Now this is the proper recipe, making it with gelatine isn't Turkish delight at all, just gummy sweets with totally the wrong texture. It's a bit of a pain to cook out the corn starch because it has to be stirred constantly to prevent it burning on the bottom of the pan but well worth it. My favourite flavourings are pistachio nuts or mango syrup or pineapple syrup. One way to create really nice natural flavours is to substitute some of the sugar and water for a fruit juice, that is how the fruit flavours are done traditionally.

the weird thing is in my area the only pearl onions they sell is for growing not cooking i guess their making us do the extra steps to save money lol thanks for the recipe my dad loves pickled onions and good recipes are hard to find

I forget to grab the scissors for jobs such as this. Thank you. The gristle should removed shouldn't it but why remove the fat? There's so much good therein. I do remove and freeze a more than half of the fat off beef kidney. After several I'll render it for suet. Drizzle that on oven cooked home fries. Wow! Fries with liver and kidneys sounds great about now. Soft scramble a coupe of eggs and we'll call it breakfast.
