Light is made by God and is a Science. Good job. I would add that the intensity of light, or lumens is also based on the size of space you are in, the area. You did mention that.

I want to buy tomato powder and have it NOT turn into an unusable rock. Does freezing glass jars of tomato powder result in the powder not absorbing humidity and thus NOT turning into a rock?

Where is the rest of the video? I want to see what it look like. By the way chef, please remember to wash your hands after touching the pork after you placed it in the slow cooker. You touched the measuring cup, lid, the clamps and the button, to avoid contamination and getting sick. Just my 2 cents. Practice makes perfect.

Great video. I also want to mention there are varieties that don’t have bare branches in cold, you can buy. They keep leaves that often turn reds and bronze, just in case someone wants one more pretty to put up against house for not only fruit but landscape purposes.

Yeah, I use a homemade organic mix also. This video was meant for beginners who would find that overwhelming in my experience. Since my old flourecsernt system went out and you cant find replacements for it , I had to go to the same unit you show here . I for one hate the change in light sysems being that many of my tomato seedlings under the lights turning yellow. Guessing I had the light too close and for too long.

Yes, I agree. The fluorescent lights were much better and easier on the plants. It helps to turn the lights off and give them a little less time under the lights.

I live just 15 miles north of you and im curious if you leave your blueberries out over the winter? Everything i read about chill hours says 32-45 degrees but it gets MUCH colder here as you know. Will they survive outside below freezing? Does it make a difference if theyre in the ground or in a container?
@DorothyStainbrook
@DorothyStainbrook 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I have 600 plants growing in the ground so they definitely stay out all winter. They are 20 years old now and have made it through every winter. It's much more difficult if you grow them in pots, mostly because they tend to bloom early when you take them indoors and then the bees can't pollinate them and they drop their blossoms. You have to time getting them outside which can be tricky.

I had six blueberries in large pots that were doing quite well until our local tribe of racoons decided they wanted to see what was in the pots. They dug up the plants and tossed them After three tries I gave up.

I love that this is a simple acidic mix. You mentioned apply elemental sulfur in the fall, some say sulfur only breaks down when temps are above 50 degree. Thx
@DorothyStainbrook
@DorothyStainbrook 2 ай бұрын
Hmm, I haven't ever heard that but I will check into it. It's definitely a slow release and I just scratch it into the soil and let the rain and snow break it down into the compost. It has seemed to work, but maybe it's breaking down all summer. I see what others say....

This is a really cool idea! Do you know if you could bring this inside during the winter months to keep it going for more than 1 year?
@DorothyStainbrook
@DorothyStainbrook 3 ай бұрын
The pepper would be the easiest to keep alive during the winter, the tomato is possible but more difficult and the cilantro will bolt in the summer but you could grow more cilantro on the window sill. Just know that the plants will not produce as much indoors and that the shortened daylength of winter will slow their growth also. It's worth a try, but just don't get discouraged if it doesn't work well.

Well, those pots are not clay but rather some sort of lightweight plastic material. I think I got them at a local garden store, but they are probably 15 years old so I don't really remember. So sorry not to be more helpful!!

Yeah, the beefsteak and heirloom tomatoes definitely have more flavor. It's just that they're harder to grow and I think growing tomatoes in pots is much more difficult than in the ground, so they offer an easy alternative.

Ive seen this light shown on multiple vids on you tube sad thing is the vids are 2-3 yrs old and can no longer find them, although these vids keep running as if they did. In my area in the mid-west the same light cant be found and for that price. I tried at 6 different outlets. WM dont have this options here.

I would love to get the very same light system, but sadly have checked and not even one WM out of 6 in my area has it. I ended up going with a wraparound. Not what I wanted but will give it a try.

Yes, the videos on youtube stay on forever, and so many of them are going to be pretty old. I think I bought mine 4-5 years ago and I haven't checked prices since then. Hopefully your wraparound will bring you success!

This might be the best explanation of lights, lumens, distance, etc... I've seen. So many people try to talk about wattage which you know has nothing to do with anything except the amount of energy the bulb uses, not what it produces. The best part is you put it all in simple English for everyone to understand.

I grew Opalka, Federle, Amish Paste, and Bremmer this year. I really liked Amish Paste and Bremmer the best but will give the others a re-trial next year- We had a tough early season and anything late did better. Making powder for the first time and batch 1 turned out great. Thanks for some ideas on how to use and store. I'll be using my vacuum machine with the mason jar vacuum attachment. If using salt, how much per cup of tomato powder? TY
@DorothyStainbrook
@DorothyStainbrook 2 ай бұрын
I'm sorry I can't answer your question on salt. I like salt and use probably 1/8 part salt to 1 part tomato powder, but it is really personal. I'm growing Federle for the first time this year btw....read good things about this variety.

Oh!! So glad I found you! I'm in zone 4 west central Minnesota. It's hard to find good info on KZfaq for our area. I planted two blueberries last late late summer, they were on clearance. But both the same variety, now I for sure will go get a couple different varieties, as you say. I did put peet moss in the holes when I planted. We have high pH soil here. They are still alive! Is there anything special I need to do now in the spring? For soil pH I guess I am meaning. fertilizer too?
