So, make heaps of journals and have stock of empty/naked ones from cardboard boxes and book covers. I don't tend to use mass-produced single-use materials such as stickers and transfers and make a lot of my own ephemera from old books I find for pennies or free. I do decorate some of my books and enjoy the process and looking at them when I'm done. I enjoy finding my materials and have a craft shop's worth of stuff in my stash. I think the kit route is the way for me...

6:32 So, about selling at a craft fair, I would sell kits to make the journal because you may have people that like to craft come through and buy the kit to make their own. If they don't sell, then you can still use the material to make one and sell. I would also have a few select premade journals for those that may want to purchase one already made and also for ideas for the kits. If you also set up in a shop and do the same thing, you could get a better chance of returning customers and even travelers. Plus you don't have to stay with your booth and you get more than just a couple of days to sell. 😊

I appreciate your honesty on this subject but If I may, I believe that my junk journals are more profitable then my jewelry making, All my jewelry is not mass produce. I create one of the kind pieces . You mentioned with jewelry that you take one picture and that is it, i have to disagree. I take many pictures , and the time that is placed into marketing them in addition to the displays to make my jewelry look appealing from all sides. as well as, to mentioned, with jewelry its a personal item and harder to sell depending on your audience. I also believe that a You tube channel takes effort to promote but i find it rewarding. Yes, it is hard work but is that not with anything? Again, i find your content very informative but i think it depends on the person creating and how much time spent. Can you live off of this? perhaps not but i believe if your ready to work hard, anything can happen. Your working hard for yourself not for someone else. Please don't take this the wrong way, just speaking from a different perspective. This is coming from a person that ,it does work for and loving everyday of it. Sometimes i have to Reorganize my time wisely, which I believe is the key. Again, thank you for opening this content up.

Thanks so much for making this video. I just scored a large box full of Little Golden Books today at a library book sale. They only charged me a couple of dollars for the whole lot. Looking forward to sorting through them all tomorrow using what I’ve learnt from your video! 😀 There seem to be a lot of Disney ones so maybe not quite as old as yours.

One thing going into effect in US in 2024:If you transact more than $600 per year worth of income from selling or providing a service you must be a registered company and have a Tax ID. Second, you should be able to ship a junk journal through "Media Mail" (AKA Book Rate) as it falls under the category as "Bound Printed Material". and the package only contains the journal. It is about half the rate of First Class. You are 100% when you say you MUST keep your personal funds and your business money separate! If you dont, you are settlng yourself up for falure and end up in the hole. I used to sell Avon and had reps under me that I brought in and that is what I stressed to them. Those who failed, failed because they mingled those funds.
@KittywittyPapercraft
@KittywittyPapercraft 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! The $600 rule has to do with receiving payments through third party applications like PayPal and Venmo (which is how most of us receive payment). If you are a sole proprietorship, you still do not have to register your business or get a Tax ID. Those are required for LLCs and other corporations, but sole props can opt not to do that. Regarding Media Mail, I looked into this quite a bit and technically, because junk journals are handcrafted goods and not books published and printed by a publisher, they do not fall under the category of media mail. Even though they contain book pages and are bound, they are not mass produced, printed and bound publications, so do not meet the criteria. The USPS has the right to refuse to deliver or to destroy packages that are shipped as the wrong class. I would hate to risk that! 🙈 I appreciate you watching and sharing!! Happy new year! 🤗🩷💛🩵

In the early 1960's my little brother became obsessed with the little childrens books that were shaped instead of squarish. If there was a big apple on the cover the book was shaped like the apple. A book with the face of a puppy on it was puppy face shaped. He was crazy about them.

@@KittywittyPapercraft I remember my favorite golden book was Little Black Sambo. Those wonderful clothes he had, the tigers, the tigers running around the tree until they turned to butter, and the stacks of pancakes in the end. Topped with tiger butter! It was a book I never forgot.

I had that baby doll crib when I was a child. My mom saved it in the attic when I out grew playing with dolls. When I had a daughter of my own, my mom surprised me as I did not know she still had it. She brought it over so my daughter could now have the doll crib to play with. My daughter, who is now grown, has a little girl of her own. She is now 13, however when she was younger she also played with her baby dolls and the crib. Someday, in the future, if she has a little girl, it will be passed to her daughter and she will also get to play with the crib.

This is exactly the inspiration and ideas I needed to start my JJ! My girlfriend and I got together the other day to start our journals, tore out pages from our hardback books, made pockets with the book pages, etc., but I started losing momentum while she forged ahead. I'm a scrapbooker and very visual so needed to see it come to life as I worked. It was always going to be Christmas, but I couldn't figure what all I wanted to do with it even though I have tons of stuff ready to put in and of course, pictures. But your story about how you decided to make your book really rang a bell with me! It was exactly what I needed and your flip through gave me so many ideas for using stuff I had forgotten I even had (ephemera hoarder!) And I realized that I will be happier decorating as I go, instead of "getting the book ready" first. So anyway, thank you for the inspiration and Merry Christmas 2023!
