Some people say their first coat on the canvas is a 50/50 mix of glue and paint. Have you tried that? I also heard that Titebond 3 will not stick to it's self when it is dry. Thoughts?

Yes, dremels & other rotary tools are game changers on many jobs & I used them extensively doing antique repair/carving for those antiques. At one time I looked up dental rotary tools b/c I knew they hung up using just a shaft & I wanted a variable speed motor w/ a 4-5 foot shaft on it. This was in the early 80's when my family had a Shop where we stripped/refinished old furniture. Cool that they sent you one, I've been needing one again so I'm watching. Thanks for the review, peace.

I think a lot of this stuff is stolen tech, R+D cost money, and if the Chinese factory can just steal the design from their customer, the factory can save money allowing them to sell for less. If you are into stolen products I understand there are a lot of name brand tools that have been stolen from the big box stores available for a discount from side walk “stores” in the LA and SF area.

It's been worth it to me. I got a 1980's Rockwell table saw and a 14" Delta band saw from marketplace over the last few months and the only thing I had to do was to polish the tabletop of the table saw as it was coated in surface rust. The band saw was made right around the year 2000 but looked like it just came off the showroom floor. The thing still had the manual and a spare set of cool blocks in its original bag. In the future I will tear down the table saw to give it a good cleaning and possibly replace its bearings as, while everything works on it, it's a little stiff turning the control knobs and while the belt works fine for now, it is showing signs of beginning to crack from age. And since I'm going to be inside it anyway, why not change out the bearings. I gave $200 for the table saw and $430 for the band saw. The guy was asking $450 but gave me $20 back because he said I seemed like a nice guy and wasn't trying to haggle with him. I said, "Well, when I see a price, I figure that's what they want so that's what I pay if I want it. If they're asking more than what I want to spend, I just look elsewhere."

I work on the False Creek Ferries at Grandville Island. Our boats use a roll up canvas that have a transparent panel at the viewing level. The whole "door" rolls up and is secured by a snap buckle, or on the smaller ferries, a twist fastener is used and the canvas is removed in good weather. Just Google: False Creek Ferries and click on Images. You will see lots of pictures of the arrangements. Have fun deciding on a method for your mini boat!

Loved your testing and effort. Have a question about the ironing. Is the glue set before you start forming and smoothing or still wet or tacky? Interested in what if any hurdles you had with that. I’m building props for my kids marching band that need something like this to stand up to high schoolers.
@adrianwoodworm
@adrianwoodworm 15 күн бұрын
I applied the canvas right after brushing on the glue. I needed the glue to soak into the wood as well as into the canvas for a good bond. I ironed out all the wrinkles while the glue was still wet. The evaporating moisture from the glue helps to get a perfectly smooth surface. After that, I waited overnight for the glue to completely harden before I applied the first coat of paint. It is a straightforward process, and I wasn't struggling with anything, really. Thank you for watching, and good luck with your project! Cheers!

I only have two things to say to this video. 1: How is it that you had never heard of Banggood? If there is no plywood to 12:17 minimized weight, will paint canvas hold up a dome shape structure? Wonder how PMF can hold up uv?
@adrianwoodworm
@adrianwoodworm 20 күн бұрын
I never tried PMF without plywood backing, so I can't really speak about that. UV light is not a problem. Out of all the finishes you can apply to wood or canvas, paint is the most UV resistant one.
@VITAKENNY
@VITAKENNY 20 күн бұрын
0:26 I think it will be like wet canvas frozen. It can not hold up the shape with little external force apply, but again has to do with built size to material thickness ratio. If model size, could hold up, if life size will not. Expotential relationship. I am also study the other u tuber using only foam with ur technique to build a trailer. His is all about weight conservation. Ur is about $... Just like fiber glass boat under the uv too long will deteriated. Another tuber use heavy duty recycle corrugated cardboard to build a round shelter. 0:26

Is it possible to make a 2-story? Or perhaps a 3-story?
@adrianwoodworm
@adrianwoodworm 22 күн бұрын
If you increase the footprint of the boat, then I would say yes. If you keep the square footage as small as my boat, then you will get in trouble as soon as the wind blows. Without a heavy keel, it would just roll over. The walls of a 2-3story boat would act as a giant sail, so you either have a very low center of gravity to counter that, or you increase the square footage to stabilize the boat, especially in width. Of course, all of that comes with major problems when it comes to transportation on the roads.

