You and I are going to drink a lot of coffee together. Like, borderline dangerous amounts of coffee.
So, first things first. Pour yourself a mug and I’ll introduce myself real quick.
My name’s Jordan - but everyone calls me “J” - and I’m a 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee.
I’m also strength & nutrition coach, I hold several powerlifting world records, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my writing featured in a variety of outlets like CNN, the Huffington Post, and Schwarzenegger.com.
But listen.
This channel isn’t for fame, publicity, cash, props, fist bumps, likes, pings, pows or whatever else there is.
It’s a place where you and I can chat.
I’ll never sugar coat, lie, or beat around the bush. I’ll tell you everything exactly as I see it. Some stuff you might like. Others you might not.
And that’s totally cool.
Either way, my goal here is to create a discussion. A place where you and I can get together, exchange ideas, and motivate each other to be better every day.
Like I said, we’re gonna drink a lot of coffee together - borderline dangerous amounts - but I’m excited. Because there aren’t too many online communities in which the sole purpose is to inspire and motivate one another.
And that’s exactly what you and I are going to do here.
To your success,
-J

Apple Watch please! I’ve heard it’s really accurate but would love your take. The steps between my Fitbit and Apple Watch vary greatly.

I was literally googling about the accuracy of my step counter. I have been obsessing about it and this video was so well timed.

I had a fitbit a couple years ago and it used to track my movement when crocheting as steps and calories burned! Crazy! Now I have a samsung that is synced with my phone to track my steps and I calculate calories and activity on "loseit" as well. As long as they are mostly the same, I'm good.

I love my Garmin ... however, it, like most fitness watches, is dependent on arm swing for step counting. So, when you abandon normal arm swing, like when you were talking during your walk and gesturing, rather than swinging, it's naturally going to undercount. Likewise for pushing a grocery cart or stroller. No swing, fewer steps counted. That said, I agree with you that the number is less important than the habit of regular movement. I don't stress the number either. Sometimes I have to use my walking stick for balance, I don't get great step count then. But I'm still moving!

Hi Jordan and Mitch! Great video! Could you do the Fitbit next please? I got one to track my steps because it was the most option for me and have been using it consistently for almost two years. Now I also use it for half marathon training but I’m curious about how accurate it actually is at tracking distance as well as steps. Thanks so much for your content 🙏

i love this concept. I can apply it to my weighing/measuring and tracking my food. My husband thinks i'm a bit insane measuring all the things i eat, stating, there is no way to precisely know what calories are in anything. True, but measuring and portion control put things into perspective and keep you on track. Overall, the measuring device may not be 100% accurate all the time, however the difference is not really significant

I love my Garmin as well. I really think it's just more important to have a consistent method of tracking. For me I'm just worried about comparing today to yesterday, regardless if the count is 100% accurate of not.

Curious about the accuracy of the step counter on the iPhone in the “health” app. I noticed it doesn’t track steps when I use walking pad so it must be via distance covered? Thanks for your content Jordan 😊

I work in a bakery and am always walking while pushing carts and racks but I noticed my Apple Watch also counts steps when I am packaging things with my arms moving a lot but I’m standing fairly still. I’d love to see an experiment like that.

On my Apple I enter my height so my stride is considered. There is a way to calculate your stride even more accurately but their calculation is close enough for me. I would love to see the Apple Watch evaluated. I just use it to keep track of myself accountable. I am 85 and get my 8000 steps in everyday.

Long time Garmin user here. My guess is that because you're talking and therefore making gestures with your hands during the walk, Garmin misses some of the steps. Garmin has a foot pod now, maybe try that comparison?
