When it comes to invest in real estate, do i have to buy a home in cash or do they accept that i will have a 200k bankloan? Thanks in advance

@@lolfish-prime7009 Hi. Thank you for watching and commenting. To qualify for Investor residency you need to show US$150,000 in cash investment. The loan portion would be a liability that would not be included in the calculation

Saw this video while working on itinerary for trip to Costa Rica. I was intrigued and had the flexibility to add a couple of days at John’s Airbnb to the trip. What a great decision that was. John’s place is a work of art and the room is 5 star. Two bedrooms and a kitchenette. It overlooks the brook and gardens. The grounds are 3 1/2 acres of magic. I think it is impossible to capture it in photos. But if you want a get away to relax and decompress I cannot recommend enough. John invited us into his home and shared all kinds of insights about the culture of Costa Rica and how to travel symbiotically with the country. He elaborated on what it is like living in Costa Rica . He shared many stories about his trials and tribulations experiences while creating this special get-away. It was much like a continuation of the video except in person. Check out the link in the video description to learn more about this special Airbnb

Hi thank you for sharing that information. The best is to avoid traveling during the peak hours which is 7 to 10 AM and then in the afternoon after 4 PM since that is when many commuters travel from San Jose and Cartago to work and back.

0:20 31 miles? Later on - 4000 ft, temps in the 60's to mid 70''s. Why do you USAmericans have such a difficult time with metric? It's a metric country. Adapt. Just use it, don't convert to what you know best. I know USAmericans down here for 20 years, that still use Fahrenheit for temperature, and can't grasp Celsius at all. It's sad.

Thank you for opening up this sensitive subject for conversation. I hope the day never comes when Costa Rica wants to build a wall. But I wouldn't balame them if they did. Indeed there is no quick fix or solution to how people move across the land and how they impact it. We should all tread lightly and respectfully. Native and local people EVERYWHERE have these same mixed feelings. It seems like the excessive first class American, German and Canadian Gringos are dominating and throwing money at the booming Eco-Tourism industry. So their intention is an attept to allign with the Pura Vida vibe. Sorry again for our little barking dog 😅
@CostaRicaLaw18 күн бұрын
Hi. Thank you for watching the video and commenting. Yes, you are correct in your observation about the movement of people across different countries and their impact. As long as the local population sees it as a benefit then there is harmony and when they don't then bitterness sinks in. It generally happens when they don't see the financial benefit of the influx.

How long is the residency good for??
@CostaRicaLawАй бұрын
Hi and thank you for watching. The initial residency card that you will receive is good for two years. You will then have to file for a renewal of your card which will be granted for an additional two years. At the three mark you can also apply to switch to permanent residency if you wish. As a permanent resident you no longer have to prove the pension income requirement.

If I need to have the document translated. Do I do that before the apostille ? Or after

We generally have it apostilled first and then hire a translator to translate since the signature of the translator would have to be notarized and apostilled separate since your document would have two signatures.

I was married to a Dominican woman who could not understand why it was offensive to be called a gringo. Being from the United States should not make you a gringo. I fully understand the meaning of the word In Spanish. I'm 59 and I'm not going live in a country where I prove my myself by how well I speak español language.

I am planning to move permanently to Costa Rica with my 31 year old son. I could qualify either under the Pensionado/ Investor category but my son would qualify only as an Investor - we are purchasing a home there together for in excess of $300,000 US and he will contribute just over $150,000 US. My question is, knowing I need to make a monthly CAJA contribution based on my declared pension income from Canada, would my son be required to contribute to CAJA? Under a temporary residency status, he cannot be employed and of course has no pension or other income. He does plan to start a small "odd job" business to make services available for primarily retirees or anyone that needs work done around their properties or assistance with IT. He would file Costa Rica taxes and my thinking is, based on whatever his business income is, would then start making CAJA contributions! Any thoughts?
@CostaRicaLawАй бұрын
Hi and thank you for watching. If you apply for Pensionado or Investor then you would have to contribute to Caja CCSS - Since your son is 31 and past the age of dependency then he would need to apply as investor on his own and that would also require him to pay into CCSS under his own name and account. The category that does not require Caja CSSS is Digital Nomad but that one is an extended visa category and not residency per se.

Plantation? Who the hell names a place a plantation?
@CostaRicaLawАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment! The term 'Plantation' in Costa Rica does not carry the same historical or cultural significance as it does in other parts of the world such as the United State. In Costa Rica, it is often used to refer to agricultural estates, particularity coffee plantations. The entire region of Naranjo has been associated with coffee for a decades. In the country in addition to coffee we also have plantaciones de banano, macadamia, piña and many others and is not associated with the same connotations. Again thanks for watching and commenting.
