr Tanya Byron works with both parents and children to solve issues around fussy eating, sleeping habits, and public tantrums - and she'll challenge the parents to get to the root of the problems they're experiencing raising their children.
With Dr Tanya Byron's help and advice, the hope is that the families will learn useful pedagogy techniques and gain new insights, giving them long-lasting support though the parenting challenges they're facing.
Real Families brings you stories of modern day family life from around the world through the eyes of children, parents, and parenting experts.

That fight was 100% Louse's fault. She was inconsiderate, she did get her back up when Nicola calmly called her on it, and she escalated what would have been a simple discussion into a fight by trying to play victim and make Nicola the bad guy. And then to swear like that in front of children?! SMH

Everyone is criticizing the women who had a row but their forgiveness was complete and sincere and that is a very good example to the children. Congratulations to both of you for being so forgiving and mature! But to just go to bed without a thought of her promise to meet is not very nice. And then when they were arguing Other Mum basically said that she was better than Nicola because she had a husband. At least in this instance she wasn't a very nice person at all!!!

I came across the Cookseys (?), Lewis' parents, in a later documentary. They now have an additional son, & it appears they've taken to hitting their sons for every little transgression. I don't believe the doctor would approve. Even the narrator thought it wrong & excessive. Very disappointing IMO. So now I'm thinking back to when, in this series, the father intentionally dropped Lewis to the ground when he got frustrated with him...he said he felt guilty & now I'm just wondering if there's more than meets the eye with these 2 parents. If all parents were given a one week intervention/a deep look in the mirror, a lot of tax money could be saved later on. So many problems starts when the kids are toddlers and it just spirals out of control. Kids don't misbehave - they are just imitating their environment and what they are taught.

Regarding the little dispute that began this episode - I'll pick a side. Nicole jumps on Louise, makes a huge deal over a minor matter then refuses to listen to Louise. After Louise stormed off ( this is where I fault Louise for the swearing and I'm pretty sure she flipped the bird to Nicole on her way out ) Nicole goes into other gals room and proceeds to stand at the edge of her bed while she sits there looking like she's in a nightmare, and Nicole rants about the quarrel she just had with Louise. WTF? I hope it's just nerves for Nicole because there's nothing worse than someone always in a drama. Louise should not have taken the bait but Nicole was planning the confrontation since the previous day. She's not there to stir things up with other families. She's there to work on her own.

Why is everyone in this comment section personally attacking the two mothers? Why are people viewing this as a black on white thing or a racism thing when it is simply not the case? It's two mothers who lost their temper in front of their children. Thats why they were there?!! To work on their home life and relationship with their children. Louise isn't attacking Nicola because she's black and Nicola isn't attacking Louise because she's jealous of her husband? This is a program about children and yet you're all being so childish? At the end of the day you only see what was aired. You can express your feelings about the argument without being downright nasty and ignorant. Both parties were equally as wrong in arguing in front of the children but everyone makes mistakes and say things they don't mean.

I do think Louise is the kind of person who does argue and will be blunt and perhaps rude. I am not saying she's a bad person, but even in the first episode Tanya was saying to Louise that she is a fighter and teaching her girls to be argumentative. I find her vibe slightly intimidating, I know that sounds stupid. She doesn't seem very flexible to me. It would have been a lot simpler if Louise just said "Yeah, sorry I didn't consider coming out to tell you I was going to my room, maybe I should have realized it was important to you" and that would have been the end of.

He’s a great kid, and he didn’t have behavior problems like this but I see I tried to keep him a baby for as long as possible because he was my only one.

I am sure this was a HUGE undertaking- building the house, selecting participants, filming, etc - and quite expensive. But, wouldn't it be wonderful if more families had access to resources like this and/or the expertise of someone like Dr. Byron? Look at the changes these families were able to make in just 6 days! I think that says that with proper guidance, most families could truly benefit from some of these skills and the outcome, years down the road, could be tremendously beneficial. I learned so much simply by watching this program, and those children are truly precious. Even when they kicked off, you could quickly see that these children were all good- they just needed the right messages. I sincerely hope these families all had continued success!

