Mary couldn't have had been born in sin in order to have Christ. You can't have God who is entirely good and holy come from original sin... it's just not possible reasonably. And having a ritual to have God purely by evading sexual sin wouldn't make much sense. Sin is in the heart and Mary was given a grace to be spared from the stain of original sin. The only other option than that is the immaculate conception. And there is an issue with saying passions are always wrong in the procreative act.
