Our entire solar power system is completely FINISHED! We have built a 13,000 watt solar power plant! Today we are firing the system up and turning everything on in our modern home to see how it handles the load on a completely cloudy day. We are also flashing back to a quick timelapse of how we got here. From moving to raw land with no running water or electric to now, having a solar system capable of running our entire home!

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.

My wife and I are coming up, (exactly 2 yrs.) on 40 years together. The one thing I can look back on is the love, the laughter, the complete happiness and joy of spending time together brought to the each of us. I see those same ingredients in your relationship. Josh, Your pride and enthusiasm over an extremely well engineered and installed off grid solar system is understandable. As a master electrician who worked commercial and industrial and now solar if you ever should need to subsidize your income then consider consulting solar off grid projects as it would be a natural.

Its the greatest feeling in the world being your own boss. To get up every morning and work on your home and build the foundation of a wonderful family is priceless. I truly admire the work and effort all of you have accomplished and its more than a pleasure watching such a loving relationship come through the camera. I just got back from a visit with my son and they had 4 kids, 2 lambs, while I was there, but they lost a calf because of the crappy weather Oregon has been getting for the last few weeks. First, they had a hellacious ice storm without power for 6 days, with trees coming down all over the place, then it started raining for days and days, making their ground slimy so bad, they found the poor calf stuck in the mud under a downed tree. One good thing that has come from all this suffering is my son is getting all sorts of lumber for his small mill.

You should look into Geothermal Heat Pumps. I am sure you would love that. So low maintenance.

Yeh, so many home owners in Europe do install that now. It is like their solar system. Expensive to setup but after you are done it runs on its own. Wood heating is very very time consuming.

I honestly don't think you're ever going to need to run that beautiful new generator. What a system!

Perhaps. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Plenty of things could happen to damage that solar array, like a windstorm blowing debris into it, or livestock getting rambunctious. Backup generator is nothing but a smart move.

Yes, back-up is wise to have in advance , esp. in remote areas where may be hard to get to, or find in time, a genset, just like when util. Grid fails. It's very rare to have damage (would take tornado winds to damage that ground array) & let only sheep keep grass under it trimmed🌻 note: System CAN be made EMP hardened.🌄

You have raised a find young man there, know that his brother and sister watch him and will follow him every where and do as he does.