I hope Lewis's father stops the baby talk. Even after the boy was given the big boy cup, he called the liquid in it "milkies". Talk to him like a boy! Or when he hits school and asks for milkies he'll be a walking target.

I went crazy looking for the final(?) episode of this series, hoping someone had shared it. Then, I noticed the date of this video and was crestfallen. March 21st, 2018, so like the rest, I have to wait. The upside is that I really like the Nurture shows and have subscribed. Well done all! Sorry this is so long. The all of the children are precious and those who choose these parents were spot on for the good, bad and the ugly of it all. Hanna resonates for me but in reverse. I was the baby of the family being raised by the baby of the family. All too often I was expected to behave on a level higher than my age. This was a benefit and a bust as it turns out. My adult behavior garnered respect from my elders but drew a very dangerous grouping (but one at a time) collection of older men who managed to abuse me. Lesson learned about having children act younger or older than their respective age; NEVER allow your child more freedom just because they seem to handle being a little adult. This behavior may seem great on the surface of things, especially the "good in public" behavior, but it can attract very sick peoples attention. In reflection, teaching normal, expected manners is great, starting with their "public voice volume" and leading through all of the expected manors but preface these lessons with the stranger danger in a "soft sell", then closely timed but not on the same day, talk about good touch/bad touch and a harder sell on the stranger danger. Teaching a child these lessons as early as possible can actually have the potential to save their lives in more ways than one. Look into baby sign language if you wish to learn how to teach a child that can't speak.

Right you are. I would not tolerate someone in my face first thing in the morning when I went to bed at 3 a.m. with the man that proposed marriage earlier instead of returning outside to discuss a dinner invitation. The invitation could wait until morning instead of starting an argument. If we go through life expecting everyone to go along with our wishes, we will never be content.

Paul Cooksly is so annoying I'm sure Lewis cries simply out of shear misery listening to his goofy parents. Dad took away that treasure chest for NO REASON other than he didn't want Lewis sharing it with Dante. His greedy self was afraid Dante would make off with a piece of it. Then the way dad acted when Hannah came up to the dinner table to show of her giraffe. He sulked about being interrupted while feeding his little precious Lewis. (Brown yog-yogs and Big Boy Milkies. Cringe!) Ridiculous! These kids are ALL simply symptoms of their nutty parents. And that POOR little Dante! His mother was emotionally the equivalent of a 10 year old. And the girls parents were just simply in chronic bad moods. Period.

Is it really bad that this is supposed to be a house where the families come to deal with unruly CHILDREN and the mothers are acting far more bratty and immature than the children? Rather than calmly going to a private room away from the kids and discussing the simple misunderstanding about the dinner invitation, they are literally screaming and cursing over a simple misunderstand (in front of the children no less....great role-modeling moms) and I am about 10 minutes in and so far, the only misbehavior I have seen is the little girl hit her sister. I've seen worse kids on Supernanny. Same with Dante's mom....the doctor has shown her how her son is making progress with his sleep and he was even doing well eating and she just sits there like a thundercloud scolding him anyway. The only reason he got upset was his mother scolded him when she didn't need to. With Louis's family, I think Mom and Dad bring on a lot of the problems themselves. They were treating their son like a baby with the bottles and the pacifiers and so he was behaving like a baby. Their son threw a tantrum because they put up the treasure chest, but maybe if Mom had given him something else to do when the chest was put away, he wouldn't have gotten so upset. And then at the meal, they were complaining that the little girl "interrupted" Louis's dinner.....Her family had just come in and were talking to the doctor about their day.....what Dad should have done is said more firmly "Louis is eating his dinner now, sweetie. Can you please go play and I will talk to you in a bit. And they were encouraging him to eat, but Mom was eating potato chips in front of him. Thats just distracting him.. And they say the two little girls had ridiculously bad tantrums, but so far, I have seen more drama from their mother. When they were given clear expectations, they behaved beautifully, even when they were at the zoo. She had one little temper fit and in a minute it was over.

You never argue in front of children. They are there because they can’t handle their child it comes from their own upbringing and stubbornness. These people should never have children to begin with. They should take responsibility for themselves and their children.
