The shop I worked at 25 years ago used the Sunnen soft hone brushes which produced a cylinder finish vert similar to the cylinder finish produced after a short break in. There fore a break in was not needed and you could go directly to the race track or dyno with full load pulls.

So, how do you know if you're getting a paper or wire screen filter? Both filters you showed looked pretty similar to me

The wire screen filters are the washable/reusable type.

I thought I heard that variable cam timing was controlled by oil pressure so changing the viscosity could affect Cam timing negatively. I do use thinker gear oils for my truck the the manufacture says to as I know they want better MPG with the thinner oils. I would rather have more protection.

I would like to know what the difference is from regular automotive oil and Motorcycle oil. Is there a difference that warrants the extra cost of the motorcycle oil vs regular oil?? I personally think there is no difference but it would be nice to know.

I‘m using 100 Octane in my straight injection engine, which costs me about $2.20 per Litre. I know its expensive, but I would rather keep my car running well instead of getting engine damages because of residues.

In Puerto Rico all major brands use Top Tier gas only. You could say older cars have the cleanest fuel systems. Newer cars, may have build-up on the intake valves.

Well I’ll throw an idea out there. I check my oil at a lab ( Blackstone) and I have noticed that metal particles don’t level off till 50k-60k miles. So when is the car engine really broken in?
@TotalSeal
@TotalSeal 18 сағат бұрын
That’s an exceedingly long time for that to happen. Wear metals should normally level off in about 10,000 miles.

@@TotalSeal thanks for the feed back. I pamper the engine a lot. Rarely get it above 4000 rpm. Maybe not the best way to break in an engine.

Filter media life. I worked for BMW while they transitioned from 3-5,000 mile Conventional oil chg. intervals to Synthetic oil and 15,000/ oil condition service indicator light intervals. The plain BMW cellulose-based oil filters quickly hardened, collapsed, cracked and broke up . Then quickly BMW (Mann) filters contained a Synthetic media to last the ridiculous BMW Free Maintenance intervals. Its amazing how many leasing customers refused to bring cars in even once a year for free oil changes. The engines were sludge boxes after 30k to 45k miles. Warranty canceled, all claims denied. Customers pays for stupidity and engine overhaul. Pkease conduct an oil filter comparison. Its ss important ss the oil it self . Congratulations on this great channel. A lubricants gold standard. 🛢️💦👍👍👍👍👍🏆

Is there a fuel additive i can put in the tank with regular fuel to make it top tier? Or is it more than additives? I know everything will probably say Techron, but is that actually tested and true?

I Bet This Is Why My New Engine Always Smoked Out The Crankcase. It A Hydrolic Roller Cam And I Thought Engine Break In Was No Important. I Ran No Break In Oil And Drove It Extremely Light First 500 Miles. It Had About .028" Ring Gap On A 3.810 Bore So i Thought Thats Why It Smoked Out The Breather. Definitely Going To Take Brake In More Seriously After Spending $2,000 On A New Set Of 6 Custom Pistons.

The Ow has more additives that break down over time than the 5w or 10w. The lower the range, the less additives. I was using Castrol Edge 5w40 which was oem for my turbo car. Now I'm doing Castrol Edge 0w40 which had a higher lube rating than the 5w40 but more additives which break down. The 0 should pump faster on start up which prevents wear. The engine seems happy with either and I'm in the Pacific Northwest so we don't have extreme hot or cold weather. I'll just use whichever is cheaper or available..lol I do 10k full synthetic oil changes and filter. 72k and runs like new. Mazda mpv V6 ran Mobil 1 5w30 at 10k oil changes and ran like new for 150k miles and sold car. Cheers

I keep looking through these hoping to see Lake Speed Sr show up. I miss the glory days of NASCAR. I run 5/30 in my wife's Chrysler and 0/20 in my Alfa, just as the manufacturer recommends. No problems and we run them long and hard on trips (300+ miles between stops @80mph).

I just saw another test where the Amsoil screen backed, filtered best between 22 and 30 microns, but was slightly restrictive compared to the Purolator Boss screen backed. Which company makes the filter is another factor. Napa filters were all made by Wix at one time. But not any more. The Napa screen backed filtered tighter than the Wix XP in a recent test by Brand Ranks. Based on your test and what I have seen, I would use the paper/synthetic fiber filter and not go more than 4 to 5K miles on an oil change. Preferably with a bypass filter installed in addition to the factory filter.
@tarquineous
@tarquineous 3 күн бұрын
Your test also tells me that a bypass filter is a great thing to have on an engine, in addition to a quality factory type filter.

Wix screen backed filters and Purolator screen backed are 22 micron rated. I don't understand why you would use a 35 micron filter. Also Royal Purple screen backed are 22 micron rated, and may be made at Champion labs, like the Purolator Boss.

Great video!! Thanks for posting! I've been using Amsoil oil filters over 30+ years. FYI: "AMSOIL Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 99 percent at 20 microns - one of the best ratings on the market. Some competitors also claim 99 percent efficiency, but at larger particle sizes of 30 to 40 microns."

Amsoil 20w-50 racing oil reduces friction around the rings and can drop engine temps by 50 degrees. This is why those who know what Amsoil does love to put this oil in their Harleys. Amsoil even makes oil just for this bike.

Power decrease or engine damage doesn’t really happen in one hour! It happens over extended periods of metal particulates in an operating engine.
@TotalSeal
@TotalSeal 3 күн бұрын
Wrong, it can certainly happen in that amount of time when the rate of wear is high.

I have some 100k, 50k, 20k, grit diamond abrasives in syringes I got from a place that was shutting down. I bought some laptops from an auction and that’s where the pick up was at. They threw all this stuff away while cleaning out but it was pretty clear to me they were making hydraulic cylinders and things like that. I was like oh well I’ll help myself I can use some 100k grit stuff. There’s not a lot but I can use to lap heatsinks on pc’s for flatter surfaces and better cpu cooling. I suppose I could use it on crankshaft or something if needed as well to polish.