I order from Banggood since 2020 . 4 out of 5 times I am very satisfied. Only two times purchases really disappointed me because of poor quality. First time, Banggood refused any settlement as the product was as described - and description did not say anything about quality. Second time, Banggood refunded me. Descriptions for my purchases were always accurate yet eventually not always complete :) . One thing to consider, especially when you purchase products with "consumables" as saw blades: it may be hard to get spare parts. So, if you hope to get spare parts, maybe focus on some "local" brand. But things like rulers, clamps, fences, miters, etc. all have been bought from Banggood and are of very good quality. Also, maybe not buy the cheapest version at Banggood, since also they have differences in quality reflecting in the price.

I'd do a clear and/or white corrugated roof so you can fold up two 4x8 foot sheets for transportation. Then for the walls you can do a roll up tarp, ideally a clear and opaque layer so you can still see while driving in poor weather and have privacy when needed. I would do the same for the doors, but give them three layers an opaque, a clear and a mesh layer so you can have ventilation with bug protection at the front and back. Love the modular design!

Banggood is similar to Amazon, a big mail order conglomerate that's, "HiT -n- Miss" on the quality side but prices are generally decent. I've bought a Watch Tool for taking backs off to change batteries & a Jewelry tester to detect fake diamonds/stones plus a digital jeweler's scale that adds up what you have from 6kt - 24kt gold. The scale was very nice but the Watch Tool was kinda flimsy & felt cheap. The stone tester works so I guess it good. All of these were inexpensive so I can't complain. Also I bought some fishing items ; hooks, swivels, ect.... the hooks were not very sharp but everything was cheap, money wise and the quality but they're are like Amazon so you can get some good quality things but sending stuff back to China might be more of a hassle than it's worth? Overall they were middle of the road but all was in one place. Thanks for your review. I had forgot about these guys but now I'm gonna LQQK again. peace

I do have experience with temu, and so far, they have been excellent. They just sent me my money back instead of requesting a return. They let me keep the products that I wasn't happy with without even asking what the issue was. Maybe Banggood deals the same way with returns/refunds? Cheers!

About those round sanding discs there are some moments to consider. Firstly the sandpaper is not as good as a quality one that costs more. But, more important than this is that some of them are just cut from large sheet. So, many of the disks have no gritt number. That makes them almost useless.
@adrianwoodworm
@adrianwoodworm 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for adding your input! I agree with what you said. You can solve the missing grit by keeping them organized and sperate them right from the beginning. The quality of the sandpaper is not the best indeed, but it works well enough for me.

Good comparison video and excellent commentary at the end. I have no issue buying Chinese-made products. Most Western brands are made in China, so why not buy Chinese brands? If the price and quality are right, it makes sense. The hand planes I buy (here in Australia) are from an Australian brand but are made in China. I buy them instead of going to the source manufacturer because of warranty support. If it has a problem I can just go back to the shop I bought it at instead of having to ship it back to China. Just watch the Chinese car manufacturers over the next 5-10 years. They will end up just as good quality as anything made in the US, Japan or Korea, but at a better price point. They're not there yet, but they will be. The main concern I have about the likes of Temu, Banggood and AliExpress is where a product is clearly an identical copy of a different brand, effectively theft of the IP. That's not OK.
@adrianwoodworm
@adrianwoodworm 28 күн бұрын
I agree with everything you said. We live in a world where we don't really have a choice anymore. We are so dependent on Chinese products that it would be nearly impossible to avoid them if you would try. I just read an article about Chinese car manufacturers ramping up the production and quality. I think your comment was spot on. Just give them another 5-10 years, and we will have another big player on the field. Also, I totally agree that the theft of patents and designs is not acceptable on any level. It goes way beyond being competitive in a global market. It simply crosses a line. Unfortunately, it is very hard to identify as a consumer. I couldn't tell you if the design of any of the reviewed tools was stolen or not, for example. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Cheers!
