Little bit heat and cold (freeze spray or entire assembly in a freezer then heat only a part) usually works wonders, usually...

A great haul! I think it is a very good thing that when craftsmen pass away their tools find new homes with new craftsmen, rather than just being discarded.

Chuck, the adeptech vise is probably the best option for the puller legs. i recently tried a similar thing and the tooling just ripped the part out of the vise jaws, scrapped the end mill and boogered up the part. the other option is to mount it in a 4 jaw chuck on the lathe and turn it to thickness, although that will be an interrupted cut and pretty hard on machine and tooling. incidentally, the puller looks a lot like one Kukko makes. i wouldn't be surprised if that was patterned off of it. one thing i learned about tooling purchases is that when you think you won't need a specific cutter and you sell it off, the next week you need that exact cutter. i have so much stuff in my collection that i will most likely never use, but i'm hanging on to it for just that reason. this last year i picked up a large collection of cutters and end mills from an independent contractor who hurt his back and was forced into medical retirement. the sharpening service i use, gives me a package deal when i bring them large posts of cutters for sharpening. last year i did this with a bunch of drill bits and a set of stubby drill bits i made and it worked out pretty well. the price may have been a bit eyewatering, however when extrapolated out to an individual piece, the sharpening only amounted to a few cents per piece. so if you have a sharpening service you have a good working relationship with, that might be a good option for when buying used tooling. to put this a bit into perspective: adding all the end mills up and calculating the price for a package sharpening, i'm looking at 5 to 6 hundred euro for the sharpening and 250 for the tooling. if i had to buy this stuff new (all german manufacture) i'm looking at about 25000eur ... so quite a disparity

My friend at work made a massive Kant Twist Clamp:) It could open a little over 1 foot ! It had all the copper parts too. Fun being a Tool & Die Maker and having free time at work. One slow day, I made a vise for waxing my snowboard. I went to a store and asked them if I could go back and see how their vise looks for waxing and so I did. They showed me and instantly I understood what it should be like. the crappy one they had was close to $1000. I made mine, 100% aluminum except for the threaded rod, wow, so deluxe! Took me the full day to make it pretty but I just love it.. works perfectly and both jaws open from the center to about 19" at fully open.... good for absolutely anything.

I bought a mighty mag magnetic base to put an indicator on the lathe, I use it longitudinally and transversally, it is very helpful, before I worked with fear of making a mistake in the finishing cut, now I am sure of how many thousandths I am cutting. greetings from Mexico

Your lathe has a ward-Lenard drive. This is a signal amplifier that uses mechanical components to amplify an input signal. A true marvel. It creates a DC voltage to drive the main motor. Otis used ward-Lenard’s in elevators well into the 1980s!

My biggest complaint about the pit barrel is that it won’t stay lit. I have tried several methods that I’ve seen online, but the back part just won’t stay on. First I thought it was the ash pan filling up and not allowing air to reach the back. I then tried different charcoal brands and types. Same thing. Did you ever experience this? Any advice?
@outsidescrewballАй бұрын
thanks for viewing, I would assume you know there is a round adjustable cover at the bottom exterior of the barrel. This vent needs to be adjusted for the area that you live in. Assuming you have done this and it is adjusted correctly, (or open it up completely as a test) then I might think that you are not allowing the initial fire with vent set and lid off to get to the charcoal to a level of primary combustion....basically a majority of the charcoal have turned grey in color and show a visible flame....at that point the air flow from the vent creates a venturi for the fire to vent thru the 4 holes at the top of the barrel

@@outsidescrewball thanks for responding. I will make sure next time majority of coals are lit and see if that helps.

I thing if you tapped the pipe with a hammer you might not need the press. The shock from the hammer might be easier and the chuck would come off just fine. Moderate taps though.
